Did you ever get it off? I'd attack it with a pry bar, and if that doesn't work, just make sure there aren't any other bolts hiding out in there. Evos have a bracket that attaches the exhaust housing to the block that can be easily missed, and DSMs have a bolt from the downpipe to the block that I myself had issues not finding back in the day. Just worth a double check for you.

I did get the manifold to budge, at which point the turbo wouldn't move. I went up under the car and had apparently forgotten to remove the turbo support bracket bolt, so I got a socket wrench on it and, since there was no room to give it leverage with my hand, used my foot. The bolt proceeded to split my 3/8" drive 10mm socket in half. I then got a 1/2" drive 10mm socket, put it on my breaker bar, and fucked that bolt.

So now the whole thing moves, at which point I discovered that two of the downpipe studs are bent slightly, causing the downpipe to hang up on the exhaust bracket. facepalm.gif Today I go out there and remove the cat-forward exhaust system so I can get the fucking thing out finally.

Fuck I wish I had a car with a nice big engine bay again. I miss the Datsuns and the Maverick...

Tell me about it. The J30A1 is a good engine but fuck if I don't wish I had more room to work with.

Those were fun, the mav was one of the few cars where contortionism wasn't a requirement.
Of course, the head alone probably weighed more than you, kyon, and I combined. Watching the Prius get dropped over an inch from it says it all. Wouldn't suprise me if that head weighed half as much as an entire SR20.

I'll stick to my aluminum heads and small cars with small engines in large engine bays, thanks.

Nothing special for me. 2007 Volvo S80 with the 3.2. Hopefully before the end of the year I'll be trading it on a new car. As of now it's a tossup between the MK7 Golf GTI and the ND Miata. Just debating if I need the extra set of doors.

Welcome to working on old turbo cars... I had all of that kind of fun with my DSM, and I won't lie, I don't really miss those days.

That's a very clean 86 you've got there! Almost makes me rethink the current plans I'm doing to my S13.

Yep, trying to keep it as original as possible. I'm making unseen improvements like certain engine parts to improve performance, and new high performance shocks and struts. Still have to install those. Had to replace the headlights recently so I used new LED ones.

I've been doing some maintenance and some other stuff to the car. My plan is to make this car into a sleeper that will blow away the current M cars and canyon runners. (if i have cash that is :C)

Sorry, but I don't know how to upload pics.

Took it on the track? Don't think I remember seeing a convertible e36 run.

Should've told us you owned a BMW earlier.
One of the companies I do work for is the headline sponsor of Bimmerfest for the past few years wink2.gif

We could've met up.

I finally got my FD running and driving... It's absurdly fast (by my standards) and insanely loud (straight pipe, racing exhaust, and dump pipe, yo).

Still need to get a new seat, belts, an alignment/corner weight, and do the brakes before I can actually take it on the track...

That's awesome! My neighbor recently got his single turbo conversion running, I haven't had a chance for a ride yet but I got to check it out yesterday at Cars and Coffee.

2013 Scion FR-S. Mostly stock with a Perrin 2.5" resonated exhaust and drop in K&N filter. Inside I have a Kenwood DDX470 touch screen/DVD with a 10" JL W3 in the trunk. I did take that pic, but it was when it was new. I haven't seen it that shiny in a while!

I picked it up after driving like an idiot and going too fast around a freeway transition ramp with bald tires in the rain back in January of 2013.

I recently detailed my car again and I honestly don't want to drive it because its so pristine and shiny. So I put it under a wrap! And peek under it daily to make sure that its ok. derp.gif
