Not the longest fic I've ever written, but hopefully it's been worth it. **** Keisuke, Fujiwara and Fumihiro ran toward the two cars, arms raised and victory cries on their lips as they swarmed around the damaged FD. Ryosuke opened his door, cradled the mirror hanging from a single cable in his hands, and gently pulled it free before turning to the others. “Did I win?†he asked softly, holding the mirror in one hand and quickly downing a bottle of water with the other. Keisuke nodded, holding out the stopwatch a member of Project D had handed him. Ryosuke glanced at it carelessly, finished his bottle of water, and placed the mirror on his driver seat before walking over to the scorched yellow NSX. “Yoshiro, are you alright?†Ryosuke asked quietly, tapping on the window. The window slowly ground down until he could look inside and see a pale and shaken face inside, covered in sweat, lit by the dim glow of the overhead lamp. “Maybe. How's the car?†he asked in a faraway voice. “Wheels are trashed, you burned some of your rear bumper cover. I hope you didn't run your engine too lean with that nitrous oxide. It's a good way to ruin your piston rings, Yoshiro. When did you become so careless?†Ryosuke asked, gently scolding his friend. “After Akiko died. No little sister to watch out for, parents in their own world, me with money and nothing to do. I work during the day, do destruction-testing for Honda, but nothing to occupy my nights. I really don't value my life anymore, Ryosuke. Makes it easier to drive like an idiot.†“I noticed,†Ryosuke replied, resting his hands on the door, opening it up and helping a stiff and sore Yoshiro out of the car. “Do me a favor,†Ryosuke said, holding the man by his shoulders. “What?†“Get help. I know a number of people that can provide assistance for you. Akiko would want it that way, and I want it that way. You've been a good friend in the past, you can be a good friend in the future, but you need to be alive to do so.†Keisuke made a face, turning away and walking back to his Starlet. “Too much emotional sugar-laden crap,†he said to Takumi in passing. Fujiwara shrugged his shoulders and turned away as well, leaving the two drivers to their slow reunion. “How'd you pass me?†Yoshiro asked. “I made sure there wasn't enough room for you to get by, but you still squeezed past.†“When they repaired the guardrail where Akiko went through, they didn't straighten the supports again. For a short section, there was more space because the rail leaned out. I sacrificed my mirrors and made it through. When did you install those flamethrowers?†“Where do you think?†Yoshiro chuckled. “I'm tempted. Seems like a lot of interesting things over there,†Ryosuke said. “Different from here. Not better or worse, but different. Do you think it's worth visiting?†“Not really,†Yoshiro said as he traced his fingers over the melted plastic of his rear bumper. “If you want to see American-style tuning, just go run the Wangan line. It's all about big power and big displacement engines. You remember geography, America is a big flat wide open road. They love cornering, and European cars, and a lot of Japanese cars too, but the true American tune is an FR coupe with an engine of at least 5700cc displacement and over three hundred horsepower.†“Sounds brutal,†Ryosuke said, standing there awkwardly for a few moments. “I'm glad you're back,†he said, shaking Yoshiro's hand. “Thanks for caring about me. I know you loved my sister, and it was stupid of me to blame you for it. I know you took care of her when you could, but you weren't her keeper. You weren't supposed to keep her under lock and key. You did as good as you could. Thanks for the race, Ryosuke,†he said, getting back in the NSX and driving off. Ryosuke looked at his FD, sighed as he ran his hand over the broken stump of the passenger mirror, and got inside. “Fumihiro, I'm going home. Don't get into too much trouble,†he said with an attempt at a smile. As the FD rolled forward, he stopped next to Takumi, who was walking back to his car. “Fujiwara,†Ryosuke said slowly, “I'm sorry for the outburst. Those things have been lingering for quite some time. No excuse to take it out on you though.†“I forgive you, but I want to know one thing,†Takumi said, resting his hand on the roof of the Impreza. “What's that?†“What did you talk about with my father?†Takumi asked. The Spirit R's engine roared suddenly, and Ryosuke mouthed a few words before rocketing off. |

That was my guess before the very last update. Now I am itching to find out what was said to Bunta. Anyone care to guess what was said to Bunta? I've always imagined an arrogant american tourist/international student somehow bringing over his American car over and challenging Project D and getting destroyed - but it'd be slightly similar to that horrible movie, Tokyo Drift.

Will that technique be revealed in the future? Or was it revealed in the race with Yoshiro. Thanks again for the fanfic. Good luck with supercharging your Mazda. I drove my roommate's Mazda and it handles nice. |

Tempting, but one of the first rules a writer should never break! Too many Mary Sue's out there who think they can fix everything. Now that's not to say I won't put a Roadster in at some point, but there definitely won't be an SCCA-trained American behind the wheel of it. If I write an original fiction maybe... I'm leaning toward Wangan Midnight crossover. Do enough people here know about it? I'd do it based on the videos that have been released so far rather than the manga, because the software blockers on my laptop won't let me download the manga.

I know of it, but it's nowhere near as good as Initial D IMHO. Still, do what you want to do - you've got the chops to make it work no matter what you're writing.

I think a Wangan Midnight crossover would be good. The cars are heavily modified, and you have extensive knowledge regarding modifications. Your fics already feel like Initial D with an added touch of Wangan Midnight anyway (mostly the cars almost overthrowing the characters themselves as the stars), and the added touch of Wangan Midnight just makes the story better. Plus, it'd be nice to see Takumi apply his spatial awareness to the expressways (crashes/spin-outs are common, someone has to avoid them)

IDW Senior Member Group: Members Posts: 79 Member No.: 27,036 Joined: Oct 14th 2007 Location: PHIL-USA | Yeah... I wonder what did Ryosuke tell Bunta before so that Takumi can go driving the AE86 to practice with him before the race against the Grim Reaper... Maybe he said... "Please continue training Takumi on the Impreza... on the other hand, may I ask the good favor from you to let him practice racing with me on the AE86... since he is more familiar with the AE86 than any other car, he will be a tough adversary for me with him using it, besides I myself will have to familiarize even further with my new FD Spirit R 20B-REW car... When he ripens his training with the Impreza, maybe we can let him race with it on all of Project D's expeditions as well... When that time does come, we can choose from these two cars depending on the type of opponent and their home course... For now, training him with the Impreza will allow him to adapt and learn driving skills with a car of more power and handling capablity... With a then, two-car-adaptable-driver like Takumi... Project D may become more cunning in its upcoming races... as we all know... the AE86 will soon reach it's absolute limit, let alone the defiance it had with Hayato's AW11... there are more cars and more courses that may require better cars for Takumi, whose skill is quite bottled up with his intensive attachment to the AE86... Allow us to help you out in his further growth as a racer... Touge Racing isn't always balance... sometimes there's still a need for power, better handling, and high-tech devices that the AE86 doesn't literally have..." * And what's this possibility of the Wangan Line for an Initial D Cameo... Lot's of open ended sections for a fanfic... This should continue further and make a good show... But too much Wangan cameo, can kill the essence of Initial D... Touge Racing... |

Hakone... Yes!!! Lots of corners... when I play Battle Gear 3 Super Dreadnaught-B, which is similar to Initial D and is similar to WMMT Hakone Course... Go Initial D Wangan Midnight Cameo... But what about the statement of American Tuning similar to the horsepower outputs of cars used in the Wangan... Zoiks! quite difficult to race in corners with 820hp on the wheels!!!
