Initial D World - Discussion Board / Forums > Version 1 & 2 General Discussion > Frequently Asked Questions

Posted by: Kev Jan 10 2004, 10:56 PM
Here are some frequently asked questions.

What does an Initial D card do?
An Initial D card is the equivalent to a PS2 Memory Card. This saves your car's data, time trial runs, racer level, ect. CAUTION: bending, keeping in a hot climate, or getting moisture on the card may lose your card's data pernamently.

How do you get an Initial D card?
To get an Initial D card, at the begining of the game, after you insert your money, the machine will ask you to insert your Initial D card. Press start. If you are playing Version One, the game will explain to you what an Initial D card does. If you are playing Version Two, this screen is skipped. After, the machine will ask you if you want to buy an Initial D card. Insert the money needed, and a notice will come up saying "Card Purchased." At this point, choose the car you want, insert your name, and choose the tune you want.

What's the best car in the game?
The best car in Version One is the Rx-7 FD3S Type R. However, in Version Two, for the first three courses, (Myogi, Usui, and Akagi) the number one spot is held closely between the FD Type R and the FD Spirit R. It is believed however that overall the Spirit R is better. For the last there maps of Version Two, (Akina, Happougahara, and Irohazaka) the Integra Type R (DC2) is the best car.

Do you get the Group A AE101 new engine for the 86 Treuno?
For certain, with any of the regular tunes, yes you can get the new engine. It is not for certain that you will get the new engine with normal tune. If you would like to try it and find out, that would be a lot of help to us.

Do you get the Misfiring System with the LanEvoIII?
If you choose Tune A, yes

What does the Misfiring System do?
It makes a big exploding sound every time you take a turn. Performance wise, nothing.

What is card renewing?
Card renewals happen every 50 plays. This is when you have to "renew" your card. Pretty much the jist of it is that you have to pay for another card if you would like to keep the data on your card.

What happens during card renewal?
During card renewal, your original card's data gets transferred to another card. No data is lost during this process. In Version Two, you can choose to change Tunes if you like.

What do the different tunes do?
Different tunes don't do very much. It is to make your car look cool. All the car's performance are the same. It also changes your driving style (drift VS grip) but your overall time stays the same. Some cars are an exception. The LanEvoIII for example. In Tune A of the LanEvoIII, you get a Misfiring System.

Does Racer Level do anything?
No

Can I get Bunta's car?
Bunta's STi is a secret car, but yes you can get it. When you are in the manufacturer screen, press the following.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, while holding the brakes and press the view button.

What's a Buntamobile?
Buntamobile is the nickname given to Bunta's WRX STi.

What's up with the teams?
The teams are a way of promoting more battles. When they are created, people from different teams will be able to race each other. It is a way of promoting races. Check out the battle thread https://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=2917

How do you race Bunta or Takumi on Irohazaka in Arcade Mode?
In order to race Takumi on Irohazaka, you need to beat EVERYONE in arcade mode first. If you want to race Bunta in Arcade mode, you need to beat Takumi on Irohazaka.

What do gutters do?
Gutters are located on Akina and Akagi. The gutters on Akina you can use to take the turn faster. You can use two different techniques. You can slow down a bit and take the inside the whole way out. The second way is to turn in early and slingshot out of the turn. I'm very busy right now so i'll just edit this later. The gutters on Akagi are just there, they dont do anything.

Why are the best cars in the game the best cars in the game?
Originally posted by Kengai_rcrZero - The 1st version of Initial D was actually supposed to be set to go along with the anime/manga story. BUT, since the creators and tokyocrap couldn't afford to put the game out worldwide on their own budget, they had to have a sponsor. For ver.1, the sponsor was Mazda. Therefore, the RX-7 was placed the top car. And because the makers actually wanted the to make the game more storylike, the 86 was placed 2nd.

Now ver.2 on the other hand, was not set to come out until the end of the year 2003. The actual date for arrival in the US for that game was October 12th 2003. BUT, since Honda volunteered to sponsor the game, ONLY on the basis that the creators would set one of Honda's cars to be the top model in the game, would the game arrive as early as possible in North America. So, the creators agreed to Honda's(Honda Motor Company) terms and they all took a vote on which car was to be set the Ichiban car. So, the Integra won, BUT it only won by 1 vote against the S2000. So there you have it, the reasons on why the game is the way it is. I guess in a way you could say this is better for us, since we did get an early version of the game. I mean, we're still having fun right? Even though the game could be set a BETTER way, we're still improving. So, good luck to all of you that play ver.1, 2, and 3. And pray that we get a next version. If any of you are wondering how I know all this, go to your local ID machine and read the sticker on the lower side of the upper body of the machine. It'll most likely be on the outer side where the ver.2 sticker is. Read it, and you'll see. That goes for ver.2 and 1. I Drove all the way to Golf n' Stuff because of the cabinets they have, they're still the ver.1 cabinets and they still have the ver.1 stickers and all that, but the game's a ver.2. I read Mazda Motor Company on the sticker, right after I read the Honda sticker on the ver.2 machine. And it all made sense, plus doing a bit of online research doesn't hurt. Well, I hope this explains a lot to all of you, and maybe you can all understand the company's reasons.

If you have any other questions, feel free to post. Also, many FAQs are already up on game faqs http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/game/15501.html. (Thanks Isolator_FC!)

Hey guys,
I didn't know where I should post this, but since it's something that would probably help out with Frequently Asked Questions, I figured I should post it on this thread.

I think that it'd be a good idea to provide a link to the GameFAQs Initial D guides either in this FAQ, or in another stickied thread. It'd definitely help answer the more redundant questions that are flying around.

I know that a lot of the new users have been neglecting to read the FAQ, but it never hurts to try, right? grin2.gif

Anyway, here's the link -
http://www.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/game/15501.html
(Credit for inspiration of this idea goes to Lan Evo IV, because I've seen him post it up a couple of times and figured, heck, why not sticky it?)

Could someone please explain this "Card bugs" thing? Its really bugging me.

Posted by: Kev Feb 26 2004, 04:54 PM
There used to be a bug with the Initial D cards where you could get 999999999 (i dunno how many 9s) points on your car. dont even try it.

To Isolator FC, thanks, ill do that!

What do those random ECU Resets do?

Posted by: darthchilli Mar 1 2004, 09:07 AM
ECU resets basically is getting a new computer for u car
which makes it go faster
every ECU upgrade..ur car should be faster

Your wrong, the Ecu reset basiclly reset(recaliper) the electronics so the engine doesn't do something wrong and blow up(thats real life) but in the game it just resets and it doesn't do nothing, same with coolant change, oil change, anything that you get before Full tune.

Posted by: darthchilli Mar 4 2004, 11:34 PM
i shall add to this FAQ
Correction 1
Evo3 misfiring system causes ur car to understeer more
tune parts make a difference. THe best mix for v2 on a DC2 according to HK(i have tested this myself) is a Ctune base with Btune Mugen wing and a Dtune CF hood. Handling is quite good. but it is a little too loose for my liking

Correction/Input
You get the Engine anyways on normal tune becuz at 120,000 pts. you get it

the bug was only in ver2 japanese

The thing u call gutters on akagi actually DO have a purpose..a tighter line that can make a or break a Time Attack Time. gutters on akina really just allows u to grab a better line..the slingshooting out of the turn..i uno..i guess its right..i cant describe how it feels...lol..all i kno is that in BG3..THe gutters on AKINA are VERY important to a fast time

But the big correction should be that TUNES DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Posted by: Benji Mar 5 2004, 12:08 AM
Chilli, the bug is also in Ver. 3, i've seen it alot. But only from Jap V. 2 to Jap V. 3.

Your right about the gutters... They work really well (note, i knew that before you posted). It's awesome in a battle, you pass them on the inside of the last hairpins on Akagi with boost on. Their faces just turn into shock when they lose concentration and smach into a wall and you take the win.

Posted by: blues_w Mar 25 2004, 12:02 PM
do battle levels make a difference? (it's said that racer levels don't... what about battle?)

Posted by: Kev Mar 25 2004, 03:10 PM
In a sense, yes. If you really like having an aura and such or you wanna show how skilled you are by having a rainbow aura, then yse, but it doesnt affect your driving.

This isnt a game you buy. Its called "Arcade Stage" for a reason. Its a game that you go to the arcade and play. If you want the home version (which i own, and IMO isnt as fun since you cant battle other people) you can go buy Initial D Special Stage

go http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/machines/driving-riding_games/Initial_D'_Arcade_Stage_Version_3_3666.html

How did u even find this site without knowing wat id is? blink.gif

Take a drive on the wild side with some of the most intense head to head racing you'll ever see. Take to the road in climactic high-speed duels.

Released in 2002 for the european market as single sit down cabinet linkable up to 2 players. Initial D is a “one on one” race game taken place on a mountain course. Based around the characters from a famous comic strip, the player’s goal is to beat the rival and become the legendary fastest driver. Initial D also has the revolutionary card system to support the players to enjoy the game wherever they left off.

The game is powered by Sega’s powerfully impressive Naomi 2 board, which brings unparalleled graphic reality to the game and allows players to experience a real sense of speed and acceleration. Players have a choice of 3 game modes and 4 courses:

1.Legendary Fastest Driver.
This is a 1-player story time mode. In this mode you will try to become the fastest driver of the 4 mountains. Each mountain has different computer rivals that are based on the story from the comic book.

2.Time Attack
The player can practise without any competition to achieve their fastest lap. These fastest lap times can then be downloaded onto an Internet ranking site.

3.Link Battle
This is a one on one competition with your friends.

The unique Card System allows players to build a totally unique custom tuned car that is personal to them. This information is then stored on a paper credit card with a magnetic strip similar to those issued at car parks. They have a choice of car manufacturer, car colours, sponsor and parts to tune the car. Each time they race the car the player accumulates competition points which allows them to add new parts and tune the car, allowing you to improve your performance in each level without having to drop back a level.

I apoligize if this has been asked elsewhere, but is the Arcade Stage machine avaliable in the U.S., and if so, is there any sort of location guide as to where they are? I'm in St. Louis, MO, so if anyone happens to know of one nearby, that would be great as well. Thanks for your time everyone.

[

from my experience, u cannot change your option during card renewal if u accept chellenge. some of you might know this, but i just want to post this. reasons... i tried to change my option 3 times!!!!!! datz like 150 plays just to change option sad.gif

Posted by: V0|t May 10 2004, 06:34 AM
i think your right, cuz last time i transfered,my Fc to a new card i couldn't pick a new option(not i was going to lmao) and i had accpet challenges on,but then when i had to transfer myFd3s Type R,i could and i had it off...so yea what ever...

Posted by: Saito May 11 2004, 01:37 AM
yeah thats right...it happened to me as well.....from what i think...it wont let coz your about to change options to ur car...so when u battle....all your parts will be gone (depending if you are gonna pick a different option from wat u had).

And if you had the challenges off...you normally start a new game in a course and with every win...you get the new parts onto ur car...(am i making sense?)

Posted by: Taiki May 11 2004, 02:16 AM
yes u r making sense. basically u lose all body kits after inspection (if u decide to choose another option), its like having a new car, but you have the oil and + upgrades, just not the body kits. btw wah happen if you change ur option wen u hab below 120k points (bcoz of four courses). do u have to earn points to reach basic tune??? or they just give you it to you since you got the oil and + upgrade???

Posted by: Saito May 11 2004, 02:26 AM
well...it doesnt matter how much points you have....you just end up getting the parts in every race you do until you reach full tune...youwont get those ecu resets and engine oil upgrades no more....you still have your full tune....so reaching basic tune wont change anything...

Posted by: MagjickFingers May 17 2004, 06:56 AM

trust me i thought it would be good, it's not

I would never bad talk ID anything unless it was really REALLY bad

Posted by: Jin May 24 2004, 02:55 PM
err the best car for TA is Integra (happo, iro, all courses)
FD (akagi)
R32/34(myogi)
Sileigthy/180 (usui)

Best battle car is GC8V in most cases, on iro, the Gc8v will outstart the dc2 and if the driver is good enough, can block all the way
some on happo

Posted by: Taiki May 26 2004, 06:51 AM

I've been wondering this for awhile now ever since i barely beat this noob up on Irohazaka....
Is it possabile to TIE in a Human to human race, and can you TIE in a AI racer and human racer..?

Posted by: babba-r32 May 27 2004, 12:26 PM
I dont think you can tie a race. And if you can what are the possibilities?

Volt, what kind of car was that noob driving since you barely won?

Posted by: [ Mizerok ] May 27 2004, 05:04 PM
By the way... the last time I checked, the RS usually stands for "RALLY SPORT". Although, most cars with this on it are not rally ready... so don't go all crazy and stuff.

Posted by: V0|t May 29 2004, 05:58 PM

Can some 1 explain the Bunta Challenge to me cause i dont get how to get stars printed onto my cards i have beaten bunta quite a bit considering a lot of people in my arcade ask me this cause im the farthest.

Posted by: Kev Aug 2 2004, 08:40 AM
Stars do not appear on your card for Bunta Challenge. The stars appear from a combination of Bunta Challenge and LotS. Beat the two (which is impossible because of Bunta on Akina) and you'll have full stars. Beating LotS again will give you more stars.

Posted by: Knee Grow Aug 2 2004, 11:20 AM
Actually, you CAN get stars from Bunta Challenge with out even touching LOTS! I explained this once before in another tread. Four every one Bunta level you get on each course you get a racer level up. You can do this for up to a total of 10 stars!!!! I have all 30 on my EVO 4 so I kow what I'm talking about on this one.

Posted by: DriftinDragN Aug 7 2004, 09:52 AM
HEHE few more question i swear it then no more noobie questions do you get boody kit (Front spolier ect.) part changes cause i havn'y gotten 1 and i been woundering if i have 2 switch at the inspection thx alot. Also do u get part changes during the N-Tune. Last question if i choose tune-A FD then switch to a tune-B FD will i get the tune a engine the twin turbos thxs.

Posted by: Kev Aug 7 2004, 10:16 AM
After basic tune (120k) every 2 or 3 plays, the game will ask you if you would like "PART CHANGE." This means you can buy parts from different tunes.

Not sure if you get parts for Normal Tune, never tried getting it.

If you have A tune FD and change to B tune, you get to keep the twin turbo.

Posted by: u4orceme2fuku Oct 5 2004, 07:03 PM
i read this from 2 different threads but i dont understand it completely
when ur plays goto 0 u have card renewal thing
and in v2 u can choose to have tune change if you refuse challengers

the thing is, that i heard if you change from say Tune A to Tune C, some parts are kept

Like i wanna know, for my DC2, rite now its Tune A so it has the turbo kit.
If i changed it to Tune C during the card renewal thing
will my dc2 still have the turbo kit?
and can also get the acceleration kit of the Tune C eventually?

if this is true, so it is possible for a dc2 to go thru Tune A-D to get all the kits rite?

Posted by: ______________ Oct 6 2004, 02:06 AM
You get to keep the turbo if you are originally tune A and swittch to other tunes BUT if you have another tune and you switch to Tune A you will not get it. This applies to all cars (ex.Trueno Tune A you get the engine and switch to D you will stil have the engine BUT Tune D to A you keep the turbo.)

BTW: there are NO ACELLERATION KITS ON THE DC2! THERE IS ONLY THE TURBO KIT. THE OTHERS ARE NA.

Posted by: u4orceme2fuku Oct 6 2004, 11:22 AM
oh.. then whats that special thing for the Tune C integra? or is it just the best at acceleration cuz of its parts?

Posted by: [ Mizerok ] Oct 6 2004, 05:54 PM
The special thing is not in the C tune, it's in the A Tune. At somewhere around 125,000 points you get an "upgraded turbo". Which translates to SLIGHT acceleration changes. So slight that it's almost not noticable at all.

It's not a scam at all, think about it: Some little kid wants to buy a version 3 card and tries to order only one of them? This place is probably a wholesale dealer, not retail. So if you're a big company, are you going to only going to sell your products in ones and twos when you have people that want to buy them in cases of 500 or so? You do the math, you have to look at it from the P.O.V of the person who is going to make the money.

if you finish the first ten bunta level's on all the tracks, you get ten stars only.
LoTs gets you one per stage beaten then after the first time you beat it, you have to beat it completely again for another one, then a thrid time to get the thrid and finally star....then you have to battle to get the finally one's,if you say your at 26 stars with only one lot done and only at 26.... i say....you need one more star after lots is completely FINISHED....but i call bs on you being at 26....with only a lvl 23 battle level....but whatever....
Just finsih off LOT and battle and win... and Gungrats if you get the 30! ^-^

Posted by: stuykid89 Jul 18 2006, 03:12 PM

Can I get Bunta's car?
Bunta's STi is a secret car, but yes you can get it. When you are in the manufacturer screen, press the following.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down, while holding the brakes and press the view button.

Does this code work for Ver 1 and 2 or does it vary from one version to another ?

and im reading it as brakes first, then the up-down sequence, and then the view button, is that the right order ?

Posted by: Kev Aug 9 2006, 12:00 PM
Version 2 only. Version 1 does not have it, and the code for Version 3 is different. The order you stated should be right. It's been so long since I played.

I tried this at my arcade and i didn't unlock it, i tried it a few times, making sure i had it what sounded right, but still nothing

I'll be heading back to my arcade around November and i was wondering if anyone could precisely tell me the sequence i do the code in before then

Like for example, when the code says up, do i just move the shifter up or do i upshift in which i would pull the shifter down ?

So could someone tell me in detail the exact order i do everything and if i have to do it quickly or not, if its not too much to ask smile.gif

FD is the newest body style of Mazda RX7 that has Triangle headlights. Don't get confused in V2 and V3 with the 2 FDs though. There is a Type R [old FD] and a Spirit R [new FD]. Performance on the 2 is apparently about even. Also, while I am talking about RX7s, there is also an FC which is the body style with square headlights.

ummm... FD is undoubtably best car in V1. FD is mostly best car on 1st half of courses in V2 and DC2 dominates 2nd half of courses in V2.

~The car is available in V2 and V3 and the two require different codes. The one butchered above is supposed to be for V2. The real one is:
~Highlight Subaru, shift down, shift down, shift up, shift up, shift down, shift up, shift down, shift up. Then hold brakes and press view change.
~A new Impreza will appear on the list if done correctly. I hate to sound smug, but this IS right. I just bought a GC8V and realized everyone thinks the speed is all to the credit of the car so I am getting an NA8C [1st miata] I think. Try not to remember the code not as I wrote it, but as a rhthym. Also, you must remember that upshifting is pulling towards you and doownshifting is pushing away from you.
~And no, I do NOT know the V3 code!

Posted by: Kurei Sep 14 2006, 04:24 PM
Ok, so i had it wrong cause the code on the first page is butchered, but thanks for clearing that up

And dont worry, i know how sequential shifters work, lol

and just to make sure i have it ABSOLUTLY right, do i just highlight "Subaru" or do i go into the menu ?

Im kind of noob at this code thing ermm2.gif , but i can drive in the game fine happy.gif

uhm, i'm new, so how do you know what's specifically tuned different when you choose your tuning type?
and do the initial d card for version 1/2 work for version 3 as well? because i'm going to start playing now and i don't wanna waste my money buying a card for each version. sorry for the simple questions.

Posted by: brina&kyla Jul 15 2007, 07:38 AM
You have to transfer the data of your V2 card to the V3... And as for your V1 card, if you also want to transfer it to V3, you might have to go through transferring it to V2 before transferring it to V3... I think you'll get more than a hundred plays from the V1 card...

The only data you will lose in transfer is the LOTS progress, Tuning Setup (points will be kept and can be used to re-tune), Levels (Battle and Racer), TA Times... some other i forgot

Insignificant question, but...

I played V2 a while ago during a stopover. The thing was a new experience in itself, seeing Iro was the "hardest" course available since the machine had no cards. What I'd like to ask though.

What kind of speeds should you push down Akina's corners in a Spirit? I thought I'd be able to tackle Takumi ala V3 style, but he ended up keeping an ungodly speed throughout the whole course. Slowing down to 115 seemed too slow, and any faster got me a wall tap on the outside.
