A) I've been driving an improved touring car for the past two months doing winter testing/development for next season. B) When you do, uh, ANYTHING in motorsports, then we can have this talk. Until then, you dont know what's needed for anything. You're another armchair racer who has no viable track time, no record book, no experience worth talking about. I never really had the time/money to do anything till this year. I'll tell you what I do have though, pit experience. And I know that no matter where you are, winning is dependent on the price tag of your car. I don't plan on being a frontrunner anywhere. Might as well be a middle of the pack finisher in a series with spectators. |

If you had ANY real experience, you'd know this isn't true in the amateur ranks. At the Runoffs/Nationals sure, but for regular folk, this is only the case about half the time. http://www.pcapotomac.org/images/autocross..._Baysox_Raw.pdf I think it's safe to say that I had the cheapest piece of crap there. Unless you have any real financial backing, your only spectators are going to be your fellow competitors, perhaps their families and maybe a dog or two. If you dont have a good amount of capital, set your sights lower so you can be something aside from an "also ran". This post has been edited by flohtingPoint on Dec 20 2010, 09:55 AM

I'm with you, it would be neat to see something like that, but with the money you're going to invest in a Scion Tc and convert it into a RWD (let's just use the Scion for the sake of this example, though I know you're not going to), you can use the money for something that is already RWD and a better car overall. But, to answer your question, with enough time and money, you sure can. |

Ever go to a circle track? They have dickheads there who will spend 10 grand in an attempt to win $500 bucks. Win they do. I don't want to be a big fish in a small pond like yourself, I think it would be more fun to run with the big boys. Nothing wrong with being an "also ran," if that's all you expect. Oh, and on weekends when you don't bite off more than you can chew, you can still run in autox/rallyx. I plan on getting an SCCA and/or NASA membership, running in autox/rallyx events and track days. I fully expect to suck. I also have dreams of running a regional Group 2 car in RallyAmerica, despite the uncertain fate of said organization. I expect to suck here too, but I won't suck due to a lack of effort.

Kid, it's painfully obvious you dont know shit about amateur motorsports. I'm in the DC region, one of the three largest regions in the country. We have multiple national champions/national trophy winners from this region. Do some f**king homework. Like I said, when you actually do something worth talking about, we can continue this conversation.

If you're talking about Tanner's, you're wrong. Tube frame body is illegal in Formula D. In fact, you're not really allowed to cut much beyond the strut towers back. You can cut off as much as you want in front of the strut towers. Basically they just made him a tranny tunnel and called it a day, which was seriously pushing the rules enough as is, hence one of the reasons he's going back to a 4 banger next season. We're pushing the rules quit a bit with my car by cutting out a bit of the tranny tunnel, 'cause with a factory FR car, you're not really supposed to touch anything. If you're not talking about Tanner's car, disregard, I am a faggot.

Yes... that's nice. We already covered that anything is possible with enough funding. It's still a silly idea and not worth the time of the average enthusiast.

MASTER PROCOKER Group: Advanced Members Posts: 1,541 Member No.: 312 Joined: Mar 17th 2003 Location: SUNNNYVALE, CA | Ive seen at least one eg civic converted to fr at a car show, but it is nowhere near cost effective and probably a monumental pain in the ass. If you thank about it, it involves a lot more than just swapping a different motor and tranny. you're going to have to re-engineer at least the rear suspension in order to get the axle and differential housing to fit and not scrape etc. But like i assume everyone says. Anything is possible with a hammer, cutting torch, and credit card |

Renault actually did this. You heard of their humble Clio hatchback? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...ue_Facelift.JPG They turned a humble FF grocery-getter into a fire-breathing MR monster with the Clio Renaultsport V6. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...naultClioV6.jpg If you know your motoring history, Lotus also did this with their classic Europa. That MR car was powered with a Renault engine meant for FF installations. This post has been edited by Type 100 on Jun 21 2011, 02:09 AM

Just get a Volvo 240 and drop in a 5.0. Problem=solved. FF to FR/MR is just a massive waste of time. This post has been edited by Thir13Teen on Jun 23 2011, 03:25 PM

And have me sell my 850 to buy a plane ticket to go there and slap him if he did that. The 240 was made to have a 2.1 or 2.3...Anything else bigger and made of cast iron (302 Windsor "5.0") would disrupt the balance of the car and make it handle like a mustang aka massive weight up front and no weight to counter it on the back, making it prone to spinning out like mustangs and crown vics, etc. 240s are SOHC but if i had one it would have this.... Image size reduced, original size: 3264 x 2448. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. And if your a Group A nut like me you'll see why id never do such a thing to a 240. "Nevertheless, the 240 Turbo proved a successful competitor. In Group A racing form, the 240 weighed less than 1,100 kg (2,425 lb), and its turbocharged 2.1-litre engine produced more than 350 bhp (261 kW; 355 PS). Although the 240 was a big car and lacked the agility of some of its competitors, it was fast in a straight line and it was very reliable." Now dropping a 5.0 into a miata is another thing....
