I crashed my 1st Saturn SC1 1997 Coupe in a 90° degree turn near some high school while going to a varsity match (I used to ref HS b-ball games) in the rain cause I thought I could drift and/or do a pendulum-swing like the Drift King Tsuchiya ~ after "studying" the Drift Bible ~ in an under-powered overweight FF vehicle going 25 mph into a fire hydrant to the laughing stock of a neighborhood of old ladies laugh.gif crying2.gif derp.gif ~

My experience was similar: I totaled my 1st Nissan Quest 1999 minivan in a 90 degree turn near my high school while going to my high school in the rain cause I had cut in front of a truck within a few yards from the intersection and didn't want to slow down too much, which would be annoying for him. I crashed into the pole of a street light in what was just some unexciting understeering and my drifting dreams died that day along with the minivan.

Perhaps the most exciting crash was when I was heading home at night on the tollway. There was a bumper in the middle of the road which I didn't see until I was again within a few yards from it. I actually swerved around it, and managed to drift a little. Things were under control, except I actually pulled off an inertial drift, which I wasn't expecting. The car swung around the other way, and I didn't put enough into compensating for it, so I slammed sideways into the side of the tollway. Someone behind me actually pulled up, stopped, gave me a compliment on what I did, and then drove off. Unfortunately, nobody took responsibility for the bumper in the middle of the road, and according to the law, it's my fault, so I had to bite the bullet and pay the monies to repair the car. That was the only time in my life I drifted, and it ended badly.

Then, there was one time that I just rear-ended someone in heavy traffic. I guess I can't blame Initial D for that one.

Reignited my interest in cars for sure. Also really makes me want to go to the Touge just to see them driving up and down orderly :-)

Made me appreciate cars more (and their physics), as well as influencing their music as one of my all time favorites (even the new movie music), taught me a bit of Japanese driving laws in an entertaining way, gave a resurgence in diecast car interest, to name a few.

Their music is what I listen to when I go to places (not if I wanna drive, though, as often!), and the mass variety of songs used in the anime make the whole "rival of the saga" much more replayable in value compared to, say, Sailor Moon or Pokemon, where the exact same songs are used every episode (ID does this too, but is tolerable in comparison). The cast is one of my favorites in anime as well, and it's a cool refresher from the regular cast where there's the annoying girl sidekick or at least the high-pitched character who bosses the protagonist around. A mostly male core cast seems to fare well for me, in short.

I could go on talking about it, but these are only a few examples of the franchise's influence.

To be completely honest. Initial D made it damn near impossible to buy a 1986 Corolla without paying out of your ass LOL

But before when I first began to watch it, I have to admit it did help the bite from the car bug spread it's venom faster. It wasn't the start of the automotive addiction for me, but it was a big help. It made me appreciate driving more than just a fast car. It was always obvious a car could only do so much, but the true skill was always dependent on the driver.

So true. I think those 25 year old cars are so expensive and sought after purely because of Initial D's influence.

Due to Initial D, my car value perspective got totally flipped upside down. Before Initial D, I didn't particularly care for GTRs, RX-7s, Lan Evos, Imprezas, and definitely not Corollas (and hatchbacks on top of that). For me, it was Dodge Viper or the usual supercars (Ferraris and Lamborghinis), and maybe Toyota Supra.

Looking on the bright side, a GTR or RX-7 is a whole lot less expensive than a Ferrari or Lamborghini, so because of Initial D, it is now cheaper for me to be happy?

That leaves me more money and time to be happier with other things?

So... it's a good thing. Yup.

The import will not only be cheaper to purchase, but also cheaper to maintain and probably a lot more reliable hahaha
