The car is perfectly ballanced and even supasses the MR2 in handling, arguably the best handling porsche ever till the Boxster came along. The only problem with this car is that it refuses to drift. It's more of a grip racer, the car grabs the inside of the apexes like glue with very little body roll. I've found that drifting in an MR is almost always detrimental, first of all, it is very very easy to spin an MR while trying to execute a drift. I have found that an otherwise extremely stable car can spin like a top if i try to pull such techniques. There are also many who argue that drifting actually kills the advantage that MRs are supposed to have, I've never really seen an NSX drift , there is probably a reason. What do you think about drifting in an MR? Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand) |

Mainly due to the fact it's a auto, and I need a transmission swap. So you have a Porche 914 eh? Mmm Nice car. Lucky bastard. What basically do I need in order to drift... LSD and Manual trans are the obvious ones, but what else should I invest in to get my car to drift? And, on topic, i've seen quite a few people in MR cars (namely MR2's... never really see others) drift. You'd be best to ask on a MR specific forum (e.g. a Porche 914 forum if you can find one, or even a MR2 forum... the MR2 forum I visit has frequent members asking how to drift.) My Dream car is a 911. One day I will have that car.... (and a SW20 ) |

The MR is actually a grip monster. Because of its midship you can be faster than any drift car in a corner. Mine will be tuned to be a grip monster. I believe Tsuchyia can drift with an NSX. | ||

MR cars are hard to drift because, the engine is placed over the rear wheels, meaning that under acceleration, more grip is sent to the rear wheels than in an FR car so, the MR will grip better under acceleration (and deceleration). but, once u lose traction on the rear tyres, and the ass comes out, you have the weight of the engine in teh rear of the car, which will make it easy for the car to completely spin, or at least take it into teh point of no return. this is why its hard to get an MR to start a slide, and then once it does start, its why its easy to lose it completely hope that helps you |

But all those hours (and tires) into the MR2 trying to drift and then I see what the FC can do. Now I'm debating on what car to get next...CRX isn't quite doing it for me after Mr. Two anymore. It's quite easy to break the backend loose in the MR2 just go into a turn and then as you are turning take you're foot off the gas abruptly...kiss you car goodbye. Oh well I hope my MR2 is in a much better place now...all my motor work now lives w/in the shell of a non-turbo MR2, well make that ex-non-turbo ) |
