| if this is true then it flips my logic..i always thought of him as a pop singer pretty boy...if he really is goin to play takumi...then it will change my whole view of him. jays cool though i enjoy his music alot |

| it is said that the sho will be shown/made next year. they may be just talking cock(means trash talking in my local language) but if it does come out, i'm gonna watch it. one line from the article read:'based on a popular japanese comic, it features fast car like Jaguars.' UGHHHH! Jaguars?! I thought it'was Honda, Mazda and Nissan... sheesh! |

| Interesting...... I have heard of Jay Chou before. Still a popular C-pop singer eh? I don't know how he would fit in the role of Takumi, assuming that the live action movie is going to be made in the next year or so. Either way, we'll see how it turns out then. Obviously, they would probably get a stunt driver or extra to do most of the drifting sequences, providing that they value Jay's life, lol.  On-screen it may seem he is driving, probably going to do some technical elements behind it. Meh..... I dunno. |

This dream will finally come true next year. This is because in March of next year, Tsui Hark will start shooting the movie version of ¡°Initial D¡±. The male lead, Takumi Fujiwara, will be played by Jay. The role of Takumi¡¯s opponent, Ryosuke Takahashi, will be filled by Edison Chen. Quite a number of film companies have had their eye on the Taiwan popular artist, Jay, for quite a while now. They all want to successfully invite him to act in a debut role. It¡¯s a pity that they have not been successful. According to reliable sources in Taiwan, recently Jay was finally moved by the sincerity of the director of Media Asia Films Ltd., Lam Kin Ngok, and director Tsui Hark. He has promised to star in the new film ¡°Initial D¡±, which will start shooting in March of next year and his salary for this film will be $4,000,000 HKD. ¡°Initial D¡± is adapted from the Japanese manga with the same name. Due to the fact that that manga is highly popular in Hong Kong and Japan, therefore, there are quite a number of dedicated fans. And Tsui Hark is also one of these fans. About a year ago, the plans for doing the film adaptation had already begun. But they hadn¡¯t been able to find a suitable person for the role. Only until Tsui Hark noticed that Jay has a unique character did he decide that the male lead of Takumi Fujiwara must be played by him. Step on the gas pedal! Dedicated car lover, excellent skills Jay is a car lover himself. Usually he likes to drive his Jaguar sports car in place of walking. Whenever there are new cars on the market, he¡¯d go to the dealer to test-drive the new cars. Since Jay¡¯s driving skills are superb, the Taiwan paparazzi rarely can follow him. Surely, he will not be unfamiliar with the manga character of Takumi Fujiwara. Starring in ¡°Initial D¡± this time, Jay will certainly satisfy the craving for car-racing. Getting ahead! Costs too high, Media Asia takes over As for the other male lead in the manga, Ryosuke Takahashi, Media Asia would like Edison to play that role. The on-screen time of both male leads are fairly equal. As for the role of Takumi¡¯s girlfriend, Natsuki Mogi, they¡¯re planning on asking a Japanese or Korean actress to star in that role. In addition, Stephen Fung will play the role of another car-racer, Seiji Iwaki. A few years ago, Andy Lau¡¯s film company, Teamwork Motion Pictures Ltd., had wanted to start the filming for ¡°Initial D¡±. The male lead of Takumi Fujiwara was supposed to by played by Edison, with Andy playing the role of his father, Bunta Fujiwara. However, because the cost was too high for the film, in the end, the project had to be terminated. Thereafter, Media Asia Films Ltd. had an interest in that film and invited Tsui Hark to be the director. Currently, Tsui Hark is arranging the movie script and the stars for the roles are being reconsidered. The film, ¡°Initial D¡±, illustrates the story of the male lead, Takumi, who, starting from high school, was awoken early in the morning every day by his father -- Bunta, who is highly skilled in car-racing -- to drive and deliver tofu come wind or rain. Over time, Takumi¡¯s driving skills have been trained by his father, reaching an extraordinary level. Thereafter, Takumi even drove the Toyota AE 86 Trueno sports car to challenge car-racing experts, Ryosuke Takahashi, Seiji Iwaki, etc. Taking over! First be a guest star to satisfy a bit of craving for acting In ¡°Initial D¡±, there are plenty of exciting car-racing scenes. Tsui Hark had gone to Japan earlier to choose the filming sites. Other than actually filming car-racing scenes, there will also be special effects added to heighten the ¡°car-flying¡± effect. According to the costs calculated, the production of the film will be approximately $6,000,000 USD ($47,000,000 HKD). Besides Media Asia, there will also be a collaboration with a Japanese film company for the filming. Edison, who is currently in England for the shooting of a new film by China director, A Gan, said yesterday over a long-distance phone call, ¡°The company had informed me earlier that I will be starring in this film. I know that the film has two male leads and the on-screen time is about the same. But I¡¯m not sure which role I¡¯m playing. When I get back on the 12th (day after tomorrow), I¡¯ll find out from the company. Being able to star in a big production, I¡¯m already very happy. As for the role, it¡¯s up to the director to arrange! Actually, I¡¯ve never seen this anime. I¡¯ll have to wait till I get back before I can find some time to watch it.¡± This film, where Jay will star in a leading role, won¡¯t be in the theatres till next summer. But recently, he guest starred in the film ¡°Hidden Track¡± with Shawn Yue for a few scenes. Yesterday, he even specially came from Taiwan to Hong Kong to assist in the movie promotions. He arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport around 4:00p.m. There were 50 odd fans who went to greet him. Since there were only 5 security guards there, it led to some chaos. |

Are you talking about "Legend of Speed 2" w/ Ekin Cheng in it? Racing down Rainbow road or whatever in an Evo and a Subaru? That was out a few years ago, no Initial D base but a fun movie none the less. |

This is revealed in the manga. ***** SPOILER ALERT ****** You see in the manga, Mogi has a close friend (which the Anime left out  ). She's a bespectacled girl studying in the same school. Takumi later found out that she was the one who put in all the letters, but was not angry with her though, since what she said was the truth. Seems like only Takumi and this girl knows about Mogi's part time "job". This girl (sorry I dont remember her name) does not dislike Mogi, but didnt like Mogi getting close to Takumi. Mogi's sugar daddy ("papa") was in fact the girl's father  ***** END OF SPOILER ****** |

| I have to agree with .N.D's views. I always thought Edison was definetely more suited as Keisuke. And didn't they say BoA was going to be Mogi? On the top of my head, I think Nick Tse might suit for Ryosuke and Takumi can be me. Jay should stick to his mumbling. |

Aw that kinda sucks... Tsui Harks directing it... not much a fan of his movies . I think it would have been better if Andy Lau directed it. Andy Lau's movies are my favorites (stormriders, man called hero, etc). I think the actors are ok. Jay kinda does look like Takumi; although I would feel better if the film was made by Japanese with Japanese cast. BoA does kinda look like Mogi.  |

It doesnt look like a japanese newspaper to me. If you noticed, everything is written in chinese. Anyways ya its great to here some news about the movie. I cant beleive Jay Chou maybe Takumi. I hope the movie is just as great as the anime. There should be great cinematography to make the races amazing. o i forgot, thanks Yodums for posting that.  |

| the directer and producers are from HK, so i reckon the movie will be in cantonese, and like all other HK movies, they will have do a chinese dub. who's the guy acting as itsuke. i dont see him in the scanned pics. *edit* according to the article, one of the other actors will be: i reckon he will be keisuke |

| the movie is going to be a blockbuster release in 2005. if its 5th stage, takumi won't be working at the gas station anymore right? anyways, Singaporeans reading this can anyone get copies of i-weekly for the last 2 weeks? the issue where jolin tsai is on the cover, as i remember clearly there was a 1-page feature on the movie with the major cast members. |

I have to disagree with you. The scan1 pic you can cleary see that the 86 have foglights and itsukis 85 dont have them and I think you should see the difference between a Trueno and a Levin head lights design. and also at the right side of the 86 you can a Tofu sticker |

| I don't say much on this forum, but i think that this Initial D movie will be a dissapointment. The cars and the action(drift) could be good. I don't think the characters will be good. Maybe the characters are an attraction for female fans. I don't think nor Jay can play Takumi nor Edison can play Keisuke. I think they will ruine the original characters. The cast is horrible; they don't match. I hope atleast the cars and the action will be fantastic. Because that will be my whole point of watching Initial D Movie. Sorry for the bad English |

I don't think the cast is that bad. Jay Chou can pull off Takumi's personality. He's very quiet and humble. And I think really think Edison can pull off Keisuke's arrogant personality because Edison is like that in real life to the public. The only one thing Initial D was missing initially was freaking Hyori Lee. God, I can't believe they axed her for Anne Suzuki!! The directors aren't so bad but it would have been better if Tsui Hark continued the project. I'm sure he had a lot of things in mind because it was a planned project for years but they couldn't live up to his salary expectations, boo. |

| I don't think this movie will be horrible, just prolly not wut we will hope for after seeing the anime.I mean you can't really find the personality of Takumi in match it with someone in real life (it is possible, but could take a long time), and the directors are from the ones who created Infernal Affairs which is a very good movie in Hong Kong (if u watch it by reading the subs, could get confusing). The actors aren't that bad either, they act in movies so they aren't that newbish. BUt they are filming at the real locationns like on Mt. Akina. |

| Jay is playing Takumi and that is settled. They are like 2 weeks into filming and there was a rumour Jay would switch to Keisuke but it was a rumour and when it was asked to Alfa Music (Jay's company), they replied with it as a rumour or else they'd be freaking out because Jay is cramming a lot into his schedule as he's releasing an album on August 3rd and sets up a lot of time with companies he sponsers: One2Free, M-Zone, Panasonic, Pepsi and Metersbowne. Jay is probably the most popular artist in China right now. To go to like Thailand and get a lot of publicity means you're pretty damn popular. It scared him fans even know how to sing his songs when Thai and Mandarin are a completely different language. Did anyone watch Infernal Affairs? Do you reckon the character, Chapman To? He was part of the triads and was really dopey and stupid. He's the guy who said something along the lines of if he's staring, then he's a cop. Anyways, I think he might be playing Itsuki. Nerp. That was the initial director where he was plotting to have Andy Lau become Bunta and stuff then that got dropped. Earlier this year, they resurected it and he was once again the director till the company could not meet his salary expectations so now the director is Andrew Liu. He was the director of the Infernal Affairs series which had become one of the most likable movies in HK for awhile.. probably the best in so long. From what I believe this is how it looks like: Takumi - Jay Chou Keisuke - Edison Chen Ryosuke - Not sure Bunta - Anthony Wong Nakazato - Shawn Yue Mogi - Anne Suzuki I'm not sure about Jordan Chan or Chapman To. I'm guessing one of them is Itsuki (hopefully Chapman), and one is Ryosuke? I don't know, Jordan Chan as Ryosuke is kinda freaky. He's not a logical thinker, at all. |

I still think it's slightly different.. The Japanese never made their move and since the company thought it was such a big hit, they decided to buy the license from Japan itself. So hey, it's better than nothing, correct? Good point, I think Jordan Chan would make a good Shingo. | i think maybe two hachi-roku truenos in the sense that there is one before the modifications (trd engine, bucket seats, carbon fibre hood) signifying the beginning of initial d (around 1st stage) and one with the modifications (end of 2nd stage and so forth) ... but that really depends on how many stage(s) and mini storylines they are to include .. but then again they could always just make more movies to cover all the significant aspects btw .. anthony wong does look pretty convincing as Bunta in those pics! |

| basically what the press conference is saying is, the first guy, presumably the producer/director, he was talking about filming initial d. he was saying racing on touge is more fun than racing around on the streets. he also mentioned something that he wants to get the best out of the actors and the drift scenes. jay talked about how this is his first movie and he loved filming a lot, which gives him insipiration in making music. he ended by saying the taiwanese reporters/journalists have been chasing him around and thats how he practise. I think they do have a keisuke, check out the link on top and they have an actor for him. I think the actors for takumi and ryousuke don't really fit, maybe if they swithched them. coz it's going to seem like takumi is older than ryousuke. just an opinion though. |

But there was this car one that i saw that did suck. Thanks everyone for sharing all this information about the movie. Since I'm nowhere in Asia, I will be stuck waiting for it to come out on DVD.  Anyways, regarding the actors...crash72 is right, most are HK actors/singers....you forgot Edison Chen is a singer too. Wonder if they're going to end up having one of the actors sing the intro song or any other song in the movie? Not trying to scare anyone but come on, if you've watched enough Chinese movies/shows, you'll see that at least one of the actors almost always sings the intro/ending song. It'll be sad for me 'cos I've gotten used to listening to MOVE's songs. My only biggest fear is that the ending will suck big time. Why? It's 'cos I've been watching Chinese shows/movies since before I could talk but I have yet to see one with a good ending. They are either rushed or don't make any sense at all. |

Yuuichi (gas station manager) announces that there is a new girl starting work who really wanted a job and to earn money .. it is then revealed that this girl is Mogi (to Takumi's shock of course) basically its here that she works instead of at the hamburger place and she works there until the time she leave to go study in Tokyo |
