TOP GEAR GT4 CHALLENGE Here are the specifications... -Competitors are given 10'000 credits to go out and buy a car that is equal or less than the given credits. Turn all aids off, no oil change, no tuning whatsoever. -A series of challenges will be made, of which they will be ranked and points given accordingly. -As such, here is the first challenge... After players have each both a car for less or equal than 10'000 credits, -Play Family Cup for El Capitan Normal, 2 laps at difficulty 5. Points will be given in terms of time, and position. 9Meaning that there are two seperate points, one for ranking after the race, another is fastest time to each other players.) More challenges will come ahead should this challenge is completed. James May: I'm not sure whether I should take part. I must see if Jeremy or Hammond were to join in. Now, where's my Fiat Panda when I need it? The Stig: ... *Sounds of crickets in the background* NOTE: Please state the price of car as well, just to make sure. So I thought why not. Armed with my £10,000 I searched the Auto Trader for some bargins. I was spoilt for choice, Civic's, Prelude's, Corolla's, all under £10,000. But one car caught my attention. Heres the advert itself: "1992 Mitsubish Lancer Evolution. Silver. 51k miles. Completely original. Never raced or rallied. 1 Previous owner. Electric everything. CD player. P/S. A/C. ABS. Alarm. Driver airbag. MOT and Tax until June 2008. £9,582 NO OFFERS. Like a moth to a lightbulb, I decided to chase this up and look to see if it wasnt a misprint. Turns out it wasnt, and after a test drive I felt like this was a good car. So £9,582 later, I have the keys to this gem. I'm currently on my laptop at a motorway service station, on my way to El Capitan. So see you soon! Edit: Corrected some spelling and grammar. Oh and a question, do we wait for other people to confirm their cars before I post race results? Edit2: Do the winnings from the race add to our £10,000 or not? Let's see.. *reads thru the rules* This is brilliant! I think I have few cars in mind that will suit this challenge with ease. Say, if we find a car from our OWN garages that could be sold for 10 k£, can we use it as it is? |

Answer for edit 1: You don't have to wait; just post the ranking in the race, and time. Of course, if you want to wait for the others, I won't force you. Answer for edit 2: Sorry, is it not added to the 10'000 pounds given.

Damn and blast! This means I cannot tune Sir Lanceralot, apart from oil. Hey when do we get to change the oil? I felt like my engine was gonna explode during that whole race, oil warning light suddenly blinked up (previous owner put tape over it so I couldnt see ), so much for good condition Anyway, my race results... El Capitan Family Race (Difficulty : 5) Place: 1st Best lap: 2'09.950 Total: 4'30.956 I must say, being chased by an NSX for half a lap IS NOT FUN. Especially when you had a boxing match with an Aussie at the start of the race I am thankful of my cars abilities, I managed to outbrake and outhandle anything there (even those NSX's!) and get a good margin before they hunted me down on the main straight *awaits next challenge* This post has been edited by VTiRoj on Jul 29 2007, 03:06 AM

As for Kurei's post, how about posting some pics that you find humourous. Afterall, this is a Top Gear Challenge. As for the other tests... well... I do have some ridiculous ideas; drive a circuit in reverse without going off-track, send a car forcibly back into the pit stop in Tsukuba Normal (The shorter the time, the better.), and so on. Don't worry, I have quite a number of ideas up my sleeve. James May: As a competitor myself, I've been looking around in used car lots, trying to find a good car that is less than or equal to 10'000 pounds. Of course, there were some that irked me up. -The Honda City looked like it had mutated from the Honda Today. -The Chevrolet Camaro, that's rape pornography. -The Silvia S13 1.8! I was about to buy it when.... I realised it had grass growing on it (A joke on the Lime Green colour.) -A Honda 360.... no. That's a shoe box with a lawnmower engine. -Skyline R32 Type-S.... Wha- no turbo? -Honda Beat.... It'll probably beat me up first before I beat it up. -Toyota Celica GT-Four ST165... no.... Just no... It turns like it's on stilts. -Fiat Panda, wait, no, that fails in life. Wait, I have a Panda, does that mean I fail as well? And the list goes on... Oh boy... IDW Banned Member Group: Banned Posts: 2,975 Member No.: 14,568 Joined: Nov 24th 2005 Location: Varkaus, Finland | alright, I've found my ride, and raced it with rather satisfying results. just like you asked, James, The Car cost less than 10k£, handles like wet spaghetti and has lost about 1/4 of it's power output. Anyhow, this is the result: Nissan Skyline GTS-t '91, 195bhp according to dyno ( should have 212bhp, mind you). Price: 9,378£.. ish. Time at EC Family cup ( difficulty +5): 4'31.242, and best lap was in 2'08 range, opposition was Audi A3 3.2 Quattro (4'35.909), 2 Honda S2000's (4'35.936-4'37.600), Focus RS (4'38.664) and Subaru Legacy 3.0R (4'42.775).. And they all were beaten by a mile. Actually, the car wasn't too bad to drive. Being a baby-Godzilla may have something to do with it, since it still has that fancy active 4-wheel steering that helped a lot. But the body roll upset my stomach a bit.. And no, James, I will not amuse you by letting you see me throwing up again. Actually I DID have a camcorder with me, but my dearest wife decided to erase the entire content while I was trying to make my stomach settle down. Always Lurking... Group: Advanced Members Posts: 1,760 Member No.: 20,050 Joined: Sep 6th 2006 Location: Singapore | After some billions and billions of swearing, including the ones in Norwegian; Ah Pikk, I've found a car that was a snatch. I approached it before some guy in nylon suit could get it. I assume he was out to kill this beloved coupe. And what a car. 'Mazda RX-7 GT-X 90', Brilliant Black, MOT and Taxed until July 2010'. Odd, the description was vague, but the coupe itself told it all. Pristine black paint, alloy wheels, though some knicks knacks about the engine oil being such a clot once in a while. No matter, it was a steal. 8'700 Pounds. What a grab! paying it quickly before the nylon grub could, I sped off like I stole it, for the very first time. Heck, I didn't even speed that much in my Boxster. I wonder why this RX-7. Into El Capitan Circuit From then I realised why this was such a good deal. The engine oil kept lighting up, but that was not the slightest hindrance for me. Suspension was better compared to the Celica ST165 I test drove; it was rubbish. It was like trying to drive a giraffe through a tunnel. But this RX-7, my god it goes. And happily, guess who I bumped into with a new paint job? Yes, VTiRoj! Of course, being a good Samaritan, I decided to give a slight... front fender tap to knock his concentration off for a moment, and what a laugh, he out on a fight. Of course, I wasn't going to let these schmucks bag the win, especially that bloke with the Z4. Overtaking him at an incline, from then, I was increasing the gap, and didn't realise for a moment that I was actually understeering in some corners. Like this for example. Holy mother of all rotaries! Thank God the speed loss was just enough to clear that unforgiving corner-no, wait, it was my fault, wait... uhh.. never mind. Here are the results... Ranking: 1st Best Lap: 2'07'257 Overall: 4'26'587 |

I joke luckily that was only a vinyl wrap to change my cars colour without paying for a full respray. But after you messed it up with your "slight... front fender tap", the vinyl tore off and is unuseable now!!! You will pay Outlaw, just you wait... And... hmm... is it just me or do I have the best deal? With the remaining 1'300 pounds, I can afford an oil change, and a ECU upgrade, but heck, when are the upgrades going to be in the challenge? The first challenge will go on for the next 3 days before the second challenge starts off... And here's a clue... We're going to take a ferry to a friendly country called... I'm not telling... |

Hamster, you picked first generation Evo, that has front-biased AWD without all those fancy computers that could alter the handling to more oversteer-ish direction. Thus it understeers when it's pushed. James, you picked old RX-7, that also has 4WS just like my baby godzilla, but it doesn't have that much weight on the front wheels so it tends to understeer as well unless you apply some weight shifting technique.. and no, that doesn't mean rubbing your hemoroids against the drivers seat. atleast that is my "out-of-my-behind"--theory.
