Feint "Drift"
Technically speaking, it is not possible to actually drift in Initial D Arcade Stage. However you can follow the feint motion to achieve higher exit speeds and more fluent turning.
The feint was introduced in version 1 and fully utilized by Akina Master Extra HC. The basic concept is still out-in-out except that before approaching the turn from the outside and staying out the whole time, you start on the inside.
Figure a1:
1) Approach the turn from the inside lane
2) Swing the car to the outside
3) Turn the car inside.
To follow these steps, one should know the timing of the turn back outside, roughly 50-100m depending on the turn. It is important to keep everything else constant meaning normal out-in-out braking at the same time you normally would without feint. This is the biggest problem for people first starting to use this technique, they forget to slow down. If you don't have full understanding and control of out-in-out line, it is not recommended that you try feint yet.
Another advantage of following the feint line is that it effectively prevents understeer. Sometimes if the wheels on the machine are not good, they'll shake while your car appears to be going straight, this might cause sudden movements before a corner causing the car to not turn at all for the corner. Feinting keeps most of the car's movements in your control so that understeer will not occur.

When should i start braking or letting go of acceleration?

Posted by: Midnight_Driver Apr 30 2007, 10:29 AM
If you erased while doing this would it help you gain more speed exiting the turn? could you even erase doing the Feint

in general, about 1 second before the turn...when you get better you can judge how early or how late you can brake to obtain ideal exit speeds...

thats pretty much TST.....

Eraser + Feint + Eraser = TST!!!!

i was watching some videos i have in my pc these past few days, and i was thinking that "if some of them were able to pull off 2'22's on akagi dh and 259's on iroha dh with no eraser, i think i'm still not good at this game"...

i admit, my times are very slow (though some locals say they're fast enough) but at the moment (my times are in my sig, just click the IR links there, some of them aren't my runs though meaning i lent them the cards for them to use) that's the best i can squeeze out of them (i do eraser for most hairpins but i don't do TST)... so as of late, i'm considering constraining myself to use no other tech but feint, maybe i'll be able to find better lines if i undergo that regimen whenever i play...

which cars are best suited for this task?... and for those who have undergone this system before, is it worth the effort?

i didn't want to make a new topic since it might just get axed and i might get warned, so i had to post my concern here...

thanks in advance... ^ ^

Try it with a Cappuccino or a Trueno. IMO those cars respond quite well to simple feinting and braking. thumbsup.gif

before you turn to the outside lane?

feinting is almost like doing the usual out-in-out line, except you approach on the inside lane and finish the feint motion (moving to the outside) just before you start braking.

do i have to actually brake or can i just ungas?

Posted by: icedagger Jul 18 2007, 08:04 PM
Depends on the turn. Some turns can be taken with a feint and an ungas, But most of them (like in Iro for instance) will require braking.

what's the difference when you do TST? ermm2.gif

Posted by: icedagger Jul 18 2007, 08:50 PM
TST is basically erasing in before feinting and erasing in again. With TST you'll have to start your feint a bit earlier than usual because your car will understeer the feint motion.

At akina do i have to brake or just ungas.and there is some video i`ve seen.he`s very fast at akina.i tried his/her technique but still.

im still not sure how to do that!! T_T

if you don`t understand how to reconize the 50-100 m to do feint, just see a signboard when play.you all see when you play

For corners like the first one in akina dh do you brake while gasing or should you use your right foot to brake and do only one at a time?

Posted by: icedagger Feb 23 2008, 07:58 AM
Don't brake while stepping on the gas. If you need to brake, release the gas pedal and hit the brake. You can do the braking with your right foot, although many people use their left foot so that they can step back on the gas right away if they need to.

Oh and you don't need to brake for the "first corner". You can take it full gas.

The "first hairpin" is a different story however. To do a proper feint on that hairpin, look for a yellow sign on the left. Approach on the inside, then finish your feint motion as you pass the sign. Off gas and hit the brakes until you've slowed down enough, then release the brakes and "float" the car through into the turn. Hit the gas at the apex, and enjoy your easy 138km/h exit speed with your Trueno.

what about the first hairpin on Akina uphill?

I'm not so clear on how Wheel Jerk Ties into this.

Can I get a formal explanation? I think I'm doing it wrong.

Any video tutorials of this technique and other techniques as well? I am a visual learner blink.gif

go to youtube and type in "initial d guide"

You should found a wheel jerk guide vid.

although it seems easy to do but its not that easy...timing,steering control, braking timing n accel back timing is very important...if not, fastest speed n lining cant be perform well...

Thanks Jae, I will go and check it out!

I've been doing that for Irohazaka but I shift down from 4th gear to 3rd gear before I do the feint. Then after the hairpin, I shift up until the speedometer says that my speed is 84 and up.

I think I'm still a beginner even though I've already conquered most of the maps there except Happo, Akina, Akina [Snow], and Tsuchisaka.
