In order to Burn and Play PS2 Torrents you first need to get a program called http://shop.alcohol-soft.com/go_dl.php <This Is only a Trial. To get the Full Version go to http://www.Suprnova.org

How To Burn PS2 Games
1.After you have gotten the program and have installed Alcohol 120%, open up the program.

2.Select "Image Burning Wizard". Browse to find the Image files that you have downloaded. This can be a number of different file types since Alcohol 120% supports all Image burning file formats.

3.After selecting the file ".mds" file it will bring you to a refreshed screen, click next. 4. Depending if it is a DVD image or a CD image, choose 4xfor CD Image or 2x for DVD Image. It is very important you choose those burning speeds no matter how fast you can burn. PS2's cant read CD or DVD's that well at the wrong speeds. Click Next.

5. Select Raw DAO, which means "Disc-At-Once".

6.Insert the CD-R or DVD-R. Many Modded PS2's including mine cant read CD or DVD +R. Use -R always.

7.Click next and the Image will start burning to your DVD or CD.

shouldnt this be in playstation section?

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 6 2004, 07:43 AM
No because we get people who ask stupid questions like this here because alot of people download PS2 games through BitTorrent now. Plus we don't have a computer tech support section.

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 6 2004, 07:55 AM
This is about burning games that you got online through Bit Torrent. Thats why its in this section.

Posted by: tensai Oct 7 2004, 12:19 PM
so, if i want to play burned ps2 games
i HAVE to use the program you mentioned above or can i just use a regular burning program but set the speed lower?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 7 2004, 02:51 PM
Dont make it hard, this program is the best for burning Images. With this program you wont need any other Burning Image Program. Plus it supports all Image Burning formats. Many programs dont support each type.

yes, and i'm stil trying to find a way that's $100 or less to get that done...

Posted by: aa87 Oct 9 2004, 07:02 AM
Can anybody reccomend a good mod chip, price doesnt matter, as long as its the best.

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 9 2004, 07:10 AM
Yeah there's modchip.com. They have different variations like a boot loader that uses a memory card hack to play the games. Lately there's something called HDAdvance out there that allows you to load your games to a hard drive and boot them off that. Have no idea where to get it though.

Posted by: aa87 Oct 9 2004, 07:38 AM
ok, new question, what about wiring difficulty, im interested in this one. I can decently solder, but my dad has alot more experience with that.

http://www.modchip.com/ps2/dms3order.htm

Also, is modchip.com and mod-chip.com same company or what, they seem to offer same chips at same prices basically

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 9 2004, 10:46 AM
Go here people. http://www.Modchipstore.com. I have ordered from here before. Just never get the slide card people. Also make sure to find out what version # your PS2 is. Its very important to find it out.

Posted by: Kev Oct 9 2004, 10:50 AM
Isn't this techincally illegal?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 9 2004, 10:53 AM
Yes it is. I remember when Modding your PS2 got big so officials started to crack down people. But it seems they havent been cracking down anyone lately. Probably since its something that many people do now.

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 9 2004, 11:59 AM
Probly becuase people have a right to backup their games and be able to play them. That and there's a big import crowd to think about too. Yeah you can play bootlegs on it but more people are buying games now than bootleging seeing how many games are on DVDs now and blank DVDs aren't cheap. If I do get a PS2 anytime soon I'd probly get the HDAdvance one since I found out how much it costs and imo its a better choice since it won't void your warentee. Stuff like this is impossible to stop because different countries have different laws so you can easily base a company that sells modchips in a country other than the states. Plus hackers always find a way around things, look at the GameCube for example. Someone found a bug in Phantasy Star Online that allowed them to send commands directly to the GameCube's CPU via the network adapter. In turn they found out how to stream data copied from GameCube discs using the gamecube's drive to their PC & vice versa. Its not something you can stop so its not surprising they aren't following the RIAA's example dealing with this sort of thing.

Posted by: xkhol Oct 9 2004, 05:48 PM
could anyone give a detailed explanation/cost to the HDAdvance?

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 9 2004, 09:36 PM
Network adapter: $30 bucks used from a GameStore
Hard Drive: $40 - $50 for a standard 40gig found in any computer store
HDAdvance: $30 legally off an Internet store but Free if you can get a hold of a hacked copy that'll manage to run without a mod chip.

Basicly from what I've found out HDAdvance is like Alchohol 120% for the PS2. Copies the game disc to an ISO file on the hard drive and boots the game from this ISO as if it was in the CD drive. Supposally this is illegal in the US, but who cares? Technically the MODChip is illegal too yet alot of people still use it in the states. This good enough of an explanation?

does any1 no how 2 burn .nrg files

when i burn the .nrg file and play it on ma ps2, it works but its black and white and the screen is shaky...... does any1 no how 2 fix this problem??

and i cant burn it RAW DOA cause the option isnt available

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 10 2004, 07:38 PM
Try using NeroBurning Rom to burn the image since NRG is Nero's format. I've found sometimes A120% doesn't burn them right.

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 10 2004, 07:52 PM
Come on people, All you need is Alcohol 120%. It solves all your Image burning problems. It supports all formats.

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 10 2004, 08:40 PM
Yeah it supports all formats, however, it does have a problem with nero images. Everything else works fine, but me and my friends always had problems using A120% with nero images. Plus its always good to have a backup program because sometimes when something doesn't work in one program it may work in another.

EDIT:

Aznpride: forgot to mension that if it doesn't work in Nero then the image is probly corrupted.

why do we need DVD-R? what's the difference between that DVD+R?
b/c i don't think i can burn DVD-R =\
and is special stage a CD or DVD disc?
b/c the one i got from suprnova is 802MB....

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 11 2004, 11:10 AM
Special Stage is a CD. This is why its gotta be written in RAW DAO (Disk-At-Once) mode. You can fit 800mb on a 700mb cd if you remove all the error correction routines from the CD's filesystem. DVD-R & DVD+R are two different standards of DVD burners. I never really looked into the exact differences but they are different enough to be considered seperate technologies. Majority of modern DVD burners supports both formats. Plus from what I understand DVD-R is quickly becoming the standard recordable DVD format.

Posted by: aznpride Oct 11 2004, 11:47 AM
i cant seem 2 use nero burner 2 burn ma .nrg files cause ma nero doesnt support ma dvd burner

and does it matter if i use a DVD+RW 2 burn ma ps2 games instead of a DVD-R cause this way if it doesnt work then i didnt waste a dvd???

and when i try burnin .nrg files wit alcohol 120% it doesnt give me the option of RAW DOA and it only gives me DVD DOA so wht do i do???

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 11 2004, 01:25 PM
What version of Nero are you using and where did you get it?

I think it depends on the version of your PS2. I would assume older versions (like when it first came to the US) wouldn't be able to read the RW but more recent versions would.

Hrm.... not sure what DVD DAO is (I'm waiting for those blue laser DVD burners before I get one). I'll look into it though and get back to ya.

Posted by: aznpride Oct 11 2004, 01:30 PM
the nero(nero express) version im usin is 5.5.10.4 bundled

it came wit ma comp........ so im guessin if i get a newer version of nero it mite work

and the dvd+rw does work on ma ps2 xcept the screen is just shaky.... myb its copyrite laws im not sure

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 11 2004, 02:59 PM
Nero cant read all DVD burners no matter what version you have. It different for all versions. Older versions read my burner but not some of the newer ones, even though I have Sony Drives. Just please use Alcohol 120%.. Dont make this so hard on yoursselfs.

Thats PAL. If your in an NTSC contry then PAL will not work for you. it doesnt have to do with your PS2. It has to do with the Framerate of your TV. You can buy a switch at Best Buy to switch between NTSC and PAL. PAL is used in Europe. NTSC is used in Japan and North America. Watch what you download.

Currently Nero is at version 6.x. A newer copy might work. If things still don't work try downloading the game from a different source.

Guess what, it does have to do with the system because the game doesn't produce the graphics. Me and my friends play imported games all the time on our american systems with our american TVs and we never have a problem like that because of PAL & NTSC differences (and I have an old tv & vcr so the age of the tv is irrelavant). System graphic chipsets varies from country to country based on what TV standard they use. Either Aznpride's PS2 can't read the DVD+RW/DVD+/-Rs right, A120% isn't burning it right, or the image is just plain corrupted.

how do i check if i can burn onto DVD-R? because i don't think i can, and i want to be able to play DVD games
and if i can't burn onto DVD-R, can i try DVD+R?

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 11 2004, 05:36 PM
What DVD burner do you have? If its one of those out of the box PCs that came with it check your pc brand's website for details. Majority of modern DVD burners support both + and - formats so it wouldn't be surprising if you could burn a DVD-R.

Posted by: xkhol Oct 11 2004, 06:00 PM
alcohol 120% only has the burning speeds of 12X, 16X and 24X
what do i do?
should i just choose 16X for a CD-R?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 11 2004, 06:05 PM
Insert the CD before you start the program. I doubt that you cant burn at 4x, but I guess there is always that chance.

Posted by: SuperMazdaKart Oct 11 2004, 06:18 PM

so is there a guide to copying a game straight from an original game disc?

Posted by: xkhol Oct 11 2004, 06:19 PM
how many kb/s does 4X burn at?

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 11 2004, 06:21 PM
I think 4x is like 1200kbps

Posted by: xkhol Oct 11 2004, 06:24 PM
my only options are:
1800
2400
3600

Posted by: RakeRon Oct 11 2004, 06:28 PM
try 1800 then.

Edit: I do have the option of "DAO / SAO" as well, but that is the only DAO option i have.

Then reburn the img.

Posted by: Maverick Oct 11 2004, 09:01 PM
OK I figured out how to get Alcohol to burn "Raw DAO". I had the full version all along, which can be obtained at Suprnova under the name "Alcohol120_1.9.2.1705_retail_Incl_KEY".

Now what i had to do to be able to burn PS2 games was, go in Alchohol 120% and then go to File --> OPTIONS --> Data Type Setting --> under Disk Type choose "Playstation 2" --> Recording Options --> move "RAW DAO" over to the right box (pretty self-explanatory). Then hit OK.

Then I was able to Burn PS2 games in that format, its just not automatically set for RAW DAO, you have to set it. Well that is what i had to do to get it into that RAW DAO format, for those that couldnt get it.

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 11 2004, 09:07 PM
...I thought I made that somewhat clear for people. Well I guess not.

Posted by: xkhol Oct 11 2004, 09:25 PM
char, i have that same version, yet i can't choose 4x
but i can choose DOA RAW....

Posted by: Maverick Oct 12 2004, 06:07 AM
Hrm, it took me some playing with it to get it to burn in the correct format, but i dont know why you cant go low enough for 4X. My burner cant go lower than 4X so i cant burn at the suggested speed for DVD-R Images. My burner is an external dvd drive though. Takumi Trueno mentioned that his modded PS2 cant play CD-Rs, i dont think mine can either. I have a flip top.

Posted by: BiBi Oct 12 2004, 08:51 AM
If you use cheapass DVD media like Princo you might run into problems, the ps2 laser is picky about the kinds of media it reads. I use Ritek myself and never had a problem. I burn at the lowest speed with http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=53#comments.

For CDs I agree Alcohol 120% is the best.

I can play CD's on my PS2. Read carefully, I said that some PS2s can't read things like +R. Look at your CD's to see if it is -R or +R. Also check if your CD/DVDdrive can burn those two different types.

Posted by: xkhol Oct 12 2004, 03:08 PM
could it be that my burner is TOO fast?
or should i just try another program?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 12 2004, 03:11 PM
...That can be a possiblity. Im not sure if they now release burners with only faster speeds. Try a different program if you want.

You can't use a DVD+R because your Playstation might not be able to read it.

Posted by: BiBi Oct 19 2004, 05:10 PM
it depends which version u have. +R works on mine

Posted by: xkhol Oct 19 2004, 06:07 PM
i tried it on +R, DVD DOA, 2.4X (my minimum)
and it works fine
but, i have a question, will these differences from Takumi's guide
hurt my PS2?
i.e. the wrong burn speed, etc.

ptc-sotet
and how do i burn those kind of files?
i downloaded star ocean 3, and it's about71 of those kind of files..
how do i burn those?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 19 2004, 07:26 PM
It depends on your PS2 version. Some PS2's have better Disc readers, others dont. The guide I put up is the safest way to do it. Also using DVD-rip hurts your PS2. That is from trying to read a game that should be on a DVD, not a CD. DVDrips are games from DVD's and put onto a CD if you didnt know. Avoid DVDrips all you can. They hurt your PS2 more, making it work harder to read the PS2.

Posted by: krazykraka Oct 19 2004, 08:22 PM
xkhol: the ptc-sotet are have a file extention of *.rar.....use winrar to decompress and then burn the file with whatever program.....if that is the dvd version of Star Ocean 3..then there are 2 dvds...... and it looks like you only have 1 of the 2 dvds

only a few ps2's can read dvd+r....i dont know why it seems random....riteks dvdrs are probably the best ones to use because the dye that they use on the discs and the ps2 doesnt try as hard to read it(note: using any dvdrs will kill they ps2 laser faster than just playing original games)and they are about $40-55 for a 100pk

i archived them into a .rar file, do i just burn that?
because alcohol 120% doesn't recognize it as an image file
was that wat i was supposed to do?

ok, i uncompressed one, it's an ISO file but it's like 4.3 GB!
and there's like 78 of the files, which ones do i burn?
do i ahve to uncompress all of them??!!

Posted by: krazykraka Oct 19 2004, 09:23 PM
you burn ISO file which is the 4.3 gb file....you dont need to decompress the rest since they are a rar set...so if you decompressed the ISO file without any problems then just burn the ISO....im not familiar with Alcohol 120% so i dont know if it can load the ISO file......Nero should be able to load it fine....but just use whatever is easiest

Posted by: xkhol Oct 19 2004, 09:41 PM
i just decompressed the first one, burned it as an ISO and it works,
but why are there so many other files?

Posted by: krazykraka Oct 19 2004, 11:11 PM
makes it easier to download and if a certain file is corrupt it would be easier to fix a smaller file than to download the whole ISO again...since the ISO works you dont need the rar files anymore but its up to you

im a newb to burning ps2 games and i got a few questions

1. how do i tell if the game im burning is cd-r or dvd-r?
2. is the datatype supposed to be set at custumized?
3. i can only select the speeds 8x 16x and 31x, why is that?
4. when i press start it justs goes to a screen that says empty disk and the elapsed time goes on forever and nothing happens?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 30 2004, 04:36 PM
1. If the image is bigger then 800mb then its a DVD image.
2. The data is supposed to be set to customize.
3. You can only select those speeds because it is a CD image. Not DVD.
4. Are you using Alchol 120%? Make sure you have a blank disc, a good CD/DVD Image and make sure its supposed to be on a CD or DVD.

Posted by: e\/o Oct 30 2004, 04:49 PM
so if the image is bigger than 800 i use a dvd disc and if it is smaller then cd

Y usally around that size. Sometimes you have to do overburns on some images. Which is going slightly over the CD s capacity. Like 720mb on a 700mb CD.

Edit: I Forgot to add, that not all CD burners can overburn.

Posted by: e\/o Oct 30 2004, 04:59 PM
dam i just bought some dvd-r and the file i wanna burn at the moment is 600mb

is it possible to burn things below 800mb on dvds

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 30 2004, 05:13 PM
Sure you can. it wont work though. happy.gif . Make sure to check where you got the image from saying if its a DVD or DVDrip. I doubt a full dvd will make up to only 600mb. 600mb has to be a CD image.

Posted by: e\/o Oct 30 2004, 05:34 PM
lol actually the file is the battle gear 3 torrent u posted

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Oct 30 2004, 05:42 PM
You should have said that then. Its supposed to be on a CD. Im not sure if I said that in the topic, lemme double check.

Edit: I was correct. i did say that its supposed to be on a CD.

If its not an image file you cant burn it. Simple as that.

Ok... My friend has a burned copy of ID:SS and I was wondering if I could Burn this copy to copy? If not is there any other way I could Burn it?

Also if it helps I'm using my Laptop and I have only one DVD burner drive.

Also I remember in the Past...Ppl could burn Games with BootUp software with the Game and you wouldnt need a Modchip. Could you still do that with the PS2?

Posted by: Takumi Trueno Nov 14 2004, 10:39 PM
PLaying Burned games on the PS2 is not possible without a modchip. Unless you have the Slide Card, which doesnt always work. I would know this since my firned has one.

Posted by: TNK Nov 16 2004, 06:12 PM
Is there a way I could burn my Friend's game though?

Posted by: Taiki Nov 16 2004, 10:33 PM
i downloaded ps2 wwe smackdown vs raw... its a tar file but it got corrupted. any program that can fix this without me redownloading it (2.5 gigs) or purchasing a program.

btw, i downloaded this using irc? is irc good if i want ps2 games?

Posted by: krazykraka Nov 16 2004, 11:15 PM
tnk: you need 2(1 to read and 1 to write) drives if you want to do a 1:1 copy on the fly.......i dont remember if you can do it on ps2 dvd games though since i never tried it

hklnt: depends on how many files you downloaded.....if it came in only 1 tar file then you would have to download it again......i havent dealt with *.tar files in a while...so im not sure.......but if you downloaded multiple *.tar files then i think they can be treated like *.rar files...sooo go back to the place you downloaded the game from....and see if there are any files *.par or *.par2.....if there are some of those.....download all of them and download quickpar 0.9.1.0 (google it).....if you cant get the *.par/2 files............

Posted by: TNK Nov 16 2004, 11:20 PM
so ur saying it COULD Possibly work if I did Copy to Copy?

Posted by: krazykraka Nov 17 2004, 12:46 AM
yes it COULD work....but i think you should find out for sure before you try it....you could just make an image using Alcohol 120% to your HDD and then burn the image

Posted by: Taiki Nov 17 2004, 01:36 AM
omg >< 2.5 gigs gonna take me 14 hours to download... and my account have limit download too ><. could there be any reason why its corrupted?
anyways... this is out of the topic, but do you guys know any tweaks or programs that doesnt require purchase that increase your connection (download) speed?

Posted by: BiBi Nov 17 2004, 01:45 AM
LOL those "speed up" download programs are all scams/spywares

if u r using BT just make sure u don't have any firewall blocking the necessary ports to connect to the trackers

best place to download ps2 games is by newsgroups.

Posted by: krazykraka Nov 17 2004, 09:33 PM
hklnt: im not sure why it might be corrupted..........ask the person you got it from and see if the tar file is corrupt on their end....make sure that the file is complete as well....other than that i dont know

and newsgroups is the best place

I have a PS2 with the slide card/swap disk and it won't read my burnt copy of IDSS but I know people who have boughten IDSS and it worked on there modded PS2.
If you havn't already, burn IDSS to a CD like Takumi Trueno said on 4x. If that doesn't work then you will probably have to buy the game.

Just to let you guys know, the slidecard and DVD-Magic trick works really good. I've heard there's a problem with dust getting in the ps2 because the front panel is off the disc tray, but it's not a big problem for me, just try to keep it covered with a towel or something when not playing.

(PS: This may have been covered earlier through the thread, but I only read the first page, so since i'm being honest please don't bash me for hitting a topic already discussed. thanks. laugh.gif )

Also is it ok to request other ps2 games in the torrent section as well?

From previous experiences with xbox modding and playstation1 burning/modding, if the suggested way doesn't work... you need to try other stuff. Since it's said above how to burn it, and it must be a CD, you need to try different brands of CD's. Try CD-R CD-RW, etc, just try small things. Setting your burner to the SLOWEST speed is the best, not just 4x but 1x if possible.

It says: Support recording method: DAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO+SUB, TAO, DVD DAO

EDIT: I have burned games before tho, but they usually have errors. I've used RAW SAO + SUB in the past. I have made back up copies of Harvest Moon, BG3, and Gradius V, now I'm trying to make a CD back up of IDSS, but it doesn't work...

Theres no .cue or.bin file but a .ISO. Would It work if I just burn it with the instructions on the first page or is there a specific way to burn it?

Regarding number 3, the person asked this: "i can only select the speeds 8x 16x and 31x, why is that?" By CD image, you mean the file that you download to burn? or the CD that you are burning the file onto?

Oh, and if I can't select 4x, would 8x still be a safe speed?

-extract the ISO to a location of ur choosing
-burn the ISO with nero/alcohol 120% or whatever you want

thats it

Try to burn a CD at 24x and you will hurt your PS2.

I sitll cant select RAW DAO

ok, I can change all that information and etc but then when I start going into the Image burning wizard and then browse for the file and etc, then it gets to the option where it finalizes it before you start to burn, it's stuck on DVD DAO, and it's the only option. help!

I have dat problem now... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME ???

I wanted to get an original copy of this one because the manual looked cool. And it does!

I would have been nice to get an English version, but Tokyopop was trying to get the rights to publish it so I'm glad they didn't.

this is probably a stupid question and may be already mentioned, but here it goes anyways

i downloaded a game,
extrated the file with part1 on it,
then extrated the ISO,
and in that folder there are other files like .IRX, .IDX (a subtitle file), and some others,
and also the IMG file is 259 kb

The unextracted ISO file is 2.83 Gb, but when its extracted, its only 4.14 Mb

do i burn only the IMG file or everything that was extracted from the ISO file, or just the rar ISO file itself?

There should be an option under one of the menus to burn a CD (or in this case a DVD) from an image... You select that option, find your ISO file and just burn the DVD...

it said it must be converted to UDF to write the large file

Make sure that you're writing the disc at 2X.

Then if that wasn't your problem, get http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5 and use it to mount the image onto a fictional drive to do a 1-1 copy with your DVD-writing program.

Daemon tools is really neat! You can store DVD ISOs on your hard drive and load them onto a drive with daemon tools to read them on your computer as if you put the actual disc in the machine! It also has some anti-anti-piracy stuff too!

In a way i think they both apply to eachother

Please help guys.

Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks

I've downloaded the game just yesterday but have no idea how to burn it. I've got the Alcohol program but there no such .mds extension. There are around 14 files in the folder. They start like mksm.s001 then .s002, .s003 uptil .s014 .. How do I burn this???

Please help guys!! Thanks..

mpfootball_aa, I have no idea how to help you any further than TT's tutorial on the first page when it comes to Alcohol 120%.

Use Nero or something to do a 1-1 copy with D-tools.

Posted by: mpfootball_aa Oct 5 2005, 08:21 AM
Alright thanks luke, I'll probably to some guess and test things to see what works. May have to go buy some more dvd-r's tho, i'm running kinda low.

Posted by: mpfootball_aa Oct 5 2005, 11:10 PM
I've figured out my problem, it wasn't with the burning, it was with the swap disk program, i was doing it wrong.

Hmm, stop posting like that. Use the edit feature instead.

Where did you get this game anyway? Did you extract the bin file from anything?

Posted by: latinloverpimp Nov 14 2005, 01:23 AM
Like most people in this forum...I'm a newbie and I'm having trouble burning ID:SS...

I extracted it right but I see no ISO files in it. I downloaded it from one of the other forums. I have Alcohol 120% but my extracted files show no files with a .mds extension.

Help please...

Do I need any other programs in order to recognize any of the files I extracted.

Thanks

Just wondering since this is a tutorial for burning PS2 games... Is there really much of a difference between burning onto DVD+R or DVD-R media? I have been told that +R is apparently bad for PS2s (although my version 10 does support it)...

I'd like to remind all the new people posting to this thread that double posting is something you should avoid. The forum has a "edit" button in your post for a reason.

BOZZY: I've heard that too, so it could true.
Most if not all DVD readers should support +R and -R, but they are somewhat different from each other so...

Posted by: BOZZ Nov 21 2005, 10:14 AM
Hmmm... I've burned two games so far using +R and they don't seem to have any problems with my PS2 (which supports them) and other forums like AfterDawn say that +R are fine... ><

I have a swap magic disc but I dont know what it is used for and I have Initial D special stage Metal slug 3 for the ps2 import but I herd that dvd -r good to use it but I dont have a dvd-r reader got a dvd +r and I herd that works too.

But using these programs, do i need to have a chip to play in my ps2...its pal and its an australian one, my mates got a ps2 from overseas thats bin pal chipped, so i can always test the games in that one...

How would I get a burned japanese game to work on it?

Swap disk?

Never done it before, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

I've got a thin PS2 as well. I use swap disc. It works perfectly for me.

The thing is though, you need to cover 3 sensors in the first and second versions of the slim line, but in the versions after the ceramic white (I'm pretty sure) you have to open the entire thing up to cover up this one sensor they put on the bottom of the mainboard.

I think you'll need a japanese swap disc too...they have specific discs for Europe and USA, but I'm not sure about japanese.

You may have to go with modding.

Well, there's my bit of info for you! I hope I've been at least somewhat helpful to you.

The PS1 was the easiest console (well... no, N64 was easier) to allow to play burned and imported games. Make it so the tray door sensor is always depressed and get yourself a swap disc. Bam, problem solved.

The PS2 is similar, though a little more complicated. If you take the faceplate off of the disc tray and get yourself a swap disc (as I recall, Version 1 and 2 GameSharks work) and slide card (very specialized, can be found the same places you'd find modchips) you can play imports and burned games without a chip and as long as you still have the faceplate, without voiding the warranty. Booyah.

BlazingLuke is right, also, Johnnydepp. You'd need a Japanese swap disc, since you need a disc that can be read by a Japanese PS2. If they don't have a specific SwapMagic disk for your PS2, try to find a version 1 Japanese gameshark.

Posted by: blazingluke Feb 5 2006, 07:21 AM
Well, if it does work, it'll put extra wear on the PS2 because it wasn't meant to handle that speed.

not so sure about the new slim models, but that speed is not recommended for the older PS2 models, for example when i accidentally burned IIDX at 4X, it took ages to load, where as 2X was pretty much perfect

While there are special discs you can buy, they're expensive.

I get Memorex DVD and CD spindles and I find the discs work wonderfully. I haven't had a problem yet. The discs themselves are really high quality too! They're usually a low price as well.

So, Blazingluke recommends: Memorex DVD-Rs

well...found out my dvd burner wont burn lower than 6x...sucks...anyways i burned beatmania 5 and 9 and they work with no trouble. I burned kaido battle 2 and i get some music skipping sometimes in the menu. and when i'm racing at night sometimes the world just dissapears(meaning i only see stars) for a few secods. It has frozen only once while it was loading. other than that no problems. But i'm still gonna burn the game on my buddies dvd burner

btw, I also use memorex dvd/cd

I find that the best ways of burning are:

ISO Write Mode on "DVD Decrypter"

mounting the ISO with Daemon Tools and doing a 1-1 copy with Nero

I've never heard of that before...anyways!

Download Deamon tools (google D-tools)

Mount the CD's ISO

Copy the disc with a disc-to-disc copy program

This works for everything I've tried it with...except for that weird Black demo...but that's another story.

Try the afterdark forums. I hear they have everything.

and about burning swap discs...It can't be done without special equipment. They do something to the discs when they make them or something...my cousin thinks they're multi-session discs and that you need slysoft to copy them.

I really don't know, but that is what I've heard. Don't bother trying to download the ISOs off the net and don't bother trying to rip/copy them without expensive software/hardware.

To burn KB3, I used a Memorex DVD-R.

I mounted the image with Daemon Tools and copied it with Nero.

I'm also pretty sure you can burn it with DVD Decrypter.

since you have a slim ps2, do you know if your cd isos run good? cause I have the old ps2 and its getting a little bit crowded in th tv stand, and I was thinking about buying a ps2 slim, but I read somewhere that its picky with cd-r games

alright for DVD decryptor do this
this applies for ALL ISOs....

Insert a blank dvd into your drive
Open up dvd decryptor..i have 3.5.4.0

then:

1) choose a mode (im assuming ur writing an image)
user posted image

2) Choose the image(iso) that you want to burn
3) select the drive you are burning in
4) select the speed
5) Press that huge ass button on the bottom

user posted image

and thats it...

i suggest you leave the other settings as default..(such as the advanced tab....cuz you know....its for advanced people)....

and then pop that shit into ur ps2 and play....

i have not encountered any problems with this program....

if you have problems then.....change media....find out if the file is messed up....check your ps2.......or kill yourself

I store-bought North American PlayStation2 cannot play games from other regions of the world nor can it play games on anything other than official PS1/PS2 discs.

You need to use swapdisc or modchip.

It might be how you burn them too. Different disc images have different personalities, lol.

PAL games don't work on your NTSC televisions if you don't convert them first.

I've got two universal televisions from when I lived in Europe so I can play both PAL and NTSC and the TV switches it automatically! I've got a VCR that does it too.

Ive got the first model PS2 (one of the ones from launch Aussie releace this is so Pal) and ive got swap magic 3.6 with swipe card. Ive downloaded Zone of the enders and all i got was a zip file with a .iso extension and a .mds file wich is 21 kb ive got no idea how to burn it becaus its not like a proper iso its just a zip with the files from the cd on it. Ive tried just burning these files with nero and swap magic didnt ditect it as a ps2 disk o.0

Any help / ideas?

Considering D1GP 2005 is 2.23 GB's, is it possible to shrink the game to burn onto and play from a CD-R?

Can PS2 even read DVD to CD conversions?

I ask because all I have is a CD-RW drive with Sonic RecordNow and Sony SonicStage Simple Burner, and I have no friends with DVD+/-R drives with Alcohol 120% or Nero.

And I've been dying to play D1GP 2005!

No, it is not possible for you to do this.

Good news, DVD-Burners are less than $40 now wink2.gif

You can use pretty much any image burning program. Nero works most of the time, there have only been a couple of games that gave me troubles when using it.

DVD Decrypter is awesome at burning PS2 games.

D-Tools + Nero 1-1 copy works best for me though.

stupid question, but did you put a blank disc in? and by that i mean, another disc after you try to start the burning process?

Hi, I got a version of alcohol that might interest you guys. It's an economy "portable version" but it seems to have all the features. http://putstuff.putfile.com/46725/2155759

I use it for burning DC games, it seems to burn every kind of image I throw at correctly and pretty fast.

Have fun.

alright for DVD decryptor do this
this applies for ALL ISOs....

That's the one that's been working for me so far. But, is something supposed to happen when you click the huge ass button on the bottom? I clicked it and nothing happened, except my disc tray won't open. Is that a sign that its working?

I was wondering how you burn PS1 games I been having the mod chip in my PS1 for a long ass time but I stop playing it like all of us do.I still have burn games but the way I burn them was I rented a copy so it was a original version of the game (The CD)then I made a exact copy of it.But I downloaded a Torrent of a game and it has 3 files CCD,SUB,IMG and sometimes CUE but I used alcohol 120% didnt work,Nero Didnt work, cdcopy, didnt work, and some others I forgot the names I was wondering is there something I am doing wrong cuz I read others forums and YES I GOOGLE IT but still found no luck. They kept saying to put the CCD file and burn the image but that did not work why did it have 3 files but you only burn 1 of them that does not seem right I am thinking that you have to burn all files the CCD,IMG,SUB files. But yea I need to know like a step by step process to do this and what program I must use.

hey guys I need some help from some of you burning gurus I just got the Initial D street stage downloaded off of utorrent. I also downloaded alcohol 120% and DVD encrypter. I can't get any of them to work. When I tried to load up the files I click on the file that has all of the game files in it they are all Initial_D_Special_stage_NTSC_J.part05.rar and with similiar names. The thing is none of the burning software I downloaded recognizes any of the game files. I don't know if its because of the RAR format or what so any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if I'm doing something completely retarded here but this is the first time I've attempted burning a ps2 game.

Posted by: dmhc69 Dec 7 2007, 10:40 PM
burning RARs onto a disc does just that -- burns the archived files onto a disc.

by the sounds of things what you'll need to do is extract whatever is in these RAR files (which will probably be some sort of ISO). the file that is inside of the RAR archives that you have is the one that needs to be burned.

i hope that helps.

How do i mod my ps2 tho? I've heard of modchips but i'm not really familiar with the whole progress of soldering it etc. Tbh i'm just affraid that i would mess up. Any good place to buy modchips from and get any info? thanks :3

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 11 2017, 01:12 PM
It's Year Of Our Lord 2016+1. No one does this anymore. Just use PCSX2 and skip burning games or modding your PS2 in the first place.

Posted by: gns64 Dec 14 2017, 07:48 PM
If you have a fat PS2 all you need is a network adapter and a hard drive. No need for modchips or any of that crap.
https://imgur.com/gallery/2rUST

I use PCSX2 to play some games for the convenience of having savestates + upscaled textures, but a lot of games are glitchy as all hell even with tweaks

Posted by: schouppeke Dec 26 2017, 09:37 AM
The thing is i really like using my PS2 instead of using an emulator... It just feels weird lol

Posted by: Nomake Wan Dec 26 2017, 11:54 AM
That's unfortunate. Look into methods of running ISOs directly on a PS2 (such as via USB or via internal hard drive) if you're so fixated on it. If you have an old PS3 (such as a 20GB or 60GB) there are also ways to play PS2 games via USB or network connection.

An emulator is still the superior way to play, however, as nowadays PCSX2 is capable of playing games even better than the original hardware.

Generally, but not necessarily. There are some games that still shit bricks in certain areas unless you're using software rendering (Siren, Silent Hill Origins, Gran Turismo 3, Silent Hill 2, etc.) at which point you may as well be playing on a real PS2. Then there's the whole nostalgia thing but that's a personal choice.

I think that ps2 games look waaaaay better if they're played on a old crt tv. The image is sharp and natural.
