QUOTE (animeNfo)
It is said that the Holy Grail grants wishes to he who wields it. To materialise the Holy Grail, a ritual is about to be held. The Holy Grail will choose seven wizards (masters) and give them seven familiar spirits (servants).

Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker.

The master contracts with one of seven familiar spirits that plays one of the above roles (classes). The master must prove that he is qualified to have the Holy Grail, meaning that he must eliminate other masters to show he is the strongest. This ritual is called "The Holy Grail War".

The story takes place in Fuyuki City. It is a city surrounded by the sea and mountains. In this common city, a shadow encroaches.

The main character had lost his parents in a fire when he was a child. He was adopted by a person who called himself a wizard. Disobeying his father-in-law, the main character has studied magic. However, because he lacked talent, he could obtain only one magic spell despite several years' training.

One day, the main character is accidently involved in a fight between two opposing masters. As he is dying, a girl suddenly appears and saves him.

"...Now, I ask you. Are you my master?"

He contracts with one of the seven servants, Saber. Willingly or not, he becomes a master, and plunges into a war over the Holy Grail...

Great little series, originally created by the same team that did the Lunar Legend Tsukihime game...

Posted by: Chidoki Apr 25 2006, 05:39 PM
If it's from the same who did Tsukihime then I better check it out sometime.

Posted by: BOZZ Apr 25 2006, 09:24 PM
Yeah, but apparently the creators had more of a role in the animation (of Fate Stay Night) than they did in the Tsukihime anime adaptation...

Posted by: babba-r32 Apr 29 2006, 04:44 PM
i am also a fan of tsukihime and fate. What do you guys think about it so far?

Posted by: BOZZ Apr 29 2006, 04:47 PM
I think it's a great series, I'd say after the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the best series shown this season... Also, the story telling is great, as it's based on a game with 3 different major story sceneraios it mixes all 3 into one and adds some elements...

Posted by: babba-r32 Apr 30 2006, 08:20 AM
my friend says it would be cool if they make season 2 and 3 fate stay night with the other paths of the game.

season 1: Emiya and Saber
season 2: Rin and Archer
season 3: Evil Sakura

Posted by: BOZZ Apr 30 2006, 02:04 PM
Might be, but with the way it's going it's going to be a mix of all of them... tongue.gif

Posted by: babba-r32 Apr 30 2006, 03:01 PM
true. BTW, did you anyone see ep 17? What are your theories for the connection between emiya and archer?

Posted by: awdrifter Apr 30 2006, 05:00 PM
On another forum they explained it pretty well.
Archer is the future Shirou.

Hehehe... I already know what the "connection" is between the two based on the game's storyline... tongue.gif

i would play the game, but they i cant read japanese and i heard that the english translation patch is kinda funky.

That was totally uncalled for krazyndn411, do it again, and I will increase your warning level again...

Back on topic... I've yet to watch FSN 18, but man I do wonder how they'll end the series, will they have a tragic or a somewhat happy ending.

Posted by: krazyndn411 May 8 2006, 09:24 PM
Uncalled for? It was a picture of peppermint patty wearing a Nash jersey...

Posted by: BOZZ May 8 2006, 09:33 PM
It was a picture of Peppermint Patty dressed up as a Nazi, wearing a Suns jersey, with the salute and the words "Hiel Hitler". I am sorry but that was what was uncalled for, please don't do things like that again.

Anyways if you have problems with it, there is a PM system here, contact me via it...

Posted by: awdrifter May 9 2006, 02:36 AM
Ep.18 was pretty cool.
Sakura looks pretty hot in that dress, but this anime is based on an H-game, so that doesn't surprise me. Shirou is getting better, he can summon weapons out of thin air, but he still sucks at fighting. Looks like everything is coming to an end. In ep.19 Rin might die and it looks like at least Assassin will be defeated soon. All that's left are Caster and Lancer (IIRC).

Posted by: BOZZ May 11 2006, 11:23 AM
Yeah, just got around to watching it.... I can't wait for episode 19, since a certain someone makes his first appearence... ><

Posted by: BOZZ May 13 2006, 11:49 PM
Surprised no one mentioned episode 19 airing and being released... A good episode that ends the current arc and goes into the new and final arc of the story...

Posted by: awdrifter May 14 2006, 02:12 AM
Watched ep.19 today.
I didn't play the game so this might be wrong, but man, there's another version of Shirou, but this version kicks ass. From what I understand he's using basically a level up'd version of unlimited blade work. He can summon any hougu (treasure?) of any of the servants and he 's not afraid to show he likes Saber. This version of Shirou is what a master should've been, hopefully we'll see more of him later/

Posted by: xiao May 14 2006, 05:44 AM
Gilgamesh isn't a version Shirou
wink2.gif

They're mixing in details from all the scenarios. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to go with the FATE ending, since it's been the main reoccurring plot in the anime. So far so good, here's to hoping there'll be a Fate/Hollow OVA.

Posted by: BOZZ May 14 2006, 11:41 AM
Well episode 19 almost teased that the ending might be completely original... then again it could always end up with the Fate ending...

Posted by: awdrifter May 14 2006, 01:07 PM
Did you guys play the game in Japanese? Or is there a translated version in English (or Chinese).

Posted by: BOZZ May 14 2006, 01:09 PM
Well there is a demo version that was translated into English, sad thing is Fate is a visual novel, so no voices (heck I can get by decently if there were voices), and my knowledge of reading Japanese blows holes...

There is a fan site that goes into detail though on each major branch of the game...

Posted by: awdrifter May 14 2006, 01:31 PM
Thanks for the info. But seems like the game would be a bit boring if there's no voice acting at all. It seems like reading a manga.

Well some really well known games are like that, namely Air and Clannad (although I could be wrong on Clannad).

Went through it in Japanese a while ago. I thought the same guys who did the Tsukihime translation were doing Fate/Stay? I'm surprised they're not done yet, you can probably get the whole script in English if you search around. FSN is a good introduction into visual novels… speaking of which, I hope T-M is working on something new.

Posted by: BOZZ May 14 2006, 03:13 PM
Well one group, called Mirror Moon, is nearly done the Fate route...

Posted by: awdrifter May 28 2006, 03:28 AM
Just watched ep.21.
Shirou and Saber vs Gilgameshu. The battle was cool. When Shirou is "tracing" the sheath for the Excalibur, it looks like all his magic circuits are overloading. This is the best ep so far, especially with Shirou and Saber's relationship development.

Posted by: BOZZ May 28 2006, 07:12 PM
Just 3 more weeks and it's over... sad.gif

Posted by: Filphil Jun 5 2006, 02:16 PM
The game has three stories:
Fate
Unlimited Blade Works
Heaven's Feel

My question is, does anyone have any information if they will make a series out of all three, or is FATE the only one?

Posted by: sdfgdg Jun 7 2006, 07:59 PM
i've been watching it before i realised there was a thread here
22 is good
its setting itself up for a big finsih
its a good series

Posted by: Filphil Jun 8 2006, 07:57 PM
I still think episode 14 was the best episode. It's in that episode, where I am convinced archer did NOT lose his memory.

Posted by: Sickness Jun 10 2006, 09:20 AM
I think they also had an arcade game called Melty Blood. I really want to watch the episodes badly now

Posted by: BOZZ Jun 10 2006, 01:56 PM
Wasn't Melty Blood a PC fighting game that used Tsukihime characters?

Well the series is over next week... I need to catch up... I think I'm at the last episode of the Caster arc...

Posted by: Filphil Jun 12 2006, 12:24 PM
Please do catch up!
After reading about the game, I just can't wait to see how they end it.

BTW,
Can someone teach me how make a torrent for FSN 1-24 by eclipse? This is going to my first one ever. I'll add it on boxtorrents and mininova.

Posted by: BOZZ Jun 12 2006, 03:09 PM
Not sure how it's done... You could try checking out via google if there any guides to doing it...

I am not even sure if I got it in me to watch Fate Stay Night now... I was just watching this one show, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and it's just plain morbid and freaky...

Posted by: Filphil Jun 12 2006, 09:00 PM
It does look interesting, But I would have to wait for either Ayu to release more episodes, or a new subbing group take over. I hope Ayu is still doing it, they ae 5 episode behind according to anidb.

Posted by: BOZZ Jun 12 2006, 09:07 PM
Well there is a group doing it that has done 10 episodes so far, We are IN Denial (WIND).

Posted by: awdrifter Jun 13 2006, 03:50 PM
For English fansub groups, Eclipse is fastest group so far, their ep.23 is out. And from anidb, their rating is not bad.

Oh, we weren't talking about FSN, Eclipse IS the only way to go for FSN though!

According to anidb, they only did two anime's: FSN and Shakugan No Shana. Which I'm currently downloading

Posted by: BOZZ Jun 13 2006, 06:02 PM
I don't know about their quality being the best though... I remember one of the early episodes with the... "I'm feeling cheesy" line...

I hope they (or somehow) include Heavens Feel and Unlimited Blade Works scenarios on DVD or something.

Posted by: awdrifter Jun 17 2006, 12:01 AM
Watched ep.24 today.
The ending was pretty good, it wraps everything up. For once I agree with Shirou's decision, he could've force Saber to drink from the Holy Grail so she can stay, but he did the right thing and let her go. It's a bitter sweet ending, but it's the right choice (IMO).

Get it off of mininova.org

Edit::
I just saw eclipse version downloaded off of mininova.org. The ending to me was rather touching, but I was hoping you'd find out who archer really was. But with that ending, it seems rather unfitting to understand who he is. I wish I knew how to do the spoiler thing so I could tell...

The spoiler tag is [spoiler.]The text you want to hide.[/spoiler.] Without the "."

Posted by: Sickness Jun 17 2006, 07:40 PM
I think it was a good ending to a good anime.

But alot of people think the ending is (spoilers kinda)
really sad that saber disapeared but Shiro understands that.

Posted by: BOZZ Jun 17 2006, 08:16 PM
Well...

...it's kinda implied that Archer is Shirou...

Posted by: HazelGuy Jun 17 2006, 11:49 PM
So I've just watch the last episode. It was ok, but it didn't finalise as many things as it could of in my opinion, but perhaps we'll see some OVAs down the line to flesh things out a bit.

I'm pretty sure that Archer is Shirou, but they could have explained the only part of Archer left after he disappeared was the medallion, etc.

Great series though.

I believe that somewhere in the anime, when Rin is reviving Shirou, she say's she has to use the same medallion that she used tro summon archer. I hope that's the same medallion that was talked about.

Sorry to dig up this old thread. Does anyone know where I can get the Chinese translated script for the Fate/ Stay Night game? I think someone posted this before (not sure if it's here), there's a site with the game's script translated line by line. If anyone knows please post or pm me. Thanks.

Anyone else think that Fate/Stay is just another generic fantasy/action anime with cliche characters and subpar plot? Shirou is just an idiot, Saber has no personality what-so-ever, Rin is just your typical tsundere character, and Archer's engrish is just unbearable (one of many examples of the terrible dialogue).

^ To quote someone I can't remember, Fate/Stay Night is basically a comercialized version of Tsukihime... and that guy was talking about the game. I'm still a fan of Type-Moon, though only because of the impression the PC Tsukihime left on me. I too grew disillusioned with Fate/Stay shortly after the anime came out. I can think of another hyped up title that went on my 'not getting the DVD' list this year. Haruhi. But whereas Haruhi doesn't suit my taste, I can't really say anything bad about it, since the writing and animation of it are actually very good. Fate/Stay though, became another unimpressive popular title with an inconsistent production.

I wouldn't say it's generic, it's slightly different but it does suffer in some parts that they could have expanded on, such as some backstory regarding Sakura/Rin and Shirou which was hinted at if you knew anything about the game's story.

Posted by: Nomake Wan Sep 1 2006, 11:23 AM
True, it did seem to go a little too fast--having heard bits and pieces of the plot from someone who's actually played through all the game's storylines, it's way more intricate than at first glance. Which is sad--why must every single Type-Moon Anime conversion be made in a rush and not cover everything it should? Now granted, I'm more than happy that they used the Unlimited Blade Works storyline and included Gilgamesh and all that. But I still felt parts (like Bozzy said, the Rin/Sakura bit) were much too fast.

Posted by: xkhol Sep 1 2006, 12:03 PM
Yeah, I'm just going to assume the games were MUCH better. But seriously, this is like the worst thing I've ever seen in any anime sleep.gif

So Chidoki, how far have you seen F/SN so far? What are your thoughts?

FYI, the predecessor to the FS/N game, Tsukihime, has finally been translated into English, and guess what? The translators aren't forcing fans to break their support disc, take a photo of the fan with the broken disc, then run off a bunch of answers to some questions relating to the game, and including a nude pic of the fan to get the translation like some other groups have done recently... tongue.gif

So Chidoki, how far have you seen F/SN so far? What are your thoughts?

I'm finished it finally...yay. So far I'm surprised at the amount of animation quality used in this series.

Yes I do know of the 3 different stories and aware about Hollow Antaraxia if it will ever be animated that is and hoping smile.gif which I can't comment enough.

It's not the most complex anime but has great character design in terms of like a bishonen/bishojo/magical girl type of design thrend that is.

Not something I'd recommend to everyone apparently, but I know the types that would watch it. Yes I recommend it to myself and certain fans.

After reading and comparing to watching it, I kinda expected more story about the Archer/Shiro connection which left some open ended answers that can only be seen in the game, and more about Rider (because Rider reminds me a lot about a certain character I was creating before in my own story series).

Ending makes me sad laugh.gif besides I love it how anime series ends that way making me want more of the show but it's the end.

If Hollow Antaraxia will be animated, I'm wondering how it will connect to the with the cannon ending of Fate Stay Night is.

Lastly, anyway for me to see the games/novel BOZZ? What's the links and such so I can follow it up. I have to know everything about them cuz I'm kinda a collector of information and I can't get enough of them with lack of info.

My rating actually, not something I'd show to certain friends, but something I'd show to true anime enthusiasts of all genres.

Type-Moon and Nitroplus, two of Japan's most successful PC game development studios, have announced plans to collaborate on the creation of a prequel to the best selling adult PC game Fate/stay night. Fate/Zero will be set ten years before the events depicted in Fate/stay night. Details about the game will be revealed publicly at Comic Market 71, scheduled for December 29-31.

I guess this and Zero will finish the story up...

Nice...the anime series did leave some gaps to me (probably because i wanted to see like all three versions as one but oh well). But aside from what I wish, hope it's promising.

Baka Tsuki is working on the Fate/Zero novel.

They've finished translating the prologue, and I must say it gives you a bit of a surprise:

Indeed it does, I'm surprised by the surprise in the prologue... ><

Bump!

Just saw this and yea i know i'm slow. What are you gonna do? Smash me? Then revive me and smash me again another five times? Cuz that's what happened to Shirou and to be honest it was just getting ridiculous the number of times he must've died in the series, that and how useless he was (although he does manage to pull a whole bunch of crap outta his arse by the end of the series, namely that uber hax scabbard, which has gotta amount to something right? lol =P) tongue.gif

Anywayz F/SN was okay, not too great and not too bad either, just decent, an above average show at best i reckon. It started off as sub-par and and only ever got slightly better =/

I dunno, perhaps i was just disappointed by setting my expectations that tad bit too high or whether it was because of the bland main character, i mean the guy's a total idiot and by the end he still remains useless idiot with little to no character development at all.
Thank god, Saber developed a bit better at least, i mean you can actually see her transform going from 'a warrior first, and women second' to 'a women first and warrior second'. That scene when she confesses her feelings to Shirou at the end demonstrates exactly that imo.

But ultimately, it's more the ending than characters that really defines an anime imo as it is the last impression that you ever get of a show. One of the reason why i was able to enjoy and appreciate F/SN anime a bit more was because of it's bittersweet ending imo. Sure it wasn't anything ground-breaking, and could be argued as fairly typical, but a sense of closure and impact was there at least.

However what probably hurt the show most would be the lack of character insight imo. I mean half the time guys just show up and we don't even get a proper explanation of their motives or reasoning behind their actions. Good thing i did my HW and read up a bit afterwards though, but that's besides the point.

But like what others have said before me, perhaps they tried to cram too many things in too late, and this is what we ended up with as a result. A 'rushed' Fate/Stay Night anime with numerous flaws scattered throughout. I'm pretty sure a lot of the game fans must've been disappointed considering that even i was disappointed, someone who hasn't even touched the game, yet can tell that the anime by far pales in comparison.

With regards to some of your concerns with character introductions, I have a feeling it was a matter of trying to follow the story with a limited time frame.

The bittersweet ending however has me thinking that any Type Moon game adaptations will have a bittersweet end... ><

Yea true, you're probably right. There probably was too much material they tried to fit in. Although it would've been nice of them to go into Archer's backstory at least, but given that they were mainly focusing on the 'Fate' storyline and not 'Unlimited Blades Work', it comes of as not much of a surprise i guess =/

They kind of hinted at his backstory, but if you weren't overly aware of the actual background story from the game you wouldn't really catch it.

Posted by: bROCKoLEE Oct 11 2007, 12:42 AM
Yea that was one of the problems with the anime i reckon, they hinted just for the sake of hinting. I think just before caster died, there was some random flashback about her past and they just left it at that. Obviously it was suppose to be hinting at something but they never really did anything with it apart from "look, have a flashback kthxbye lulz" =/

But with Archers case i don't think they really planned to go into his back story at all, why else would they make him have an incomplete summoning and having him lose his memory =/

True, but wasn't Archer always an incomplete summoning in the games?

Posted by: bROCKoLEE Oct 11 2007, 06:17 AM
Yea you're right he was an incomplete summon in the game too, my bads lol =P But his memory loss was an anime only thing right or was that in the game too? cat.gif <-- yea i just felt like being random lulz

Well I am sure that in one route he is definitely an incomplete summon with memory loss, I think it was the case with the other two routes as well...

Posted by: Chidoki Oct 11 2007, 10:38 PM
I still thought the biggest loss in the story is the True Assassin. But if they do decide to release a Fate-Zero with all those Assassins, then I guess it isn't really a complete loss as much as the Archer memory loss one.

Teaser for the upcoming movie is up. Now there are many possibilities to what alternate story points this version may have. You guys know what I'm talking about. But for now it's only a teaser site so no teaser trailer yet.

So it's confirmed the film is based on Unlimited Blade Works

Posted by: BOZZ Aug 5 2009, 09:53 PM
Nice... Glad to hear it's a new story rather than a continuation or prequel of the TV series.

Posted by: bROCKoLEE Aug 7 2009, 04:47 AM
Still by the same director, same script-writer and same team it seems.... We'll see how it goes i guess. =/

Finally got it d/l took a while to d/l for me sad.gif. But yes my friends did say it was all fighting which is fine, as long as it passes by what we already know previously from the FSN series perspective.

Unlimited Blade Works is awesome.

Too bad no True Assassin and Sakura and Saber Alter. sad.gif Will be waiting for Heaven's Feel for that. :3

Didn't really have an ending either, with different Gilgamesh from the original anime series.

Makes me wondering, though; what do the last few lines after the credits mean? Unlimited Blade Works chant?

Ah, so this is the series that the meme was born from...

So we're getting a F/SN remake. I can't wait for this. I don't get the hate for DEEN's version since I don't think it was that bad, but this is certainly going to be a major improvement. From what I can see, it looks gorgeous.
