Actually, doing the same thing. I like the nostalgia of the first game and did pretty much the same before MGS4's release.

Holy shit. Afghanistan's first missions are a great veiled tutorial. Everything feels like it's been fine tuned to be "fair" for the player, even on higher difficulties. Enemies act realistically and even pull stunts and special maneuvers of their own to fuck with you if they get the notion that there is an intruder. Protip: use your fucking binoculars. Lack of intel means you are going to die very quickly in most cases, as the enemy has all sorts of crazy ways of catching you by surprise. Also, be sure to disable enemy walkie talkies as much as possible. If you're going non-stealth for any reason, get rid of communications as a priority so you don't face their biggest, baddest support abilities. You don't want to meet them. So far I haven't run into any graphical/framerate issues, aside from a bit of pop-in. It looks fantastic everywhere you go. Kojima was nice enough to actually get the Arabic signs and graffiti to read correctly (linguist bonus: translations are legit, too). The writing is mostly in Modern Standard, but some Pashto is in there as well. The soldiers are Russian, though, so I couldn't get any Arabic dialog to check yet. I haven't been in the game long enough to meet up with any natives, if there are any. So far I'm blown away. Very much worth the wait. |

I've just been informed that my Gamestop actually isn't doing a midnight release. Fuck. This post has been edited by Miura Seri on Aug 31 2015, 06:25 AM |

There is no difficulty selection. AI instead adapts to you. If they are victims of sniping a lot, for example, soldiers will start to wear helmets and body armor more often.

They are crucial to enemy air defense measures. Destroying them will create a new helicopter LZ nearby. You can destroy them easily by flinging a single grenade at the dish. - Invest in everything as soon as you can. Developing weapons and gear means you can be on the cutting edge ASAP, and since you can call for supply drops in the field at any time, there is no excuse for being behind the curve. GMP is easily regained so don't sweat spending hundreds of thousands of GMP on developing a single item when an uncut diamond will instantly negate the expenditure. - Interrogate troops always. Unless they're dead, they have secrets to tell. If they're not spilling troop locations, they can tell you where they stashed weapons or resources. Press them for info more than once, because sometimes they don't tell the whole story in one sitting. Higher ranked troopers will usually have better info to spill. |

I played through it in the HD Collection after ripping through Ground Zeroes and feeling the hype of another Kojima game waiting in the wings. V feels to me like what 3 would be if it was on a more powerful system that could negate loading screens. It's a fantastic title that will take time to fully understand due to Kojima's writing. |

THIS. THIS. A MILLION TIMES THIS. Found so many neat little stashes and specialists from this one simple trick. Soviets hate it. And yeah, spot-on call with the Snake Eater comparison. S'why I'm loving this game so much so far, it's basically Snake Eater and Peace Walker having an awesome, current-gen flipperbaby.

Syphon Filter did something similar like Desert Eagle being the Falcon or the AK being called PK-102. Still an odd setup since every previous MGS game used licensed weapons.
