Night racing, Weather and Indy (IRL) all confirmed by Official Playstation Magazine http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=124196 |

It's nice to see EA lifted their f**king chokehold around the NASCAR franchise and some Sony goodness can coming oozing in. Mmm, Impala. <3 |
Posted by: BOZZ Jan 7 2010, 10:37 AM
COOLNESS! The more added stuff the better for GT5... |
Posted by: Solid Snake Jan 7 2010, 10:39 AM |
I hope it has a soundtrack as epic as the one they made for GT3. GT4's soundtrack was pretty fail, IMO. If GT4 had GT3's soundtrack, it would have been the most awesome GT game ever. I missed being able to do doughnuts and the easy mode drifting that was possible in GT3. The game soundtrack is almost as important as the gameplay itself, for me at least it is. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jan 7 2010, 01:43 PM |
Or better yet.. The ability to make a custom soundtrack. >_> |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jan 8 2010, 02:39 PM |
Just played sony's most recent GT5 build at CES, and there is still no damage (at least for the cars i drove). everything else is fine, and plays very nice on the logitech DFGT wheel. visuals were still kind of drab and dull; just like GT4, but in high def. |
Posted by: RalliKai Jan 9 2010, 10:37 AM
Hopefully this means the player can actually set the weather conditions and time of day on the track. That ability would make things interesting. |
Posted by: BlackSubaru Jan 9 2010, 09:21 PM |
why dont we already have full control of weather , time of day, and other factors of the sort already? these are all faults that every sim racing game has failed to include. yes even the mighty forza decided to skimp on it. |

ToCA World Touring Cars for the PSX. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jan 10 2010, 02:23 AM
PGR has controlable weather. edit: even tho its not a sim, i cant think of any other game that includes it regardless. |
Posted by: MattW Jan 10 2010, 08:58 AM
ToCA World Touring Cars for theOriginal Playstation, also called Jarrett & Labonte Stock Car Racing in the States. |

Cool! More time for me to save up money for a ps3! |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jan 17 2010, 04:33 PM
OMG really? It's pushed back again? <goes back to playing Forza> |
Posted by: RalliKai Jan 18 2010, 07:51 AM
Except at this rate, it will probably end up as a launch title for the PS3's successor. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jan 24 2010, 12:56 AM
Someone on GameFaqs posted this.
|
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jan 24 2010, 02:06 AM
That's such an amazing post, it really is. |
Posted by: Rudy Jan 24 2010, 02:45 AM |
The way I see it, by the time it's released, I'll actually be able to afford a PS3. |
Posted by: BOZZ Feb 13 2010, 07:04 PM |
Just came across this earlier today: http://www.connectedconsoles.com/ps3-Yamauchi-Hits-Out-At-Gran-Turismo-Competitors.cfm I was surprised that the PD head would even comment on other games... Glad to see he's not taking comments about Forza sitting down lol... |
Posted by: am3pkcet Feb 13 2010, 09:19 PM |
Wow. I mean, I always pinned him as an arrogant ass anyway, but wow. Maybe if he didn't take six and a half years to release a game, other devs wouldn't have to step in and release LOTS of viable, fun, and well made alternatives... |
Posted by: BOZZ Feb 13 2010, 09:50 PM
There seem to be quite a few of those this generation it seems... Games that are taking too long to come out (Alan Wake, Too Human, GT5). I just found it refreshing that he'd comment on it at all... |
Posted by: am3pkcet Feb 14 2010, 12:39 AM |
I just think his concited views are a bit arrogant for me. He blasts other devs and their games for being unreal, yet no GT game ever has implimented damage; not even in the most recent build I played at CES in January. As far as games taking too long, Too Human is a horrible example as that game was pure garbage. Iduno, I mean I'm as big of a GT fan as you can be, but I get so sick of hearing how he sees his games as the second coming of christ. He's worse than Steve Jobs in the self-absorbed nature. Maybe his head is too far up his ass to realize that other people are off enjoying other racing games because he's taking his sweet f**king time releasing GT. |
Posted by: BOZZ Feb 14 2010, 08:47 PM |
True, but it doesn't change how long it was in development... Also I believe Final Fantasy XIII was in development for quite a long period of time as well... |

http://ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/857126/gran-turismo-5/videos/gran_turismo_5_trl_031110.html New trailer, and still no hint of damage outside of Rally cars. |
Posted by: BlackSubaru Mar 11 2010, 07:12 PM |
damage does not and will not ever make this game for me. im int he minority, but when not even forza can get the feel of an e-brake right, something is wrong. need to increase the AI off the driver in your car...or something. day 1 buy for me. and im still playing GT psp so i will transfer alot of cars over. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Mar 11 2010, 07:29 PM |
I hate the fact that the GT series has always been a game of bumper cars. Don't get me wrong, I love GT and I own almost every version ever made, but there are some glaring omissions that seemingly EVERY OTHER GAME has. |
Posted by: BlackSubaru Mar 11 2010, 07:53 PM |
i fidn the lack of turn signals in all driving games disturbing. just reminds peopel to cut me off in real life. |
Posted by: laznlspeeddemon Mar 13 2010, 07:49 PM
since when do you see racers in actual races using turn signals? I can understand if we're playing nfs during street races but actual races. |
Posted by: BlackSubaru Mar 14 2010, 09:39 AM |
headlights at least, and racers do use them. sometimes i just wanto take a drive like a normal person, |
Posted by: am3pkcet Mar 14 2010, 11:23 AM |
Outside of LeMans, what race cars use headlights? If there are night races for street cars headlights are on anyway. Does GT5 finally allow you to play any course during the day or the night? I know PGR does. Day, night, rain, snow, whatever you want for all courses. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Mar 14 2010, 01:14 PM |
Are they hinting at a possible Shutokou expressway course? Would be nice cruising around with good physics for once. *looks at TXR series* |
Posted by: am3pkcet Mar 14 2010, 03:19 PM |
Would also be nice if they actually ever released this game. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Apr 8 2010, 05:58 AM
I just saw this. If they really do let you drive around the Shuto Expressway, that will be amazing. It'll be like Midnight Club II all over again...sortaish. I'd love that, seriously. I was gonna get a PS3 for other reasons anyway, but I'd totally forgotten about GT5. Here's hoping it actually gets released. |
Posted by: lance Apr 8 2010, 06:51 AM |
ohh that wangan type track looks cool! |
Posted by: Drift Dude Jun 13 2010, 05:52 AM
another trailer here.
But we do get the rome circuit back it seems. but still no date... |
Posted by: MattW Jun 13 2010, 08:01 AM |
It's a different layout to the previous Rome circuits. Expect something like this to be the layout(green track): Image size reduced, original size: 1024 x 658. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4053/4415529691_5ff9bafdde_b.jpg to view the image in its original dimension. |

aaaaand still no vehicle damage outside of the one subaru WRC car they've been showing for months. |
Posted by: RalliKai Jun 14 2010, 06:25 AM
At this point I would be content with just hearing the release date. {UPDATE} http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6265779/gran-turismo-5-revs-up-november-2 Gran Turismo 5 slated for November 2nd release.
|
Posted by: Jardim Jun 18 2010, 07:56 AM |
Yay Nov 2nd...day after my birthday...already told my girlfriend what i wanted! |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jun 18 2010, 02:35 PM |
If their demo was any indication, there will still be no damage modeling. The playable demo at the sony booth was the same one they had at CES. The only new thing was they had a few of them running in 3D. Same cars, same tracks, felt like the same physics, and there was no real time damage. It's going to be a huge disapointment when the game ships without it. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jun 21 2010, 08:07 PM |
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/110/1100609p1.html If this is true, then I'm more pumped then ever. The more stuff the better! I'm glad Polyphony Digital heard me when I said this game better have so much stuff in it I won't need a new racing game till GT6. But watch them do something stupid like only allowing cars to get damaged in stunt mode. http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5247p1.html 800 cars will have blacked out windows and no cockpit view. Ouch.. talk about buzz kill. But I guess I'll be fine as long as I get 1 R32 GT-R with cockpit view. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jun 21 2010, 09:03 PM |
Iduno, I think I'd rather them just release regular ol' Gran Turismo 5 three or four years ago and leave all the spin-off games (WRC, Nascar, Stunts, Karts) to a dedicated spin-off title. I can't express enough my frustration with GT5's delays. I guess when it finally comes out it will be amazing value and a lot of game (even if it does have 50 skylines, 30 silvias, and 20 Z cars), I am just absolutely sick of waiting. And considering the content amount, it could EASILY have been 2 or 3 games released over the past 6 years instead of making us sit and wait and play other games. I guess it's not all bad though; there are a lot of other great racing games lulz on the cockpits though. Also only the few "premium" cars will get any kind of actual damage. The other 800 will get "Dirt, Scratches, and Dents." There's also a lovely disclaimer at the bottom "* Damage is not necessarily applied to all races in the game." *yawn* |

You could always settle for blurry J-o vision Image size reduced, original size: 1024 x 768. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/jkaiba/IMGP0022.jpg to view the image in its original dimension. oh noes- Nomake is on my tail!!! Posted by: Nomake Wan Jun 21 2010, 10:09 PM |
God damn it J, when did you snap those photos!? How did I not know that until now? Anyway, wasn't surprised about the "no cockpit view" thing. I figured there was no way in hell they'd be able to do cockpits for all the bajillion cars they wanted to put into the game and still have it release in a reasonable amount of time. There just was no way. Anyone who thought otherwise was deluding themselves. I just figured they wouldn't go for the 800+ thing but would keep it down to how many cars they actually had details for (a la Forza). Oh well. It'll be interesting to see what'll happen. If you really can switch on/off headlights and drive the shuto expressway, glorious. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jun 21 2010, 10:57 PM
You sir, have made me completely jealous. I didn't know you actually owned an R32. |
Posted by: Drift Dude Jun 22 2010, 03:24 AM
now this is getting a bit to much, and i somewhat doubt if it's true but...
|
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jun 22 2010, 05:02 AM
Dude, look five posts up. See anything familiar? |
Posted by: Drift Dude Jun 22 2010, 11:08 AM
no... to lazy to read stuff from above. but still I find it crazy, I was just happy with all the stuff I could do in GT4. |
Posted by: HashiriyaR32 Jun 22 2010, 12:32 PM |
no... whistling.gif to lazy to read stuff from above. And Katyusha from Super Robot Wars Legacy thinks the same about me >_>. Well, I think it's guaranteed that whatever cars were featured in Prologue will retain their cockpit views for the full version. It'll be interesting to see what'll happen. If you really can switch on/off headlights and drive the shuto expressway, glorious. Site didn't say anything about turning lights completely off for night locales, but premium cars both high and low beams, while standard cars get standard lights. I presume no hi+low for those cars at the same time for unlit circuits? |
Posted by: RalliKai Jun 22 2010, 02:54 PM |
I didn't expect them to get the interior designs for all cars but the weather effects and racetrack editor is very intriguing. Depending on the extent that you can edit things. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jun 22 2010, 03:31 PM |
I don't expect anything fancy from the track editor. I imagine the enviroment layout will look similar to that "Complex Strings" track. Just tarmac, grass, and walls on both sides. |
Posted by: JKaiba Jun 22 2010, 03:56 PM
I'm expecting big things from the track editor. Can you imagine having local racetracks available as content; how about the gunma mountain roads; or drive a recreation of famous highways. I don't care if the scenery is all messed up- if they allow the freedom to make that, I'm so sold. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Jun 22 2010, 08:17 PM |
I totally agree. But I hate giving myself high hopes. Like you said, I'd love it if they gave you different layouts like mountains, expressways, circuit tracks.. etc etc |
Posted by: RalliKai Jun 22 2010, 08:42 PM |
It would add a whole new dynamic to the game. I wonder with the varying weather conditions idea if we'll actually see more then just a wet course or overcast weather. Like actual rain, fog or even snowfall and would their be a custom option for the player to adjust the conditions to their liking. That would be great. Like what Phantom says, I'm not getting my hopes too high though. |
Posted by: JKaiba Jun 22 2010, 08:54 PM
LOL if they allow us to make the 5 freeway in rush hour on 1 gallon of gas we can recreate more of N1 and my Wangan Noontime Minimum Tune experience:
Forza has had some interesting things come out of it. I'm hoping PDigital isn't a dick about user generated content. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jun 22 2010, 10:24 PM |
Dang it J... thankfully the GT series hasn't put gasoline consumption into their games yet, so that wouldn't work. Still, if the editing tools are up to snuff, I wonder how long it'll be before some guys get together and recreate the SoCal freeways? That would be some ridiculosity. Online gaming is cheaper and safer than actually doing it, after all. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jun 22 2010, 10:31 PM |
We all know a penis-shaped track is only a matter of time.... =/ |
Posted by: Tessou Jun 22 2010, 10:42 PM |
I'm more interested in seeing how well people stack up to the Top Gear times on the test track. Will anybody be able to beat the Stig's best time with allowable vehicles? I'd like to see an "IDW Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" board to see how we all rank driving a little Lacetti (if it's in the game). |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Jun 23 2010, 01:01 AM
Oh, I am so taking that title. You know, as soon as I uh.. get a PS3 again...and the game... and a decent wheel... ...cry. |
Posted by: Tessou Jun 23 2010, 01:21 AM |
I know for a fact that I'll be terrible. My usual method of tackling corners in videogames dumps my times in the shitter so often it's embarassing. I don't have too many Forza times that don't have a list of penalties attached. Guess it's time to start training. If GT5 turns out to be good, I might decide to rejoin the PS3 fold once more, albeit cautiously. |
Posted by: Drift Dude Jun 23 2010, 01:57 AM
I thought GT 4 had some sort of Fuel usage thingy? |
Posted by: Tessou Jun 23 2010, 02:54 AM |
GT4 had fuel management. It was quite prevalent in endurance races (natch) and B-Spec mode let you tweak things like when the driver should pit to refuel. Running out locked your car's max speed to 50mph and it would sort of just roll to the pit automatically. |
Posted by: Rallyist Jun 23 2010, 10:56 AM
There is a another difference about 800 cars;
They ported 800 vehicle from gt4 and just upscale it.The whole 1000 car thing is huge lie. They working almost 5 year for gt5 and what just 200 cars,no real damage and pointless Wrc license. There is no any real wrc stage or rally mode.Gt's rally stages rallycross not a rally and Wrc cars replaces next year new ones.PD's Wrc license end in next year.Gt 5 Prologue out 2.5 year ago and has 50-60 cars.So what are they making in last 2.5 year? If standart car thing announced in the begining it's ok but no one knows before. It's shame for Gt name.If Codemasters or Criterion work for a racing game almost 5 year,I belive they create better game than Gt5. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jun 23 2010, 07:43 PM
Once F1 2010 comes out, Codemasters will have released four excellent games within four years; about 2/3 the amount of time PD has been "working" a single game. I have a really hard time buying why GT5 has taken so long.... |
Posted by: Tessou Jun 23 2010, 08:18 PM |
Probably to develop the unnecessary 3D support. That's my guess. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Jun 23 2010, 08:47 PM |
3D should not be difficult in a virtual world for any reason. Objects already exist in virtual 3D space, so render out two virtual cameras for left/right eye and job done: stereoscopic 3D. Granted that's probably a vast oversimplification, judging on what I know about 3D technology, the processing speed needed to keep up without framerate or resolution sacrifices would be a way bigger deal than anything else. Maybe that's why the Rome screen shots I saw looked to have cheap texturing and blocky modeling. The trees are still two 2D planes intersecting eachother in a + form. Image size reduced, original size: 800 x 450. http://us.gran-turismo.com/c/binary/images/5248/photo08a.jpg to view the image in its original dimension. |

Photo mode is coming back: http://n4g.com/news/557415/gran-turismo-5-photo-mode-video-emerged Also PD is going to release a collectors edition: http://kotaku.com/5564686/gran-turismo-5s-collectors-edition-is-reward-for-your-patience $100 is quite a bit.. But I'm still ordering it regardless. Also here's a vid of the top gear test track. (I dont know if it's old or not) http://kotaku.com/5578024/watch-a-guy-complete-a-lap-of-top-gears-test-track |

New info? Now?
|
Posted by: RalliKai Aug 23 2010, 11:57 AM |
I was hoping the track maker would be a pure editor but ahwell. It sounds intriguing no less and B-spec mode should be interesting. Wonder how the emotions of the driver feature will do? |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 23 2010, 12:12 PM
I'm sure it'll still make the release date even though they added all that stuff. Most of that news regarding the karting and course maker has been known for a while now anyways. Plus, Kaz has probably been working on it for a long time.
|
Posted by: am3pkcet Aug 23 2010, 03:53 PM |
I hope I'm not the only one who thinks Karting is a stupid waste of time for a GT game.... In fact, I think most of the added modes in this game are a stupid waste of time. It just seems like Kaz threw out a cloud of ideas on a wall, threw some darts at it, and then just said screw it, let's do em all anyway! I would much rather have had GT5 two to four years ago as just the racing game we all know GT to be. Then release these add-ons (Nascar, WRC, Kart, whatever) as optional DLC or as a bundled add on (or stand alone) pack. It not only would have generated insane amounts of income, but would have let us, the gamers, actually play the game instead of making us wait seven years. edit: I also wonder if it will suffer from "Gran Turismo Syndrome" when it comes to cars. Meaning, yeah, they claim to have thousands, but most of their newest ones are at least a model year (sometimes a generation) behind what's currently available. Usually a result of taking so goddamn long to make. |
Posted by: Soran Aug 23 2010, 04:46 PM |
I second that. I've waited ever since 2007 (When i bought my PS3) JUST.RELEASE.THE.GODDAMNED.GAME.ALREADY... |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 23 2010, 06:04 PM |
All people wanted was a GT4 with better graphics, better custimization, more cars, more courses and damage. Instead, we get karting. |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Aug 23 2010, 07:10 PM |
Are they finally including Porsche, Lamborghini, or Ferrari vehicles? (although RUF counts as Porsche) |
Posted by: RalliKai Aug 23 2010, 08:29 PM
Ferrari and Lambo, yes. Porsche, unfortunatly no.
They included cars like the Prius and Scion Xb in GT4. I want a Ford Model T in GT5 to rip around the track in. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 23 2010, 08:42 PM
I wish Porsche would be included.. But since Kaz is pals with Nissan. I don't see that happening. Seeing how Nissan and Porsche are best friends after all.. /sarcasm |
Posted by: am3pkcet Aug 23 2010, 09:23 PM
I'd gladly take 200-300 cars if they're all cars I'd actually want to drive. Forza only has a couple hundred (including several DLC packs) and I still struggle to pick and choose what I want to drive. To be honest, this 1,000+ car bullshit is just marketing. I'll bet if you take the lineage down to name only (IE the 1989, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, and 2002 model of a car count as ONE car), the "1000" would be more like "300." And, like I said earlier, GT seems to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be behind the times in recent car releases. Luckily now they can update this with DLC, but it was always annoying in GT3 and 4 to have to settle for last years model, or the previous generation of a car. |
Posted by: Rudy Aug 23 2010, 09:30 PM
I just hope this game finally includes EVERY car that was in GT2 in addition to the new ones. I miss my SVX... |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 23 2010, 10:28 PM
Bad wording on my part. When I wrote that, I complete forgot the fact they have 900+ cars as it is. I don't mind too much about GT5 not having that many cars from 2010-2011.. Seeing how most of them aren't even sporty to begin with. Besides the Ferrari Revonton, Lexus LF-A and whatever else came out this year. I'd be happy with a Forza 3 sized car list though. Gran Turismo has too many "filler" cars, like you mentioned. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 23 2010, 11:54 PM |
I'm so adding the theme songs from Capeta to the custom soundtrack list. Too bad the Stratos was confirmed as one of the GT4-port cars. Boo. |

If anyone has a Best Buy near them, be on the look out. I'm not sure if all, but some Best Buy locations have the newest GT5 demo. According to this link: http://www.gtplanet.net/new-gran-turismo-5-damage-model-in-best-buy-demo/ |
Posted by: am3pkcet Sep 6 2010, 11:23 PM |
Iduno, I just find it so hard to get excited for GT anymore. It's like waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, moving on, etc etc. I mean I'm sure the game will be great... I'm just so.... over it. |
Posted by: RalliKai Sep 7 2010, 06:26 AM |
I'd rather just wait alittle longer for the full game then go for an other demo. Not too hard when you've already waited half a decade. |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Sep 7 2010, 10:46 AM |
They're porting car models from GT4? Kind of sounds lazy... |
Posted by: RalliKai Sep 7 2010, 12:08 PM |
Yeah, not sure what models are imported though. I'm more curious to see if the physics will be improved. Not the more grippy understeer physics from GT4 or the oversteer happy physics from 3. |
Posted by: Smiley_DC2 Sep 7 2010, 02:13 PM
agreed .. i probably won't end up getting it until it hits platinum status .. mind you that probably won't take long either |
Posted by: ChiyoV Sep 7 2010, 04:39 PM |
Hang on, so are Indy Cars (IZOD Indy Car Series) included in GT5? Weird that there hasn't been any marketing about it at any IZOD Indy Car Series race this year or on TV. (<--went to GP of Sonoma at Infineon, met Helio Castroneves) |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Sep 7 2010, 05:50 PM
The one nearest to me doesn't have it. There are two others I could go to but they're not as close and I don't feel like it. Meh. |
Posted by: ChiyoV Sep 9 2010, 03:19 PM |
The Gamestop near my place has the demo. I used Jeff Gordon's car at Rome Circuit. Anyone knows if this is downloadable to my PS3 at home? |

That sounds nuts. I'll definitely make some rounds and look for a demo. We're rarely up on the latest around here, but worth a look. |

I'm liking the weather affects. I'm kind of disappointed by the lack of lingering dust on the dirt stages though. So you'll be able to paint your car now huh? |

Update. Played a demo at Best Buy. My performance wasn't the best, but I had two people stop and talk to me about the game. |

That sounds like they want to release it closer to Christmas to for heightened sales. I could be wrong though. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Oct 13 2010, 12:23 PM |
I'm guessing it was pushed back because Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out the week after GT5 was suppose to come out. I guess that's just more proof that PD cares more about money than their fans. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 13 2010, 03:17 PM |
LOOOOOOOL! Well played PD. If they're nothing else, they're predictable. |
Posted by: RalliKai Oct 14 2010, 08:30 PM |
Well Nov 2nd turned out to be too good to be true afterall. DiRT 3 will be out before GT5 at this rate. |
Posted by: Jardim Oct 25 2010, 08:13 AM |
The delay was caused by PS3 firmware issues and Sony. I don't think we can blame PD or Black Ops. (2 differnt titles which both have a cult following and are both bound to hit diamond status) It will come out in November. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 25 2010, 11:02 AM |
Who knows, who cares. It's Gran Turismo; it gets delayed. Thats what they do. I for one stopped caring about Gran Turismo years ago. Between PGR3/4, Grid, Dirt1/2, and Forza2/3, I've certainly not been wasting my time thinking about GT over the past 6 years. |
Posted by: Boost1995 Oct 27 2010, 11:27 AM |
Game Stop says it ship 1-1-11. Nice. |
Posted by: RalliKai Oct 27 2010, 05:26 PM |
I hope they're wrong since Mass Effect 2 is being released that same month on the PS3. |
Posted by: Shirogane Oct 27 2010, 06:03 PM
Yeesh, tone it down. Getting all seriously pissed for a game? Really?! It would suck if someone came by and dented your ride... |
Posted by: am3pkcet Oct 28 2010, 11:22 AM
Well its understandable considering the game has been "delayed" or "pushed back" officially or unofficially off and on for the past three years or so. In the time PD has taken to make GT5, other companies have released 2, 3, sometimes 4 titles (like Codemasters with Dirt, GRID, Dirt2, F1 2010). So it's like a final slap in the face to us fans to say difinitively, once and for all, THIS is the date! ......and then change it and push it back again. Like I said earlier, I'm not surprised in the least bit, but it is a really dick move to do. And really? 2 months? They've been working on this game over 6 years, what could they possibly have that they could do in 2 months? The game should have already gone gold and set off to packaging. |
Posted by: Spaz Oct 28 2010, 05:09 PM
Hell, the game should already be on Greatest Hits shelves, like the second Forza title it was meant to compete with, but we won't talk about that one. |
Posted by: Tessou Oct 28 2010, 05:24 PM |
In the time between GT4 and GT5, we've seen countless franchises either start up and/or gain sequels. Blur is a big name among the bunch. |

I'll be receiving it through Gamefly. I might choose to buy it, especially since GF is offering an additional $10 off for purchasing a game this week. |
Posted by: Drift Dude Nov 23 2010, 12:01 PM
most of that is only to the premium cars, standard can't change rims, don't have body kits only some wings, no carbon bonnet, can't do race conversion. So you're kinda limited to what you can do to a standard car, but not to a premium one. so if you got a standard version R32 skyline, you can't do any of the stuff above. But with the premium version you can.

That's rediculous. And so many cars were left out. I was looking forward to driving the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, but I guess it came out too late for the designers at PD to render the car. A standard model would have been fine, but oh well. I can't believe that there's no stock 370Z.. |

Most of those S2000s are standard, so the textures of one S2000 is probably the same texture as 3-6 others... You can't hate on the other ones though like Spoons and Mugens, because its a different car in terms of power, handling and aftermarket looks. But i hear you on the Eclipses and whatnot. It's B.S. hopefully we wont see in GT6. |

If ya wanna get more pissed off, look at the Impreza list. And I don't care if they're different, we don't need 10+ imprezas. You know what I've noticed? The 2nd gen DSM they included is the base model ESi. Who the f**k cares about a NA FWD DSM? EDIT: Haha, true say. I swear, my favorite thing about Forza 3 was the engine swaps that they included. GT5 would freakin be AWESOME with that feature. I'd love to have a K20 EK or EG civic. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 23 2010, 11:49 PM |
^See, that's my problem with PD. Yes, they make a great product, but its not without its flaws, and its as if they don't even care. They don't listen to critics, fans, or anyone who doesnt praise their Japan-centric car list and Japan-centric track list. They just plug their ears and do what they want, and with this method they get this really strange combination of pure excellence and pure garbage. Like I said, luckily I have a lot of other racing games to sink my teeth into. |

Those should be the only ones in the game. Seeing how they are different specs. But I still get where you're coming from. PD needs to stop adding "filler" cars so they reach their 1000 car mark. Adding 10 Type V's, and different EU and US models is just bullshit. I can see adding maybe one US model just for the fact someone might want left hand drive. but still.. it's pretty bad Oh, and: 669. P Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) ‘08 370z.. Fairlady Z, same thing. |

RalliKai, 12 < 21/22 Miatas... And silly me, I should have noticed Z34, but being the JDM noob I am, I missed that. Why couldn't PD just put S2k or Skyline, or even Impreza, and then made a subsection for cars which had different models in that particular year... |

I want this game but am very nervous about getting it. Will the physics be as utterly horrible as gt4s? Im scared Maybe ill try and rent it first before i shell out the coin for a 60 dollar potential fail game. I was not pleased with the demo when I played that, Im only "hopeful" theyve corrected the horrible issues. |
Posted by: chillined Nov 24 2010, 03:44 PM |
Actually, the physics in GT4 was decent, until you lost traction... Then it all went to shit. |
Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Nov 24 2010, 04:06 PM |
GT4 was so unrealistic it's not even funny. I'm so impressed with the physics in GT5 though. After playing that 370z demo, I had lost all hope to be honest. But man, the game feels amazing. My stock ass AE86 really felt like how my actual stock ass AE86 handles. Plus the engine sounds are actually badass now. |
Posted by: RalliKai Nov 24 2010, 04:12 PM
My bad then. Wasn't aware they were going with that many. Won't be able to try GT5 till most likely Friday now. I was alittle concerned as well after playing the 370z demo but the word I'm hearing from everyone is encouraging. |
Posted by: sideways Nov 24 2010, 05:18 PM
The physics in gt4 were as realistic as the physics in Initial D AS (albeit on the opposite spectrum). Its traction physics in all regards, even before you lose traction, were utter garbage. Sure it could be "fun" to race in, but there was 0 realism to gt4 beyond the fact that you accelerated between corners and slowed down at them. |

Another reason I hate PS3 in genral. I stop by Best Buy after work to pick up GT5 (coupons ftw; 45$ after tax). I get home at exactly 5:04. Since then, I have had to download and then install a PS3 System Update. Popped in GT5 and was greeted with "Please download this update patch 1.01" which is 133mb. Oh, and it had to install too, after downloading. At 5:35, I was greeted with the GT5 logo.... and then "It is recommended you install data on your HDD." After four minutes of sitting on the Installing Data screen with "Approx 20 min left" at the bottom and only two pixels of progress in the bar, I said f**k this and hit cancel. Ugh..... This keeps reminding me why I hate getting games for PS3.... Also, I love it when people tell me I'm an XBOX/Anti-GT/Forza fanboy: |
Posted by: chillined Nov 24 2010, 06:42 PM
Oh true. Maybe I just don't remember how shit GT4 was I sold my PS2 and all my games like 4/3 years ago. And that GT collection is epic. EDIT: Where's your G27/G25? haha |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 24 2010, 06:57 PM
I was gonna buy one when GT5 was supposed to come out 3 years ago. I had no reason to buy one till GT5 came out cuz GT5p was a snooze-fest. I'm now debating if I want that or just the new Driving Force ps3 one for half as much. I like having labels on the buttons and it has better UI control for a PS3. Plus I have no use for an H-shifter, as I would likely exclusively use padels for racing. I just wanna know how much (if any) better the new DF wheel is compared to the original 900º wheel. BTW, that other copy of GT5p is signed by driver Tanner Foust who, among his driving accomplishments, now hosts American Top Gear. I won it by beating him in a race in GT5p during a Formula D drifting event in Long Beach a year or two ago. |
Posted by: BOZZ Nov 24 2010, 09:21 PM
Blame to the Blu Ray laser and discs... Apparently they are a lot slower than DVDs since there is more data to read and thus why installation of the games is apparently helpful in reducing the amount of reading off the disc. It's sort of hit or miss... with releases where you have this long updates or installs. |
Posted by: sideways Nov 24 2010, 10:09 PM |
All my money goes into my real car Thus i have no game wheels. Side note; Room mate surprised me by buying gt5 on the way home. Should have expected it. Gt5 is still imo very "arcadey" in a lot of senses, but a VAST improvement physics wise over the previous version. Steering with the controller is very "clunky" imo and a bit overly jerky- Which rather sucks, but its doable. I do feel that the game will come to life a bit more with a steering wheel, maybe ill throw one on my list of things to get. |
Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Nov 24 2010, 10:27 PM |
The game is completely different with a wheel. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 24 2010, 10:27 PM |
I've never once played any PS racing game that felt good with a controller; especially the GT games. In fact, that was one of the biggest draws for me to a 360 back in 2006. Playing PGR3 in a store kiosk I was blown away with how well it controlled with nothing but sticks and triggers. And since then, I've played PGR3, PGR4, DiRT, GRID, DiRT2, and Forza 3, all with flawless precision on a 360 controller. Maybe it's something to do with the PS controllers, or maybe its something in GT's design. But even when remapped to the "good" driving controls (L2/R2 accel/brake, [ ] downshift O upshift X e-brake, etc. instead of that whole silly business of using the right stick to accel and brake, or god forbid X and O), its still clunky and awkward with a controller. I originally got the wheel for GT games because, IMO, its impossible to control well enough without one. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Nov 24 2010, 10:40 PM |
Wangan Midnight for PS3 played pretty good with a PS3 controller, but that's the only racing game that comes to mind for PS3 that I remember actually liking the controls for. |
Posted by: sideways Nov 24 2010, 10:42 PM
Def a GT thing. I played enthusia on the ps2 with the sticks and loved how that game controlled in comparison. Gt5 feels like it just wants to "snap" at all times. |

GT5 feels so niceeee. It doesn't even feel like your usual GT game. http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1136103p3.html I think that 10/10 simulation wrapped in a 5/10 game quote wraps up that review pretty nicely. I agree with it. They could've improved on so many things. But I still enjoy it. I'd still be playing it right now, but I was out drinking all night and am just now recovering. |

With a bit more seat time im just back to confirm my previous suspicion- The game is twitchy, horribly so (again: at least with the controller). Ive lost count now where ive been mid slide (hey at least we CAN finally slide!) and the sliiiightest tap for counter-steer has sent my car spinning alarmingly, and very unrealistically, in the exact opposite direction. Hopefully a wheel correct this nonsense, its rather frustrating. |

I'm not digging it. Considering PP's arrogance about the product, the game is quite half-baked in my opinion. Despite all of the complaints about the horrible AI, it seems they just went "Oh well, here's your Gran Turismo 5. Deal with it." It has been mentioned by a lot of people already that the premium cars look amazing, and the remaining 800+ cars look weird in many cases. I'm glad IGN didn't give the game an instant 10/10 just because ZOMFG GT5!!!!! They recognize that while some of the game is great, a lot more of it sucks.
Shows my opinion perfectly. I honestly believe PP is arrogant about their product. It's almost like they ignored every other racing game, and even complaints about the GT series, because "OUR GAME IS THE BEST SIMULATION EVER!" 10/10 simulation wrapped in a 5/10 game indeed. |

I seriously hope there's DLC, because the standard cars just look pathetic. They look like they're from Initial D Extreme Stage. As a whole, I'm finding this game enjoyable and I'll be playing this for a longgg long time. I just hope Kaz gets his shit together and makes GT6 what this should've been. Japanese arrogance is killing video games. First, Final Fantasy XIII.. now Gran Turismo 5. Also, what's the point of head tracking? If you look to the right or left you're not even looking at the TV. |
Posted by: MattW Nov 25 2010, 12:39 PM
The standard cars are taken from GT4, just new textures over the old models. |
Posted by: Jardim Nov 25 2010, 01:02 PM
Kaz said in the Madrid launch party that the game will be constantly updated and DLC will be available frequently. |

To be honest.... after putting some time into GT5... it just makes me want to play Froza 3 again..... |

So there's no car damage in this? Also is the opening theme still Moon Over The Castle or did they change it like they always seem to do for the US? |
Posted by: Bubs Nov 25 2010, 01:36 PM
I honestly have no idea. I remember when there was a huge gloating s**tstorm about it because "finally, the greatest racing game in the entire world has damage!" followed up by some screenshots of really awful deformation. It does not seem like there is damage at all, confirmed by some other reports. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 25 2010, 02:06 PM
I've been pointing out all along that the "damage" being shown was a few select rally cars shown in extremely limited demos. People cried heresy at me for it, but hey, guess what, GT still doesnt have any worthwhile damage, and it's still bumper cars galore. It's business as usual for the GT devs. It's clearly more important to have different variations of shiny paint reflections than anything else. |

The GameFAQS board for GT5 is blowing up right now. I see a few common trends: Someone points out an obvious problem with GT5. First response calls them a troll. Argument ensues. Someone mentions the issue with how only one in five cars has a cockpit view, making the racing wheel they bought just for GT5 really awkward to use most of the time. First response calls them a troll. Argument ensues. Someone says that they legitimately love GT5 despite its flaws. First response calls them a fanboy. Argument ensues. Someone states their opinion that Forza 3 is better. First response says that's impossible, GT5 has more cars. Argument ensues. GT fanboys using circular arguments to say GT5 is better. Forza fanboys using circular arguments to say Forza 3 is better. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 25 2010, 02:39 PM |
Well I think it's at least safe to say that GT5 is the best racing game 2006 has to offer. |
Posted by: Bubs Nov 25 2010, 02:45 PM |
I've come to one final consensus: GT Fanboys at GT4 release: The reviews say it's awesome, therefore it's awesome! GT Fanboys at GT5 release: Don't listen to reviewers. GT5 is still awesome! |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 25 2010, 02:55 PM |
Well thats the thing... when GT4 came out, there was nothing like it. It really was a one of kind, excellent racing experience. Yeah it didn't have damage, yeah it was bumper cars, yeah the AI was dumb as rocks, yeah the sound effects were beyond terrible, but overall, it was absoutely excellent. And the nitpicky downsides were greatly outweighed by how good the rest of the game is. Now, GT5 is a lot better than GT4 in many things, but takes huge steps back in a few (like the UI; the map interface in GT4 was snappy and intuitive). Rather than taking the time or the effort to observe and learn from competing racing games, they chose to arrogantly ignore everyone else to just do their own thing, and if you don't like it you can suck a fat one. Hey, if it works for Apple....... Honestly, it's not much against GT itself. It's still more of the same great game GT4 was.... the problem lies in that everyone else has significantly stepped up their games in the mean time, so GT carries much less weight and doesn't have a competative edge anymore. |
Posted by: MattW Nov 25 2010, 02:59 PM |
The last demo they had, the NASCAR stockcars definitely had damage. |
Posted by: Bubs Nov 25 2010, 03:00 PM |
I meant to stop posting, but this is worthwhile: Gran Turismo Fanboy on car damage complaints: And what's damage got to do with a competent driver?" It's about the game being realistic. Cars bouncing off eachother has been part of the Gran Turismo series since the beginning. But, in this day and age, it is time for the series to grow up. Gran Turismo Fanboy on the static, non-moving interior view: "And when was it normal for a racing driver of any pedigree to look around at the car's interior. lol. You don't like the 'stale angle' then go race a real racing car, this is a video game." ...I thought the purpose of this game was to simulate driving, I don't know, a real racing car? |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Nov 25 2010, 03:02 PM |
I'd forgive all the game's faults and just be happy it's finally here after so long. Now I want a PS3 badly. |

GT5 is awesome. I am enjoying it quite a bit, and I don't even care. f**k yea |
Posted by: sideways Nov 25 2010, 03:32 PM
Again. The more I play, the more im disliking this game. The AI is still crap, at least now theyre AWARE of you, they just dont care. The suggested line is horrible- I dont like relying on it, but its nice for maps you dont know yet- Sadly, its useless. The suggested line is so bad at times even the AI refuses to use it Menus STILL suck. Small load times here and there are ok, but when youre going from sub menu to sub menu to submenu with a load time in between each, it gets old- fast. The amount of poorly modeled cars is amazing, I understand why they are- But theres no excuse for that from this series, especially when you take into account how long theyve dragged out the development for this game (Even gayer when you consider that you cant swap rims on "standard" cars, wtf, seriously). Also horribly let down by the gameplay. With the AI so bad I find myself falling into an old habit of every previous gt game- Getting money, building a fast car, and racing the slower ai cars, simply so i dont have to race WITH the ai. The only thing saving the game play for me are the special events. Really the list of complaints for this long awaited and highly anticipated game can go on and on. In the end i feel like im left playing a game that has very little to show for its years of development. It really feels like they tweaked a few things from gt4, added some new models, and half-assed added the ability to oversteer. In the end I feel like im playing a game that should be competing with forza 2 (its amazing to think that in the time its taken them to release this game turn 10 has released not one, not two, but three forza games). GT5. Bringing you yesterdays game, Today! In the end I feel i I have to admit that after gt4, prologue, Hd, and various gt5 demos- the game is better than I thought it would be. Sadly it still doesnt measure up to what it SHOULD have been. Edit:
Ive been sitting on hitting post far too long it seems. While i disagree about how great gt4 was (I personally think it sucked, enthusia was much more fun to me- and then forza 2 was there to occupy my interest)- This statement sums up completely how I feel about gt5. PS...S: Also dislike the inability to actually mess with the AI in this game. Common sense and physics would tell me if i pushed a rear wheel driven vehicle to the side by its tail with the edge of my nose, it would send him spinning end for end. Gt5 (like other gt games) for some reason does not allow this, at best you can nudge and bump people. What in the physics is disallowing this? Of course its all fine for the AI when youre in THEIR way and they tap you- Which is accompanied by the single impact sound effect the game seems to have to offer no matter WHAT you hit, no matter the speed: *thud*. Also think the whole "over 1000 cars!!!" fact is highly deceptive. I count no less than 23 FD variants. Each adding to the "1000 cars!!!" list. Sigh. Oh well |
Posted by: Sensation! Nov 25 2010, 05:02 PM |
i was seriously considering getting a PS3 for GT5 tomorrow until i started hearing the horror stories. not to be picky about graphics Image size reduced, original size: 1620 x 1080. http://images.4chan.org/o/src/1290727315601.jpg to view the image in its original dimension. but that's unacceptable. 1000 cars and 800 of them are straight PS2 ports? might as well just advertise your 200 premium models as the "full car list" instead :\ |
Posted by: Bubs Nov 25 2010, 05:16 PM |
GameFAQS nerds would say "How dare you expect a company to make a 1,000 cars with that amazing detail?" The problems with that: Only the premium cars have interior views. This makes using a wheel incredibly awkward for the non-premium cars. For all of the development time involved in this game, it is unacceptable to have two tiers of quality for vehicles. Completely unacceptable. Sensation: Good thing you didn't waste your money. I didn't either, I was able to "enjoy" the game on a friend's borrowed PS3 with his GT5 copy. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Nov 25 2010, 05:35 PM |
There is damage in this game. The stuff you're seeing in arcade mode or at Lvl 1 is nothing compared to the damage you get around Lvl 20. |
Posted by: laznlspeeddemon Nov 25 2010, 05:53 PM |
Oh please, not having the inside interior view takes away from the having the wheel feeling.... Whatever!!! We did it for GT4 for the longest time and could enjoy the game, get over it!!! I seriously can't wait to get my copy on sunday once I'm back in town to pick up my game. Honestly, I am a fanboy, been one since I've played the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and now the 5th (which I can't wait for). If being a fanboy is wrong, I don't want to be right. They did what was right to make it feel realistic except for the part that you crash into people. In racing, yes it happens, but you don't try to crash into other cars. In F12010, crashing isn't realistic enough even though they have it. As long as GT series keeps improving and eventually gets it right and realistic, then I'm happy. |
Posted by: sideways Nov 25 2010, 05:55 PM |

Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 25 2010, 07:32 PM
Nothing wrong with that. And in fact if you've not played a lot of the other great racing games, there's not much to complain about. Our collective gripes mostly come from the advancements that other developers have made in the past half-decade while Polyphony Digital had their fingers in their ears, busy re-hashing a racing game formula from the late 90's, made up of car models from 2004, and showing no overall growth as a series. |
Posted by: Bubs Nov 25 2010, 07:39 PM |
Exactly where I stand. A lot of the things that Polyphony ignored are a huge slap in the face for everyone who waited six years, delay after delay, for this game to come out. As I said before, Polyphony looks downright arrogant in some of these decisions. |
Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Nov 25 2010, 07:51 PM
Well sure I have. I played Enthusia on a daily basis when it came out, every GT thus far, every Forza thus far, was totally addicted to Battle Gear for a while too. Maybe I'm just not picky. |
Posted by: sideways Nov 25 2010, 07:57 PM |
Oh no its a "good game" by all means. Its just a let down in a lot of ways when you consider everything around it |
Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Nov 25 2010, 07:58 PM |

I got used to playing GT3 and 4 with the standard controller and had few issues with that method. Using the controller in GT5 though made handling feel off or just alittle floaty imo. The physics are nice improvement though. It's nice being able to get oversteer easier. I was disappointed by some of the exclusions I noticed from previous games, atleast from the standard dealership. Load times have been an irritation aswell. Playing this game on a standard television hasn't been the best of experiences either. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 26 2010, 07:03 PM
I'd have to say the biggest thing about the visuals are that they are wildly inconsistant. There are some things which literally make my eyes pop. Driving through Rome in a Premium car is just stunning. However driving through one of the re-hash in-house courses, especially the new one, inspire not much more than bland, dreary, flat, low quality feelings. Its odd that given the amount of time spent on the game, there's so much that feels like corners have been cut. |
Posted by: RalliKai Nov 26 2010, 08:22 PM |
I was meaning more on trying to read through the menu's and other text on a standard definition. I do agree with you though about graphical inconsistency. I drove through Trial Mountain and shrugged at it. The rally tracks and ones with changing time and conditions can be quite pleasing to see. |

^ Unless those are screen caps from live gameplay, its still not "actual gameplay." It's a single-frame, rendered image based on gameplay. Which means it's going to have smooth edges, no jaggies, better motion blur and focus blur, and generally a much higher quality image than is actually seen in-game while playing. |
Posted by: BlackSubaru Nov 28 2010, 01:30 PM |
^so what yer sayin is, you cant take photos of gameplay. there is no screen capture that i am aware of. unless your tv can do that... |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Nov 28 2010, 02:04 PM |
Whether it be gameplay or photomode, it's from a video game and it's making cars look almost realistic. That's pretty impressive, in my opinion. Just imagine next gen racing games. It'll probably be the real thing. |
Posted by: Takeshi Nakazato Nov 28 2010, 02:32 PM |
I agree with Phantom, its very impressive non the less. Grant it I wish all cars looked like premium cars and all tracks were rendered much more better. But personally I am enjoying this game very much which the better sound, physics and smoke effects Phantom, when are going to do some wangan runs? |
Posted by: chillined Nov 28 2010, 03:36 PM |
I don't ever recall saying that I'm not impressed. I just said that I can believe it, because it's not REAL(-Time) gameplay. It is impressive. And Graphics are just a little part of racing games. I just hope the physics in the game is improved. Take Live for Speed for an example. Shitty f**kin' graphics, but yet world famous for great physics. (Can Anyone confirm that in the premium cars, the steering wheel turn proportional to the amount on their wheel controller?) |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 28 2010, 05:16 PM
What I mean is that the photo mode is not what the game looks like. They take several seconds to render out a single frame because they smooth out all the imperfections and add a lot of effects that aren't in real time. If someone were running the video feed into a computer and taking screen captures of actual gameplay, it would look significantly different. Still good (assuming you are driving a premium car on a well built track), but not nearly as good as the rendered images.
Not whatsoever. Wheels on screen turn maybe a max of 30º in either direction. |

I just spent the last half hour or so doing it. I kind of wanted to kill myself, but at least its done now. The only way to do it is super late braking and using the other vans as walls when you can while weaving between them. I really want that portion of my life back. Whoever put that in as an unlock requirement should really be shot; for two reasons. One, its a stupid, ridiculous, awful, awful event. Two, there's NO indication on how or even IF the TG track is unlockable at all. I had to google for quite a while until I stumbled onto a forum discussing it. |

Posted by: sideways Nov 29 2010, 03:13 AM
They need to release the american top gear track if you ask me. Im also finding the "unlockables" in gt5 annoying. Im down for playing the game to unlock things, even if some things are a challenge- but some of this stuff is just so stupid.. |
Posted by: chillined Nov 29 2010, 05:15 AM
Then you can count me out as a Gran Turismo 5 player. What the hell were PD thinking when making GT5? That function bothered me hardcore in NFS: Shift, I do NOT like it one bit. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 29 2010, 06:52 AM
I don't hate it; in fact there's a lot to like. What I do hate is the complete lack of progress GT has made as a series in addition to several other shortcomings that you'd think would have been addressed with over six years of development. And actually, yeah, GT has motivated me to pick up FM3 again, and I'm railing my way through the sixth season. |
Posted by: MattW Nov 29 2010, 07:29 AM
99% of the time, you shouldn't have to turn the steering wheel more than 90 degrees while you're racing. Oh, and I have a feeling Clarkson was the one who designed that VW challenge, haha. |
Posted by: JKaiba Nov 29 2010, 09:59 AM |
Not sure what you all are complaining about. I got through that VW challenge in 1st place in about 3 wholehearted attempts (about 10 if you count attempts with me restarting from trying to get the hang of the bus' handling and shift points). I got through that clean without having to use the other vans as 'assists'. You've actually got a lot of track you can use to accelerate your piece of junk that the other buses don't even touch which makes it easy to avoid them on overtaking. I also got gold in all of b license in about an hour after picking up the game. I don't exactly have all the time in the world either as those of you who know my work schedule are familiar with but I managed to plow through quite a bit of stuff available through level 10 drivers that I'm hoping there's a lot more to this game that what I'm seeing. |
Posted by: Tomo Nov 29 2010, 10:32 AM
there are too many positives to me for me to be held down by some things that make others unhappy, but I guess thats why there are so many other racing games out there right? everyone has their own preferences. i love this game |
Posted by: Jardim Nov 29 2010, 10:50 AM |
So far i have seen a lot of complaints here......If you don't like what PD did to the game...wait until GT6. I like the game, despite it's cons. And knowing it's a game for the PS3 that came out in 2010 i know there will be DLC and patches to further enhance my playability. Online lounges are sick! Nothing better than a old school drift session or a lap on the ring with rain and time change =) |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 29 2010, 11:37 AM
I guess my attitude comes from the frustration of waiting soo long for a game that has been immensely hyped only to be given a big pile of the same old problems that have plagued GT for generations (in addition to plenty of new ones). I want to love this game and there are still a lot of good things, but it seems to keep finding new ways to break my heart. Like I showed earlier, I'm probably one of the http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5285/gtgtgtgt.jpg you'll find, including having a GT5p signed by Tanner Foust, and a save file for GT4 from 2005 with 97% completion. But in the absense of a real GT game since 4, my eyes were opened up to a LOT of really good racing alternatives, like Project Gotham Racing, Forza, and DiRT/GRID.
Yeah, when they re-release the same thing in 15 years? |

Doesn't matter, the fact that I don't know where my steering wheel is past 30 degrees is beyond annoying and unrealistic. |

Oh christ. Have any of you guys hit level 40 yet? |

Nah, I'm only at level 11. If any of you come across the Volvo 240 GLT, mind trading me one? |

Never thought about getting a screen shot when that comes along. I was laughing the first time I saw that screen, first thing i bought in-game was a kart. dun dun dun!!! *gokart*. oh :\ |
Posted by: MattW Nov 29 2010, 11:24 PM |
I took that picture while doing donuts at SSR5, haha. Also, I did the same thing with buying the kart. :\ |

I hit level 13 tonight. There are a few things that agervate me but only one worth mentioning. I really hate that thud that comes from a rear end crash. The game reminds me if gt3 with more content. Overall I'm pleased. |

I've hit lvl 10, got all but 2 licenses and only 1 test is keeping me from having all silvers so far for IB... |
Posted by: orion Nov 30 2010, 04:04 AM |
i got the game today and have played it for about 6 hours, so far i like it and i dont think there is too much that bothers me, the AI can be annoying at times though. does anyone use a wheel here? i myself use a g25, i really should invest in one of those wheel stands but the cost too much and i cbf making one myself. got both my a and b licenses, although i didnt get the gold license for A, i cant get gold on the cone slalom damn it. i really suck at that sort of driving. and was it just me or was there a 1st gen mazda cosmo in one of the b license races? (the car in my ava) i hope it was so hopefully it can be bought. liking the used car dealer a lot, never played gt4 but it was a feature that i missed in gt3. my psn is boat13 if you want to add me. |

Question: Is it the same takes-long-as-ass licensing system? |
Posted by: MattW Nov 30 2010, 09:14 AM |
Yup. It's so easy though. |
Posted by: chillined Nov 30 2010, 09:18 AM |
The license system is awesome, whatchu talking about? And wtf is up with you and posting on every thread on the first page of the gaming section? EDIT: To clarify, this was at AJ (Midnight Drifter). (I think that's his name..) |
Posted by: MattW Nov 30 2010, 09:30 AM
He does that. Look at the Auto section too, the top, ehhhh, 15 threads at least once a week are all posts from him. |

And if your not happy then, wait another 15 years. @MattW: Saw some noob drifting yesterday with the 240 wagon.......thing looks sick sideways. And the NASCAR wheels you got on your '10 camaro are also on my 69 Camaro....This game is so awsome!! EDIT: Matt, i got a 240... 64,000 km its yours if you want it. |

oh man u guys down to trade some cars? looking to expand my stuff. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Nov 30 2010, 11:21 PM |
Just cuz I was curious, I did a quick comparisson of a Standard car vs a Premium car. The difference is.... well... I guess I wouldn't be proud of the 800 blocky, pixelated-textured Standard models.... *shrugs* At least the premium models that are there look absolutely fantastic. |
Posted by: chillined Nov 30 2010, 11:56 PM |
lmfao, standard models look like f**kin' shit. I can't believe the PD would let that slide. But I guess that's only in closer views. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Dec 1 2010, 12:18 AM |
So uh... I beat that "hard" Top Gear challenge with the VW Bus. Took me about 3 tries. The Intermediate Lotus event is pretty easy too once you learn how to control it, since it likes to slide a lot. |
Posted by: orion Dec 1 2010, 02:55 AM |
been rocking the 61 jag e-type for all the races that are resticted to classic cars and i am suprised that the brits didnt invent drifting cause i was allways more sideways then straight. which specific rx7 model is a premium? i will add it to my 'must get' list |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 06:54 AM
The pattern seems to be anything from a dealership is premium and anything from the used car is standard. It can be had directly from the Mazda dealership. |
Posted by: lance Dec 1 2010, 09:14 AM |
lol i noticed alot of the shadows are jst black boxes |
Posted by: Tessou Dec 1 2010, 10:28 AM
Agreed. They're pulling a Forza here in that they seem to be recycling the previous game's car models to pad numbers. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Dec 1 2010, 11:23 AM
I really wanna punch this guy in face.
Not because of what he's saying about GT5, because some of it is true. But for being a total douchebag. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 11:28 AM
At least the previous Forza title was only 2 years earlier and on the same generation platform. These models are straight from GT4's six-year-old PS2 glory. It's like they weren't even trying. |
Posted by: chillined Dec 1 2010, 11:55 AM |
^ True. It seems like they were just like, eh, we don't wanna model 1000+ cars over again, so we'll just import the older modeling system and the car models and integrate it into the new GT5. That way we'll have 1000+ cars and only 200 or so of them will be premium! Haha, stupid fanboys! What idiots. With the time they had to develop and make GT5 so much better, they failed to make the game that we all wanted. Physics were improved, which is a definite plus, but models are freakin' horrible. How can they positively think they could do this without even altering the previous designs and making lines more vivid and smooth? I mean pixelated f**kin' cars/edges? What year is it, 2000? Seriously... But honestly, they did a GRAND effort on the premium cars, so 800 or so cars of 1000+, I guess we'll just have to suck it up and enjoy older models... I can't believe they didn't even bother to refine the older models. They had more than enough time. And I don't care if it takes a really long time, because the game release DID take a long freakin' time. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 12:03 PM |
I remember reading somewhere that the difinitive tagline for GT5 is pretty much "We waited six years for this?" Not to say it's a bad game by any means, but a game that took more than half a decade to come out shouldn't feel like 10-month rush job. Then again, Too Human was "in development" for even longer, and that game was terrible. lol. |
Posted by: orion Dec 1 2010, 02:06 PM
i really wonder what this guys beef is with sony and grand turismo. did KY run over his dog or something? why go to the effort of making yourself look like an idiot on the internet.i agree with some of what he says, but his opinion is also flawed saying things like the music is bad (which is too subjective and not a valid point really) and that they dont feature the rewind like in forza (well thats forzas idea, what were you expecting GTF5.3?). a possitive with GT5 is i can use my g25 wheel ingame, couldnt do that in forza. at the end of the day i enjoy the game and am glad i bought it, i have gripes about it and it is not perfect, but it is still a very fine and fun game imo. for the record i dont own a 360 and have never played forza, comparing them to someone like me is a but redundant. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 03:36 PM |
^ I will agree though that the lack of a rewind/flashback system is QUITE apparent. There's really not many more frustrating things than being on the last lap of a long race and the idiot AI decided to cut directly into your line and spin you out; making any hope of a gold finish as dented as your car would be if it had real damage. |
Posted by: RalliKai Dec 1 2010, 04:40 PM |
I gave the Vanagon challenge a few solid attempts but just couldn't muster the patients to try to get the gold with it. Has to be the most frustrating challenge I've run into so far. Other then that, I've actually been enjoying the game so far. Have to admit, I still do most of my races through the traditional front facing camera angle rather then through the cockpit view. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 05:23 PM |
Is there any way to universally turn off traction controll for all cars? It seems every time I get a new car TCS is set to 5. |
Posted by: orion Dec 1 2010, 05:36 PM
was wondering the same thing myself, its annoying to change it all the time, and the fact that once you have started a race you cant change it without quiting then having to reload the whole thing shits me. rallikai: if you think the vanagon challange is tough try the lotus one, i dont think there could be any less grip possible |
Posted by: Type R Dec 1 2010, 07:15 PM |
My collector's edition just arrived. The game is alright but what really sucks is the shitty blurry dashboards. I'm using a 26" LG 720p, but from what I've read, some people are actually trying to run their game in 720 rather 1080. Sounds wrong. Don't understand how the premium cars look so bad. I would assume it's the tv if it weren't for prologue running like a champ. Maybe I am missing some options, or something. |
Posted by: MattW Dec 1 2010, 07:45 PM |
FYI, it's not a Vanagon, it's a Microbus. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 1 2010, 11:09 PM
I haven't noticed much about blurry dashboards, but I play at 1080p and notice MASSIVE screen tearing almost all the time. |
Posted by: orion Dec 2 2010, 01:46 AM |
i play at 1080i and i havent had any of those issues, then again i am only running on a 27inch tv, i did get tearing in gt5p though |

Ahahahahaha AutoArt. Awesome. |
Posted by: chillined Dec 2 2010, 11:16 AM
lmfao, nice. At least they went through the process of getting scale models to replicate them. AutoArt is one of the better companies aren't they? I have a R34 Spec V 1/24 model of theirs, and the quality is outstanding. |
Posted by: am3pkcet Dec 2 2010, 11:26 AM |
AutoArt makes some great stuff. I have the http://i837.photobucket.com/albums/zz300/skyline77/untitled1.jpg and an RX-8. Really nice cars and they've got a lot higher build quality than Bburago and Maisto (though, I still like Maisto cuz they have spring suspensions!). Anyway... with that said, it's still another pretty funny corner-cutting measure that's another great example of PD's laziness. |
