I've been driving for a couple of years and I'm positive that you guys have been driving longer than me, but there are a ton of things that bug the ever living daylights out of me... I use driving as a form of stress relief because I get to go around and see new places while listening to my music. There are times though where a good drive goes bad because of an idiot. Now I'm just wondering if anyone else shares the same pet peeves as I do:

People driving too close to me
    People going 40mph in a 60mph zone
Those who do not use their turn signals
Drivers that think it's ok to cut in front of someone for no reason
    People who brake too late
    Rubber neckers
People who turn right but refuse to move closer to the curb to compete their turn thus talking up the entire street
Those who slow down for no apparent reason
People who leave football field wide gaps between them and the car in front while driving on the freeway
People who use cell phones while driving and are stupid obvious about it
Those at red lights who do not make room for me to squeeze into the turn lane even though there is space for them to move up and let me pass
    Stupid ricers
Slammed cars that need to go over speed bumps diagonally because they are so low
Raised trucks that conveniently shine their headlights right into my eyes
Idiots that constantly use high beams for no reason
Unnatural modifications to cars that make them look hella ugly
    Loud cars
    Smelly exhaust
Loud and disgusting music that shouldn't exist pouring out of random vehicles
Motorcycles that come up out of nowhere during traffic jams and lane split thus coming dangerously close to knocking your sideview mirrors off
Drivers who can't see past their steering wheel (small people driving big cars)
Those that wear driving gloves and visors that obstruct any form of peripheral vision because they don't want to get drivers tans
    Those who perform rolling stops

That's all I can think of right now. Feel free to add what makes you mad. It probably makes me mad too. smile.gif

I don't have much of a choice in the lowered car department.
I'd like to go higher, but short of pre-load, I'm at the highest I can go. It doesn't help my front bumper has a ridiculous air dam built into it.

My pet peeve? Poorly modified lifted trucks and the people who drive them like sports cars. There's seriously nothing more dangerous on the road.

If you're gonna lift your truck or SUV for off-road, do it properly. Actual suspension modifications and brakes please. There's a certain height you can lift your vehicle where if i'll notice your diff height is still a foot off the ground; you're being moved to the retard bin.

Proper suspension and proper brakes with some actual ground clearance? Only then do you own an actual performance vehicle.

People who leave football field wide gaps between them and the car in front while driving on the freeway

Disagree with this. People drive stick you know.
Not to mention, by being close, you're only simulating congestion.
If the freeway allows for one person to drive at the same speed (speed limit and over only) as the person ahead of them, but still leave over 2 car lengths, then the freeway is free to move and shouldn't be considered congested.

Why do I make this out to be a big deal? LA traffic is most prone to stating in 3 ways, could be a mixture of these, just takes one of them halt the entire road.
1. an accident
2. rubbernecking
3. tailgaters

Why tailgaters? No one is perfect, and brakes lights don't have a gradient as to how hard they're being pressed. When you leave a car length or less between the car in front of you and you're going over 70mph, the response to brake lights is always going to be an over response. It has to be.

Unless you brake at the same exact time, you have less than 10 feet to make up a potential 2-10 MPH difference. So when you have a string of people that follow a length or less from each other and braking occurs, you get a progressive amount of slow down in a chain until someone ends up going way under the speed limit, depending on how bad the initial braking was of course.

The only person keeping his lane moving is the guy who chose to stay far away and doesn't have to hit his brakes for another 30+ feet.

Point is, if the freeway is freely moving, there's actually no point to packing so tightly, you're actually simulating congestion by doing so. You can still drive at the same speed (or faster) than the car in front of you so the difference in time is negligible, and because you're moving, your 'footprint' in congestion is not as high as you think. Especially in LA where the population will congest the freeways during rush hour regardless, only then does packing make sense, you're forced to do it anyway since the freeway wont move for miles.

Out of rush hour? Traffic in LA is always caused by stupid reasons, and more often than not, some guy cutting someone off which leads to a braking train, which in turn creates the opportunity for the aforementioned 3 ways to la traffic to boil over and make a mess.

I have one pet peeve that rules out ALL pet peeves imo.

Driving in Los Angeles with low profile tires and in traffic

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Dec 8 2015, 08:24 PM
I'm speaking in terms of me living in the middle of nowhere. There is very little traffic in my area and if you go out late enough, there are close to no cars on the road. My pet peeve is when there are literally no cars on the freeway and a person is going 60mph in the fast lane. And what bothers me even more is when they don't move over.

When I find myself being the person going slower in the fast lane while a car is approaching me on an empty freeway, I have enough goodness in my heart to move over and let the faster guy pass me.

a car with lots of sticker brands of modifications that are not installed in his car
if you are driving, a dude will drive past you and post on you tube that he smoked a Porsche/gtr
when my wife wants to talk on the phone even if I am driving. she will tell me "oh this will take a minute" but her plan is to talk to me till I arrive in our driveway

Don't be mad at the person making space, be mad at the guy driving under the speed limit lol

One of my friends had a drink and when he finished with it he dumped it in the glove box. Also he keeps asking people to taxi him. Fuck his shit never letting him in my car again I want to save on gas by having 60kg less of a bag of meat.

If bikes lane splitting is an issue, move out of CA. It's still not entirely legal there, merely allowed due to existing traffic problems.

Every other state explicitly makes lane splitting / filtering illegal.

hahaha I am sure if it were a pretty girl, your attitude would do a 180 degree turn .

another pet peeve of mine is passengers who are ridding for free but would like to plug in his/her ipod to your radio to play her music.

If it were gun's and roses, aerosmith or eurobeat , then it is ok. but if "I just met you, this is crazy.. here is my number.. call me maybe" arggghhh!!! then it is on repeat !!

about lane splitting on motorcycles, why do you guys hate it? I understand if the rider hits your car but if he did not hit you, why are you mad? is it because you feel he cheated on you by not falling in line?

The hell it would. You fuckin' spill a drink in my car and I'm gonna get pissed no matter what gender you are.

Pet peeves...hm.

People who drive fast cars slow (like people who are driving a Mercedes coupe and brake under the speed limit to take a freeway offramp).

People who don't use turn signals.

People who rush to cut me off then slow down to slower than I was already going.

People who drive massive vehicles but cannot maneuver/park them.

People who drive big trucks with misaligned headlights.

S'about it I think.

True. I only learned of this when I moved to Washington state. CA is only "legal" because there is nothing in the handbook saying it is illegal.

Mine is probably the lifted trucks who blind me in my mirrors with LED lights.

But for a new one... Oregon drivers. Either 5-10 under the speed limit, or speeding and deciding to tailgate me as if in a rush.

People who drive massive vehicles but cannot maneuver/park them.

Suddenly I am reminded of that time you took the parking spot of some woman who was doing a 13 point turn to get her SUV in rear first.

Aside from turn signals, I'm not sure if I'm in the wrong but: When I make a dual left turn in the outside lane for the turn, and person on the inside proceed to go wide and always come close to my car. And then proceeds to honk at me for existing and being able to make my boat turn faster than they could on the inside without breaking my line.

Or the people who think they are fucking entitled to the entirety of the road no matter what. Been honked at by a G35 who was rolling down the parking lot as I was carefully rolling out. They kinda just increased their honking pace instead of slowing down. Legit they saw me backing out 40 ft away and were going at their horn.
Same thing with a guy who was: A. Backing out of his parking space, B. facing a stop sign before going either direction, C. not moving forwards at all. All while I was rolling in from the main road and without a stop sign telling me to complete stop. Honked like mad at me, because he couldn't launch from his parking spot and roll pass the stop sign without caring. rolleyes.gif

Yes! Makes me happy that I have such a maneuverable minitruck.

New one that I just remembered happen today. Left turn turn signals that don't turn green and skip me for like 3 revolutions because I am either too light to set off their sensor or the sensor is just messed up.

Hahaha, when I took a straight-on parking spot in the Maverick because for all intents and purposes it looked like the Mercedes-Benz SUV was ignoring the spot because there was no conceivable way for it to get to that spot by turning? I loved that.

"Didn't you see we were parking there?"

"No."

"Well we were."

"If you say so. You drove right past it on the right."

"How did you think we were going to park in that spot if we didn't drive past!?"

"Exactly. I didn't think you were going to because that's an impossible turn."

Of course then you had him standing outside my car like a macho man while his barely-speaks-English wife shouts improperly-articulated curses at me with their child in the car, and me just chilling in my 3000-pound death-machine waiting for them to leave...ah, good times, good times.

Yeah, let's add parking lot fucktards to the list. It only really bugs me at school though, like when someone gets to their car, gets in, then just sits and chills for like ten minutes before leaving. Like, hello, there are tons of people who need to park. If you're leaving, get in your damn car and leave! If you're not leaving, then signal it!

I think her SUV was more maneuverable than my boat of a car, and I would of done the park job in one swoop. Two tries, max (in my car).

I guess the next one would be people forcing a merge on the highway during traffic by shoving their whole front end into a small gap, without signalling, and then proceeding to go super slow (with other cars merging in front of them) after merging in. Like, could you please just stay in your slow lane instead of being hella in my face so early in the morning? facepalm.gif

Hrmm... I see a good number of people saying people that don't use their turn signals. I used to fly under the same flag, until one day it just snapped on my forehead like a Sanwa Street Fighter button...

Pilots in JGTC cars don't use turn signals; why do I get mad at some scatterbrained chap for driving like he's the Baron Dog from Wacky Races? Ever since then I just assume every vehicle, no matter how innocent and/or pikachu~mobile it looks like, is out to collide their car against mine. Once I had that down, seeing people drive like they're on Half-Life 2 goofy-mode ice-physics... no blinkers, cutting, sudden breaking, honking, etc... didn't phase me anymore. Like getting mad at a Touhou Bullet Rain, or the raindrops for falling on my head~ If I'm fast and alert enough, I won't need to dodge their cars... I can simply just dance around them~ ♪

My favourite Initial D episode is 'Blind Attack', sure because Takumi's headlight switch-trick is pretty neat to watch, but mainly because I admire Tomo's character. Takumi got pissed off because he bumpernickled his boot right at the apex; but had it been the other way around, ie. Him bumping Tomoyuki's Honda-box... Tomo would have probably had the widest grin on his face... because that's what he's used to.

Once I got used to thinking that every motorist has the capacity of an LEO to rear-end your vehicle, regardless of care for this hypothetical criminal's life, simply to make your car come to a halting stop by any and all means possible... once I got used to the idea that any car and thing on the road can at any moment ram me to a tumbling~roll forget about my car, now it's my life in the air... not using turn signals didn't seem like much of a hazard.

To me, no one has turn signals, so I don't expect them... to me, everyone is out to kill you, intentionally or not, so I expect them.

I sometimes have crappy parking jobs so I don't know if I have a right to be mad at those people. I've found parking in my Subie to very easy because it's smaller than my Accord. I thus have a bigger margin for error. tongue.gif

I don't feel cheated when motorcycles lane split. I just get mad when they hit my car when I'm stopped in traffic them proceed to get mad at me because they are scrubs.

IT IS 2 IN THE MORNING AND I JUST WOKE UP TO THIS DISGUSTING THOUGHT. PEOPLE WITH WHITE HEADLIGHTS. THEY SHOULD NOT EXIST AND I HOPE THAT THEY ALL DIE BECAUSE OF FIERY POOPS. A 371O4826X MULTIPLIER IF THEY ARE MISALIGNED AND SHINE DIRECTLY INTO MY EYES. Don't those turds realize that brighter colored headlights don't make you look cooler? You just look like a tool with them and it shows me that you want to die when they aren't even aimed at the street.

Sorry for the caps, those people make me truly mad.

D'awww dun worry, Honda-sensei~ I hate those refrigerator-lights too... xD

I mean we could make an argument that they're using those Plutonium-Xenon lamps to make it look like an operating table, because they're surgical with their car on the corners, and their last name ends with an MD... online2long.gif

But nah... those mofos are just trying to look bling. They need to be put right-smack face on their bumper to teach them how annoying baseball stadium lights are when 5 feet away from your eyeballs! O__O!/

...it's 3:45 here & I got work at 10:00AM... if I let my head fall on my keyboard one more time... it's gonna look like I'm one of those guys that pay their cats to blog for them. derp.gif

I see most of this list every f'king day. Pisses me off.

Last night, a SUV driver in the left/passing lane wouldn't let me pass him (no one was in front of him). When he'd start falling behind the car that he was driving parallel with, I'd try to pass him on the right lane, but he'd speed up to keep parallel with the car. I managed to pass him when it became a three-lane road, but right before it became a single-lane, he cut everyone off using the shoulder and ran a red light. On the single-lane road, he started driving 30mph in a 45.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 9 2015, 10:59 AM
Epic rage bro! Had a '98 Mustang race up parallel to me last night on the way home from the movies and give me a "LET'S GO BRO!" look with his girlfriend in the passenger seat. When I politely declined by slowing for the right turn into KFC he gunned it and cut me off as closely as he could then kept on going down the road. Really showed me who was boss.

I was driving the family PT Cruiser at the time, with two passengers. derp.gif

WHICH REMINDS ME. I've got another one. This one super bugs me because of how often I end up driving up/down the state for long stretches of two-lane high-speed highway.

People who get mad because you passed them, speed up, cut you off, slow down, rinse and repeat. This is because when I'm going to be stuck on the 5 freeway for 6 hours...I'm using cruise control. I'm not being an asshole, I'm going the exact same speed now that I was several minutes ago when I passed you. If you slow down and I have to pull a maneuver to pass you and return to cruise, I'm gonna be mad because I already passed your slow ass earlier and now I'm wasting fuel. We're both gonna be here for several hours, why you gotta be a douche?

Posted by: xiao Dec 9 2015, 04:41 PM
I'm just gonna re-state again how much I dislike cops...

Not all cops... just the ones on the road, particularly the ones that park their fat Harley two-wheelers behind a billboard and/or underneath a highway ramp, specifically to catch you in the act of going 10 mph over 60.

I get it that it's their job to be A-holes and collect a couple of thousand bucks worth of tickets quota every month for the old Jabba the Hutt looking Serg' back at the station, but... for RPD sakes man, go fscking do something productive like stuff your face with donuts~

Also, cops are like speed bumps... except historically speaking a lot more retarded. sly.gif

Posted by: 207 Dec 9 2015, 06:04 PM
i got a few of the peeves mentioned here already but i have one that really pisses me off. people (currently on the highway) who give the gas before the merging point even starts in an attempt to pass you as you're trying to merge onto the highway.

i can understand if both cars are parallel when the merging lane is open that one has to give way. hopefully slow down to let me enter. its a matter of relative speeds and respect to others. however if they havent even gotten to the area where it opens up for merging and try to pass. seriously, you havent even entered a lane merging zone and you cant even bother to slow down or change lanes to let me enter safely censored2.gif nuts.gif at that point i usually hold the horn for a few seconds to show them my approval for that stunt.

Ah, on passengers. If you're riding along and are the only one who knows where we're going, I expect your directions to be precise and correct. If they are not, I will get very cross with you as it is clear I'm wasting my time.

As to Xiao's cop comment, here in California speed traps are illegal. A cop cannot hide and nail someone. They're perfectly in their right to be in plain sight and nail someone though. This is because California ruled that speed traps were revenue generators instead of safety enforcers. The more you know.

I hate driving in traffic only because the majority of my cars have been manual. I've only ever owned three automatics (out of 7 cars), and both my parents' cars are manuals as well. Only my siblings have automatics.

That being said... all my post-1970 cars have at least had cruise control, so at least long drives weren't a major pain. I've owned three 1970 cars though, and I've driven all three up and down the state before so take that as you will. laugh2.gif

Woah, the more you know indeed! I have two buddies o' mine that are lawyers... I have a coworker with a Roush Mustang GT. Accidentally ran into him a couple days ago. Even though I was right behind him and waving, he was too occupied with pulling up next to V6 Mustang's and trying to start a five-second traffic light drag. Mustang's are so goddamn common that in the one minute of being behind him, he had "taken" over three V6 Mustang's, none of which showed any interest in participating in the shenanigans.

Can't complain too much though: with him ahead of me, traffic moved at a reasonable pace.

Hm. I don't like it when people don't know how to merge onto the freeway.

I also don't like how it gets randomly slow around the areas where freeways merge or split. Only because those traffic jams usually have no right to exist. If you drive and pay attention to the signage, you should be able to quickly align yourself in the lane you need to be in and go on your merry way. None of this jerking yourself off in the car while you try to figure out which freeway to take garbage.

They know exactly which freeway to take. They just don't decide to be in the correct lane until the off ramp is 100 feet away.

A lot of LA traffic is caused by that and a lot of people do this.

I'm hopping on the left lane thing with an addendum:

You know those sections of a major freeway containing HOV/Carpool lanes? I can't remember if other states do this, but for some strange reason, Washington made double-white line HOV lanes - and you can't pass over them until it was a broken single white line. Nice if the car in front of you wasn't doing less than 52 MPH. And/or not holding up more than 4 cars behind them.

I think that passing in the carpool lane is against the law in CA. Don't quote me on that, but I have been taught that it is just bad etiquette to do that. You look like a douche and if you're by yourself in the car, its illegal.

In CA we designate carpool lanes with double yellow lines as a do not cross and a single white line as an entry point.

He was going 45 in a 55, I flashed to pass, and the fucker floored it up to 95. I called cops with his plate info and nothing came of it, despite the prospect of a juicy ticket. He disappeared Northbound as I was heading East to go into Story City.

And nine times out of ten it's a BMW.

So, story time.

Last winter I was heading a couple hours north to go ice racing in the VW. Ran into a buddy of mine on the way up, so I set my cruise to his and we just rolled together for a while. Eventually, we ran into an E90 328xi that would speed up when we tried to pass, and then eventually slowed back down, rinse and repeat. Eventually, this held us up as all three of us passed slower traffic, and after three or so instances I was fed up. As we started to make one more pass on her, she sped up again, and my buddy merged in behind her. Meanwhile, I had dropped two gears and was in the powerband ready.

The instant the lane was clear, I laid into the throttle and blew past her, signal on, and clipped across her nose. Set the cruise back where I had it and tried to go on my way. She wasn't having it though, and began to catch my slowly in the right hand lane. As I approached traffic and needed to get over, I saw her punch the gas, and I immediately did the same, noting at the same time that she's got a car full of people. Despite her jump on me, she gained no ground in closing the door, I shot over in front of her with plenty of room to spare and stayed in it. 100, 105, 110, DING, the winter tire warning popped up on the dash, but I wasn't going to let her get her way. 120, then 130, then 140, finally she started dropping back.

I slowed back down and set the cruise at a brisk 85 to ensure she didn't catch me again and finished the trip. But seriously, if you're not going to go a consistent speed, don't punish those who are. Being a piece of shit benefits no one.

Sounds like the Bimmer chick was trying to show off to her friends. I don't run into this very often in PA. I do remember an instant back when I was in college when I ran into a 2nd gen Eclipse going 50 in a 55. I moved to the passing lane and he immediately laid on the gas and passed me. Then he pulls infront of me and as we're passing a truck going 65, he slows back down to around 50. The guy was doing it to be a dick no doubt and get a response out of me. Since I was so close to my house at the time, I pretty much ignored it at that point.

I don't think we have a carpool lane here in west Texas but... I go over the ambulance lane and pass you if you're going slower than me on the freeway... or any other road for that matter. If there's a space where I can fit in and cut you off, I do it as fast as my crappy Nissan permits me.

People honk, yell, and flip me off cause they think I have road rage until... they see me winking at them with the biggest smile on my face as I cut off their vehicle, which probably has faster acceleration than my own POS.

A couple of months ago a guy with a 15 y/o kid on his new red Civic chased me all the way to the Barnes & Noble parking lot after I cut him off. He got off and almost broke my window cause of how mad he was. So I winked at him/smiled and reversed my way out of the parking lot before he threw rocks at me.

If someone cuts you off or has to use the ambulance lane to pass you... is cause you drive like my grandmother. I've had Camaros, Eclipses, Integras, Moostangs, and 1 DMC pass me while I'm going 95 on the freeway. There's nothing I can do about it but smile & say GG, and I actually like faster drivers than me. user posted image

Etiquette goes out the window when you got somewhere to be and you're 5 minutes late. Crash, boom, burn me up... just don't kill me is what I say to drivers faster than me. To the slower ones, I just throw 'em a smile and hope they won't follow me with a gun~ derp.gif

Biggest pet peeves? Hmm...

*Texting at a stop light, not paying attention to the signal

*Pulling out into the roadway without looking

*Improperly negotiating a turn (taking 2 lanes) onto a multi-lane highway, either resulting in nearly side-bashing me if I'm turning right and they're turning left, -or- trying to pass me on the right after negotiating a left turn as I'm trying to merge into the middle or right lane to get out of their way since I accelerate like a geezer

*Changing lanes without signaling, QUINTUPLEY if that's paired with not checking blind spot and driving right into my path of travel

*Randomly speeding up and slowing down outside of changing speed restrictions, road or traffic conditions

*Accelerating briskly to bunched up traffic then braking hard at the last moment

I hate driving in Plantation.

Posted by: Master0fMadness Oct 28 2016, 10:30 PM
Okay, got a new pet peeve to list off. People who don't let you in when it's your turn to merge and then act like YOU'RE the asshole when you give them no choice but to either hit you or back off. Had a run in with some fuckhead in a Kia Large SUV (dunno what it's called but it's nearly as big as a Chevrolet Tahoe) at a merge before a red light. Traffic was crawling and backed up and all I was trying to get to my fare before the rider cancels on me.

Now, I had to get over from one lane into another and had the right of way since I arrived a good 10-15 seconds before the car behind the car I was trying to get behind. (Also had my signal on the whole time) So when the light turns green, and the car in front of us finally starts moving and I start inching forward - as does the guy to the right of me. I'm like, does this guy seriously plan on cutting me off? I refuse to yield as we slowly progress forward. So our cars keep getting closer and closer, and by the time this jackass finally honks his horn, cuts the wheel to the left so he doesn't actually hit my car and backs off, I was already contemplating what to say to the cop and my insurance agent, lol

So now traffic's actually moving, the jerk gets behind me and, its night time mind you, just puts his brights on full blast, blinding the shit out of me. Oh, so it's my fault you wanted to cut the line, huh? Fucking asshole.

I swear, I'm going to buy one of those LED off road light bars you see on Jeeps and SUVs and mount it backwards just for the occasion that someone decides to burn my retinas, give them a taste of their own medicine by switching that bitch on and letting THEM see spots for a change.

I can NOT stand rubberneckers/nosy people. Just because someone got pulled over, there's an emergency vehicle, or there are cars stopped on the side of the road. It doesn't mean you have to drive 10+ mph under the speed limit just so you can get into everyone's business.

I also hate people who do not obey the passing lane rule.
