The shifter in Midnight Maximum Tune 3 is very similar to that of a real car, where in which you have one slot for each gear. This means that you may jump gears. Unlike the sequential shift in Initial D where shifting is only done by moving the shift stick UP and DOWN.

To highlight a car, simply select the desired manufacturer with the steering wheel, then turn the steering wheel to the desired car. But you'd have to first have the gear at Neutral before entering the shift codes. Otherwise it won't work.
