Can someone explain to me why and how this is actually happening?

From my understanding. Norman Reedus and Kojima are super best friends which I think is so sweet and adorable. After the tragic cancellation of Silent Hills last year. I'm wondering if this is a continuation of the project or something completely new and unrelated.

Completely unrelated. Silent Hills was entirely cancelled and Del Toro has sworn off of collaborating in the video game industry. Whatever Kojima is working on is a brand new IP.

New IP is new.

I see. The Silent Hills game held so much promise based on everything seen from the P.T. and everything else surrounding it. Its such a shame. But if with Norman Reedus and Kojima working together again. I have hope that this is be good. Strange. But good.

As far as I am aware the title is going to be at the very least on the PS4, possibly also PC.

As for the name it comes from a term relating to when whales or dolphins get stranded on a beach. If they're alive it's called "live stranding", and, if they're not, it's called "death stranding". Beyond that Kojima has said that the title relates to something coming from another world and being stranded here, so here's hoping this is science fiction-ish cause man I loved his non-Metal Gear sci fi like Policenauts and Snatcher, they were gold and IMHO better than some of his work on Metal Gear.

Guaranteed scifi. The trailer is full of scifi tropes. Just look at the end and tell me it isn't gonna be a traditional Kojima mindfuck.

Hopefully it's better than his more recent work on Metal Gear.

I haven't played Metal Gear since 3. But yeah, everything looked ridiculous in 4 and 5. I was wondering if Kojima was just spiting Konami and screwing up his own franchise before they weren't letting him do what he do.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was great, to be honest Kojima should've stopped right there.

Was Phantom Pain really that bad?

It was released before it was finished. Needed a few more years in the oven. The first half of the game is brilliant.

Pretty much this... Some keen eyed observers also managed to find out there were later parts of the game that were unfinished and thus not included in the final game.

Mhm, Konami wanted it out, finished or not.
And to hear what was left out, it would have been a game for the ages. sad.gif

Yeah, it's a shame that the execs at Konami are blinded by money they're earning from stupid pachino and free-to-play mobile games, in the end it's business, but it still sucks to see. sad.gif

Don't forget that they have yugioh too. They probably want to get out of the console video game business.

Yeah, but I haven't heard of them releasing any new major Yugioh titles lately, but I could be wrong.

As for getting out of the console business, it's a sad reflection of the modern reality of business, they are making far more money on things like pachinko games and games on mobile.

I still have a yugioh game on my PS1 or whatever.

Surprisingly they released a few Yugioh games in the past few years, more often than not, they're for portable devices, but they even released a PS4 game last year.

Just read an article of an interview that Hideo Kojima had and he dropped a few tidbits about this game:

QUOTE
So in principle it’s an action game where the player will be able to execute the actions that they’re used to. When humankind evolved, it started using tools. The first tool was the stick and the second tool was the string.

The stick was used to create a distance against unpleasant things and enemies, while the string will be used for the opposite, to tie things that you want to keep close to yourself. Those two tools allowed evolution and and generated our current era and even games.

Technology has evolved from 3D to VR and what not, but I still think that most games nowadays are based on the stick, on shooting, on kicking and punching, and all these ideas that come back to a stick. In Death Stranding there will be stick-esque elements, but I want to put in there the string, the rope that will organically tie things.

While I cannot get into specifics yet, that’s the idea that I have for this game.

This kind of reminds me of this in-development game called Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, that's being developed by former Creative Director of Assassin's Creed, Patrice Desilets.

That is way too deep for me fam. It is still an interesting concept.

They released some more material for this at E3 this year right? So is this still a thing?

Kojima basically said it can be played entirely without combat. Get ready for six hours of cutscenes, an hour of credits, and a thank you splash screen for wasting $60 on a "game".

HOW SUBVERSIVE, KOJIMA. YOU REDEFINED THE GENRE AGAIN.
