How exactly does the boost work in this game? Does it just make the car in second place accelerate faster or what? Also, do you get more of a boost the further back you are, or is the distance irrelevant? I've been seeing a lot of people sitting back at the starting line for a few seconds, and it made me start to wonder how exactly it works. |

Okay, so online the Boost only works if you are in 2nd place. I don't think it really matters how far you are because there are certain sections in each course that boosts you, like for example when you get to the bridge going uphill on Tsukuba. That area in Tsukuba is where you obtain boost if you are in 2nd place; in other courses it is in different places, but I don't know if all of them have it, since I only play mostly on Tsukuba. As for people sitting back at the starting line; maybe they are giving you a head start or it is their connection that is doing that. This post has been edited by k0oanz on Apr 22 2011, 11:22 AM | ||

More NEGATIVE than a black hole Group: ADMINISTRATOR Posts: 19,345 Member No.: 12,263 Joined: Sep 12th 2005 Location: Update Profile | It turns on rubberband physics. The trailing car will gain a boost in acceleration, tied to the distance between the cars, sufficient enough to pass the lead car. If the trailing car is 1000m behind, it will receive and enormous boost in acceleration, whereas if it's only about 10m behind, the boost will not be very much, but will be enough that it can pass if it's not blocked. Personally, I think boost is meant for new players and should be switched off for people that are experienced at the game. Back when I was a regular at the local IDASv2 machines, our tournaments were always "boost off" matches, because it was too easy to exploit the system if you knew how boost worked. |
