I've had this mouse since 4/24/09 and had no issues whatsoever. Got it for gaming and such and it was cheap at the time. Recently noticed that the left button was giving me some issues. Decided to take a peek inside and since the only site that had some teardown no longer has the pics hosted I decided I may as well. Here is the mouse just sitting there. Nothing done so far. Firstly you need to remove the side option - whether it's the blank or one of the extra button sets. Do so by pressing the square button underneath the mouse. Here you can see the underside of the mouse with the option release button at the top left. Once the option is removed there is a single screw holding the mouse together. Remove the glide area on the far left of this pic. Once the glide area is removed you'll see the screw. Standard philips screw. Once that screw is removed just lift the top and get to the innards of the mouse. There are some tabs under the left/right buttons so lift and pull back a little. You'll probably have some resistance as the top has a notch or two that goes into the piping around the mouse. Next take the fiber optic wire out of the rubber piping carefully as it's kinda flimsy. If you remove it from the light source (cathode/led?) then you'll have to fit it back in. Once that is out remove the piping. It has some slots to secure it to the bottom half of the mouse so do so carefully and try not to damage the fiber here as well. Once that is out you can do whatever you want. Lift out the innards and clean it out as you please. The scroll wheel can be taken apart as well. In the bottom half there is a small button which can fall out. Be careful with that. In my case I needed to change the left button. Took it from out of an old Labtec mouse. After replacing it works fine. As you may know, the Habu is a rebranded Razer mouse. Good for gaming and such, but no idea why the button started giving me issues. Would still work for gaming and such, but I realize it was double/triple clicking sometimes when in Windows - didn't notice it much during games. this should be somewhat similar for the other rats - but be careful of the fiber optic wire and be careful what you change. Check to see if it's the same size/rating before you do, and remember that the Habu is a laser mouse so don't try to swap out the optics. Click the links for larger pics and try not to brick your mouse Oh and for those who want to see exactly how the button works - some pics. You could try a little sandpaper after taking it apart to get the sections level again, but do so at your own risk. Better to change the button IMO unless you can't help it at all.
