That's one of the holy grails of Gradius Collectors. I've never seen one go online let alone as part of a complete set of, well, everything. They're not that expensive compared to some real gems (like the gold cartridge Nintendo World Championship that's worth around what a Toyota FRS is) I have a lot of rare Gradius stuff including an unopened, mint condition copy of Gradius II from 1988 for Famicom and a contest won DVD + T shirt that was supposedly only given out to 40 people (I won them). But to be able to get ArchiMENdes in this region would be insane. This post has been edited by JKaiba on Jul 10 2012, 06:36 AM |

J, are you saying this collection on gaming memorabilia is larger than yours? And Möbius, are you saying that its already sold? This collection its mind boggling. I had to hold my phone a good ten inches away from my face to avoid headbutting it from the sheer awesomeness. I wonder what this guy does for a living of most the games he has are still factory sealed. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

This collection seems to have been assembled for the sake of completion. My roomate and I really collect either specific interest titles or if something's just plain rare. |

I meant the value once the buyer received it. Are they continuing to keep all that stuff wrapped up collecting dust, or tearing into the cases and playing the rarities? My bet is on the latter.

My bet is on the former. Collectors on this level are a bit weird that way ( buying 50 or more of the same game, all sealed, to keep the best copy only? ). However, these games will not be "collecting dust" in a literal sense. Most likely they will be kept in a dark, cool and clean room in order to maintain their condition. And the value of a collection such as this one is always what a buyer is willing to pay for it. Is 1 million Euros a fair price? How would one value it? Original value of everything included, inflated to match? Not a very realistic figure. If no one wanted it, it would not have sold for that price. Heck, the buyer might be able to turn around and sell it for more ( although I have a feeling that the deal was prearranged outside of eBay, then posted up for publicity's sake ).

I'm sure he has a few extra copies of Earthbound for the SNES or Phantasy Star Online for the GameCube. I would have been all over that. Shoot, if he has Mother 3 for the GBA then I would have jumped on it. If only they were single item sales... You wouldn't want to pay extra for a sealed copy anyway, and it is highly unlikely he had any.

Very true, the 'never opened' crap that they try to pull is just to boost the prices to outrageous levels. But I have been looking for those games for years at swap meets and various street vendors. I'm a game collector, but the thrill of the hunt is wearing itself out. I just want those games in my hands now. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

If any comparison can be drawn to record collecting, I can understand it. I'm a tight budget person, though, so I rarely fork over the cash for new/sealed items. The only sealed stuff I have are some recent LPs I got for under a dollar each at my local record store (bought two of each, one to keep sealed and one to play, because they were so cheap.) I also have two copies of an album that's been out of print since 1983, both of them sealed. I splurged a bit on those since they were so cool, and to think that not one but TWO still-sealed copies still exist was too tempting.

I'm debating wheather I should just buy a PC controller and emulate it or buy a cheap PSX and games. |
