well im getting a 1996 camry for free with 175k miles, but im not complaining since i just need a bucket to get me from point a to point b and it doesn't have that terrible gas mileage either, i think it has leather seats, but what are some things i can do mechanically and how can i clean up the leather and things like that?

Who cares what it looks like? Taking care of leather is time consuming and expensive.

It's a free car, drive it into the ground and then part out what you can!

Listen to this man, and don't go the same route we did when we had Leather-clad seats. >_<

And it's also not a best choice during a season where everywhere feels like an oven.

Change the oil, make sure the radiators got coolant, make sure all your lights work and then drive it like you stole it

Congrads on the wheels.

You could just use a basic leather cleaner to get it looking pretty neat. There will also be a cleaning sealant that will keep it looking shiny for a long time. Interestingly enough i hate leather where i live it gets rather hot!

As the others said, water in the radiator (coolant too), oil in the motor, fuel in the tank and drive it hard!

I would say to check all of the vital fluids. Unless you know if it was recently done, change the oil with the proper type. If you can't be bothered to do that, just make sure that it's not completely black and that there is enough in there. Same with the coolant, make sure there's enough and that it's the right color. If you run bad coolant or oil, you risk damaging your engine, as I have illustrated below.

Other than fluids and general common-sense checks, you should be good to go.

By the time I finished writing this, I noticed that it's been a few months. I'm curious, how is it running?

Is that sarcasm? Please be so. I don't think he would want to try drifting in a fwd. He might crash!

PM me if you want to learn how to maintain the interior/exterior of the car.

Cmspaz: Not everyone wants to drive a car that looks like a turd on wheels. Hell, I dont. Even if it is a camry.

It's not about what you want to do, it's what you have to do. And sometimes, you have to grin and bear it.

I don't have to grin a bear it when i can do something about it. Keeping a car clean is common sense unless one likes to ride in a rolling trashcan.

This is something I have to agree with. I've always taken care of how my cars look, no matter how much of a shitbox it might have been. wink2.gif

I agree with most of the above posts. I have a tendency to get attached and want to "restore" my DD's. Don't follow in my foot steps. It has cost me lots of cash over the years. Congrats on the new car!!!
