I don't mind if it's a soft top model, just as long as it's a standard (manual) transmission. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

While some others started lightly galvanizing them, Datsun just let it go so any road debris that made a scratch would instantly turn to cancer. Currently experiencing that first hand on my 'Nissan from your local Datsun dealer'. One scratch and it turns bad in less than a week. I've heard that is one of the reasons they reverted the name to Nissan. Dunno about Mazda, but from this thread it sounds like equal footing. Any car over 10-15 yrs old you should be mindful, though. |

Look at the electrics and the engine before worrying about rust. Unless this was an FC that was driven wholly into the great salt lake, let it take a slight back seat. Make sure the car actually runs, and then move on to concerns like rust. |

Beverly Hills, CA 90024 | You should definitely run a compression test of the engine if possible, and do no buy a turbo charged car if you want to daily driver. Putting a turbo on a rotary engine normally cuts its life in half. Also, make sure the transmission doesn't make any noise or grind. If it does that's an obvious sign that the car was owned by a boy racer and abused. That's just my experience anyway. Around here in Washington state a good FC will run you 4 to 5 grand. Edit: The very most I'd do is modify the outside of the car to match Ryosuke's FC from 5th Stage, but that seems to be a problem with all the out-of-production parts and all. You might want to leave that on the backseat as well, in regards to body kits. Your main concern is to check if it's not a basket case.

I have seen some rusted in Texas and Arizona. They rust in places where most cars just plain do not rust. So of course, what do you think would happen to them if they were driven all year 'round for 40 years in a place like New York? No bueno. |

I don't think they had a Twin-Turbocharged FC from the factory.
I don't think the OP wants an uncomfortable DD to start with. This post has been edited by Ken Nōgami on Mar 28 2013, 08:49 PM

He wants a GT wing for his DD. That's already telling me hes not going to care for "comfort".

See, anyone with some degree of sensibility would make sure that the car in question was actually worth it for, what, 5 months to a few years? Buying a car and then modding it when it's your only choice of a DD seems like a waste of effort, no? I mean, I'm the equivalent to a basic jalop. As long as it drives(rides), looks and works beautifully. If it's a project car, then by all means. But it's your DD. As everyone stated, worry about the condition of the car (from the engine to maybe some rust) then worry about other auxiliary details as miniscule as a wing. I am starting to sound like floh, but why do you want that on a DD? Unless you use it as a track-day vehicle 75% of the time, why? Most people would be no better than a ricer.
