I want to take a precision driving course to learn as much about circuit racing as I can. Have any of you guys out there taken any classes on driving yet? Besides the old 16 yr old driving course biggrin.gif If so, give me some feed back . . . .I'd love to know more about it.

ah, I'm not worried about the whole money thing. I'm in the navy right now that pays 100% tuition assistance while I'm active duty biggrin.gif So . . . I can probably get that class for free. If I don't decide to take it while I'm in the navy, I have the GI Bill (I'm not sure how familiar you are with the military), so I'm in entitled to $50,000 worth of college, paid for in part by the navy. I'm checking out places in the Virginia area (where I'll be stationed next) to try to find a class on precision driving. Let me know if you have any info in that particular area. Thanks for the feedback.

well it's not a simple like one course thing...it's a succession of courses.

first you have to take a basic driving course...usually consisting of 2 or more classes of full day instruction. then a more advanced course usually 2 or more courses possibly on a closed circuit of instruction and whatever. and then a 3rd class that's based strictly on racing.

that's how the BMW Club of BC works anyways. it's around $150-250 per class. and you can't go to the next stage without passing the one before.

this is using your own car(which is best) but some provide cars. I know BMW canada provides courses with their own fleet of cars...330ci for lower 1st set of classes and M3 for the higher level classes. but they start at around $400

these things are usually one full day, fully catered.

I haven't taken the courses before but I've been researching a lot lately because I plan to take these courses and do some auto-X driving when I'm older.

wow, that's pretty cool. I would first have to get my car that I want first. .. maybe 240sx. . ah. . can't make up my mind! wacko.gif But. . . I think that's what I'm going to get. So, we'll see. Yea, I remember hearing about how it's a multiple of courses. I'm sure you couldn't learn to be an auto cross drive in only a day anyways. . .so that would only make sense. I hope I can find one in my area though, that would really give me a jump start in the racing ring if I get lucky with a school in my area. Thanks for the feedback!

Your in the NAVY? Well guess what shipmate, you better rethink about saving up money for those courses. You get no nationally credited credits for those classes. The MGIB... doesn't cover it either. Tuition assistance, is only 80%... the talks for it going up to 100%, have been confirmed. But the raise in TA has been acted upon YET.

hey, Ryosuke. I thought that they already moved the TA up to 100%. At least that's the word that I'm hearing around here. Maybe they haven't moved it up yet. But I don't see why they wouldn't give me money to take the driving course. I thought that the bill said that they will pay for any certification, license, or operator training. . . . ? Eh . .. I dunno. What, are you in the navy too?

Jayson, what kind of fees did you have to pay and how in dept is the school?

around the Toronto area, and i'm sure this applies to most larger urban areas, weekend performance schools are available , best way to find out is through local auto X or rally clubs. week end courses is drifting ( skid control and performance driving ) should be @ $300 CAD.

I know your looking at racing "schools" but also, look into going to eithor autocrosses, or the driving classes they sometimes have. I have been autocrossing since i was 13, and the first time I went on a real race course I caught everyone in the turns but lost on the straits(I was only allowed by my dad to stay in 3rd, topping out at 98mph). It helps alot, and is alot less expensive(even though you said you werent worried about cost)

Yes I'm in the Navy. For the military to cover it... it has to be nationally recognized or credited. What BS excuse can you possibly give for them to cover this?

easy, if you are in a war, and your ship has to dock, and then you have to beat the enemy in a race around a track or they will kill you!

Dont laugh, it could happen, so you had best be prepared and do this course!

I say Skip Barber TOO!!! Best school hands down. You get to drive Dodge Formula cars which are badass at handeling but are extremely unforgiving so if you lose it...you LOSE IT!!! Hehe. Skip is no doubt in my mind the top school in the nation. I'd go to anyone of the school in the nation...EXCEPT Laguna Seca...anyone who plays Gran Turismo 3 prolly understands why. mad.gif
