Pretty crazy stuff. I'm not sure what to make of this.

This is my argument. Fapping on loli having sex in a manga is nothing against fapping to real young girls. Those are only DRAWN pictures NOT photographied pictures.

Goddamn, make a DIFFERENCE between REAL and NOT REAL.

The sentence is pure BS. Protect minors my ass... this does not do anything to real kids. I think everyone by now sees my point of view by now.

Also, that is also my p-o-v in real life

I think it has less to do with protecting minors than it does protecting those in desperate need for a social life...

What a bunch of bullshit. They're just drawings, regardless of what the courts think. He was in no possession of any real CP, and he's just a collector. There's absolutely no danger to kids in this situation, but of course everything is illegal in America. I could draw a stick figure and say it's a naked little girl, and get arrested for it. It's all completely out of hand.

You're talking about a depiction of children having sex, and defending that it is perfectly okay because it isn't real. So I guess this means it's cool to sell this in bookstores because it's make believe and certain depraved people totally won't get perverted ideas from it.

See, this is why I only keep my porn in digital form and always have a large magnet within reach from my external hard drive. Oh wait, have I said too much?

To me this isn't an issue until - or rather IF - he gets convicted and sent to jail - especially if it involves a "sex offender" tag.
Seriously, there are more asshats out there who would actually believe what's happening to him is fair than I'd like to know. It's incredibly stupid considering all the other shit out there (imagine if he was bringing in guro...!) so while it's frustrating indeed to see, I won't be outraged until he gets locked up or something long-term.

2011 Edit:
Reading through this thread again, I'd rather not bump it, so I'll leave this edit here, in case someone bumps it in the future. I'm very disappointed in those who say that anyone who reads loli material doesn't have a life. That doesn't have anything to do with whether you have a life or not. Or at least, it doesn't have to.
And I'm also disappointed in those who look down on people who are into that sort of thing. 99.9% of them don't have an attraction to real children... in fact, they mostly hate them (it's why we have terms like 3DPD, for crying out loud.) There are some people here on this forum for whom lolis are fine too. I won't name them, in case they don't want to be named for some reason, but just know that they're veterans and (mostly) respected members who you likely already know.

So after reading that, you probably think I'm biased, or something, because I must be a lolicon, right? Get ready to have your mind blown, because I'm not (generally.) It's called common f**king sense.

I can really see where you're coming from with that and I even agree with you.

I still just think it's shitty that he got arrested over some f**kin doujin.

I hate America so damn much.

I mean seriously. HEY YEAH LET'S SEND THIS INNOCENT MAN TO JAIL FOR 15 YEARS BECAUSE HE LIKED TO SPANK IT TO COMIC BOOKS WITH LITTLE GIRLS IN THEM

They could be doing something better with their f**king time like getting real criminals.

This somewhat reminds me of the popular TV show To Catch A Predator. The host in the show claim all of the men are arrested but did they really get put in jail ? Majority of them got out because the show used decoys who are older than 18 years old. And thus, no actual crime was committed. (Where are the minors ? Yup, fictional, make-believe.) The police were arresting the men for their intention only. And that, when brought to court, can be interpret very differently.

Same deal here, some guys reading comics book with depictions of young children engaging in sex acts. Are comic illustrations real minors ? No. Police arrest him for his intention, but it is very unlikely he will get throw in jail once this thing hits trial.

Just another thing they waste my tax on.

I won't comment on the guy since the article doesn't go into details, but simply having a job is not enough to qualify as "having a life."

I'd say that the person would have to be a functioning member of society. If someone works as a . . . say . . . a convenience store clerk and then goes home just to play video games all night with no saving or any long-term goals whatsoever, then I wouldn't say that he/she "has a life." Pretty vague, generic example, but I think I've made my point. If the guy was a functioning member of society (like I said, the article doesn't really go into detail so it's kinda hard to make a judgment on that) and liked to fap to loli manga at home, then one could make the argument that he "had a life." If he was just working a minimum wage job that anyone could do without any real education or training and practically lived for his porn, then that's a different situation.

This is where I think it gets tricky. Whether it's photographs or drawings, it's still depictions of children doing sex acts. I honestly cannot argue for that in any form.

It's still in effigy, in the likeness or image of a person...It doesn't matter whether it actually is real or not; The fact that it mirrors something in real life is disgusting enough...

Take it this way; Draw a family member doing lewd sexual acts, or crop a family member's head on top of someone in a porn picture, and say that it's only a drawing or that it never actually happened, or whatever...Just the image, the depiction of that is enough; It can't be justified, and I'm sure they probably wouldn't want to justify it when it's put into the context of personal association...

It's wrong

Why people are even attracted to child porn in the first place is beyond me. There are members right here on IDW that read disgusting shit like that. Our borders have been compromised.

Even if these idiots aren't being charged with anything, society now knows who the sick f**ks in their neighborhoods are. I think that's more than enough.

Assuming you're saying anyone with loli manga in their possession does not have a social life, you're saying that arresting said person is protecting them? I don't think so.

Anyway, this is rather sad. That's all I can really say. I read the PROTECT act from Cornell law back when it was posted on Hongfire. I figured it was a matter of time before it was used like this, considering the wording explicitly says that it doesn't matter whether the 'victim' of an image depicting child pornography exists or not. Even if it's a drawing from the imagination, it's still considered illegal. So yeah.

Ah well. Downloading and copying music is illegal, too. That's my stance. tongue.gif

I don't know what to make out of this. Part of me is saying all this is just lines on a piece of paper, yet another part of me understands that this sort of material is both disturbing and wrong at the same time.

Should this person be arrested? I don't think so, but I would put him on a watchlist of some sort to keep an eye on him as to whether he will act out on his pedophilic urges.
