copied from the TGS thread:

i hate to dissapoint much here, but it looks, plays, and feels virtually identical to GT4. it felt as if i was playing gt4 in high def with some new cars. the interface that was shown is flashier and prettier, but the game plays identically.

the new in-car dash and guages view is kind of neat, but looked like crap up close (looked great standing in line). for some reason, also, the game looked terrible on the 1080p screens it was being dsplayed on. there were loads of artifacts, and what looked like jpeg compression. it gave the game a very awkard old-arcade-game feel to it rather than some flashy technological feat. also, it would be interesting to note that very few of the cars actually HAD modeled intetiors. the only ones i saw were the audi R8, ferrari f430, and skyline R33. i even saw people cycling through the views to find it, only to find out it didnt have one. hopefully in the final release ALL cars will have interiors. or else thats just lame. (though its surprising that, with only 16 or 20 something cars for a f**king game show, they could all have interiors, AMIRITE?

for a game that people are saying that this game will be their killer app for the ps3, and the sole reason for getting a ps3. yes, the new features will be nice; most noteably online play; and the game will be better than GT4.... but not by much. its basically a car list upgrade and online play. i would buy it in a heartbeat if i had a ps3, but its not worth buying a ps3 for, IMO.

Yes, I did read your review about it, and I'm still going to get that game. Why? Because most likely the game at TGS was restricted version of the GT5 PROLOGUE, and not actual GT5. So hush now and let me go back to my full HD arcade dream. dry.gif

well let me put it like this. i own a copy of GT4 prologue for PS2, which came out much earlier than GT4 in either japan or the states. the game was supposed to be a full fledged demonstration of the new engine, cars, and features. it runs on final build physics and the only things missing are more cars/tracks and the ability to save. with this in mind, other than additional features, this prologue will not differ at all from the final game (at least in the way it plays, and probably in the way it looks too). since the interlacing issues present in GT4 prologue made it full well into the final release, it doesnt make me think that they will make the graphics look any better in GT5 (it looks like they are currently taking a 720p image and stretching it to 1080 rather than just rendering it in 1080 to begin with).

as i said in my post, if i had a ps3 i would buy the game. but it is NOT worth buying a ps3 for this game. as it is essentially a roster update for GT4.

That is only your opinion about non-finished project. KY and PD can say anything they want, and still, they can change the game as much as they want to before the release. Thus we can't say a thing for sure before we have the actual game content on our consoles.

Damn, that sucks. Was there any damage modeling in the demo that you played (at least on race cars)? No matter how fake it is, I'm still pretty impressed that Forza2 has damage, it would suck if GT5 doesn't.

The PS3 is probably not capable of rendering that many cars at 1080p in real time, the RSX gpu they use is just a 7900GTX, a 8800GTX is probably needed to do 1080p. But 720p should still look very good anyways.

oh im sure its fine. im just saying one of the big selling features of ps3 was "full 1080p games" and its funny that most of the games cant even render in 1080.

anyway, no, there was absolutely no damage modeling; and cars still bounced off walls and eachother. also, when all cars were on screen in the beginning of the replay there was significant slowdown (somewhere between 15 and 20fps it seemed).

They didn't fix the moronic AI either? Disappointing indeed, considering that it was my biggest beef with the GT series. I can forgive everything else, but when the computer doesn't seem to know you exist and tries to plow right through you in order to maintain his "ideal" racing line, it almost ruins the experience.

Thanks for the info. Man, sucks about the lack of damage modeling, I wish they would copy Colin McRae: Dirt's damage model, it was still fun but it make you drive more carefully; and hopefully they would optimize the game more so it doesn't drop to 15-25fps when all the cars are on the screen.

after playing forza 2 its hard to go back to gt series sad to say i played the gt5 demo and it was not that cool sure it did look better but felt just like gt4 and still the cars take corners like only a video game car could so its not really a real driving simulator if you have both the ps3 and the box lol i say you probably have more fun with pgr4
