some other info

QUOTE
Funimation will redub the Initial D anime instead of using the adaptation that the previous licensee, Tokyopop, had produced earlier. (Tokyopop had also licensed the original manga by Shūichi Shigeno.) Funimation has acquired Initial D: First Stage, Second Stage, Extra Stage, Third Stage, and Fourth Stage. Funimation will retain the original, uncut music for its soundtrack.

Now that is some good news... Let's hope that it's a decent dub...

All is right and good with the world now that a decent dub company will be taking over the series from the beginning. smile.gif

Guesses on who voices what character? I'm hoping we don't hear Ed Elric as Takumi. tongue.gif

I think it's a little too early for them to tell us anything about the cast... I am just glad they got the rights to use the original music in both dub and sub versions.

I meant it more as speculation. I wasn't asking for the cast list. biggrin.gif

The guy that played Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist would be PERFECT for Bunta.

Honestly, I thought the Tokyopop Bunta wasn't so bad, save for some bad acting. The actual voice was pretty damn fitting.

This post made me wonder if any of Funimation's voice actors on FMA worked on Initial D... seems so far none have... ><

Although I haven't heard the guy voicing Scar from FMA before I really enjoyed his work as the main character in Disgaea 3.

The wonderful thing is that Funimation has quite a few connections. There are a few instances in which the talented Johnny Yong Bosch (Vash the Stampede) was part of a FUNimation production. They could always use him again for one of the many many many many male roles in Initial D.

They also have talent like Eric Vale (Trunks) and Jerry Jewell (Rin Tsuchimi, Shinichi Kudo). I can guarantee you Colleen Clinkenbeard (Riza Hawkeye) will have a part in Initial D. Chris Sabat (Piccolo, Vegeta, etc etc etc) will probably have a role or two as well considering his impressive vocal range.

Here is my speculative cast list of the major characters.

Takumi - Jerry Jewell
Bunta - Dameon Clarke
Natsuki - Brittney Karbowski
Itsuki - Sonny Strait
Iketani - Sean Schemmel
Kenji - Kyle Hebert
Keisuke - Johnny Yong Bosch
Ryosuke - John Burgmeier
Nakazato - Vic Mignogna
Shinji - Eric Vale
Mako - Colleen Clinkenbeard
Sayuki - Laura Bailey

I think those would fit the original seiyuus quite nicely.

I'm very well versed in the who's who of FUNimation voice actors since I primarily have a ton of their productions. I listen to the Japanese voice in Initial D and I match it to whoever sounds closest.

LOL, I know some people don't like him. Including me. Mainly it's his ridiculous "TCHAAAH"s and "HHUUGHGHAAAAA"s that get to me.

Wouldn't it be funny if he ended up voicing Takumi instead? ><

I was actually thinking Laura Bailey would be a good Natsuki. Or she could be Kyoko.

JYB is good at playing cynical, angry characters. They could take Ichigo and drop the pitch a bit, and it'd sound pretty good.

Minus the yelling, of course.

I wonder who would VA the other characters, such as

Saori (Itsuki's first girlfriend)
Kazumi Akiyama
Joushima Toshiya
Kouzou Hoshino
Wataru Akiyama
Masashi (From the mechanics shop)
Ken Kogashiwa
Kai Kogashiwa

Among others...

Just got Third Stage from Wal-Mart for $10. Voice acting is a little better than what TokyoPop did, and Funimation kept the original soundtrack. DVD also includes a trailer for Fourth Stage. The animation and production visuals are the best I've seen, extremely clean. They kept the translation very close to the original message, intent, and meaning.

Unfortunately, the voice actors try too hard to pronounce the names of both racers and mountains, so it sounds like mangled Japanese.

The only voice I'm disappointed with is Yuichi's, the gas station owner. He sounds too young, compared to his looks. I prefer TokyoPop's voice actor for him.
