How hard would it be to implement?

I just read a post that I would have clicked a "like" button if IDWF would have had one. smile.gif

It's really not hard. The code is already written over at WME forums, just needed some tweaks to make it work here. We implemented the facebook like button for a few days before and it drastically increased the load time by up to two seconds per page. That is just unacceptable. Implementing our own like button will be the way to go. I want to see how many people would actually use it though because there is a slight load time penalty even with custom implementation.

Well Perry, 11 votes for wanting it if it has no effect on the forum, 3 votes against, I guess you need to make it so it has no effect on the forum ( or at least so it doesn't seem like it does tongue.gif ).

Duly noted. I will roll out the feature within a week or two. Lots of testing will be done, that's for sure. smile.gif

Oh Jesus, I am sorry. I forgot about this project...

Something happened at the end of August and I was distracted for the longest time. I've been back now since November. I'll start working on this project again. This time I will be more careful with my words and not give an actual ETA. ^^;;

To be honest, I think that the like button is a bad idea. I feel that it will take away from users posting because they will just hit the like button instead. Conversations will devolve into lame one-two post discussions with everyone else just taking a side and liking the post that they agree with the most. But then again that's just my thoughts on the matter.

Personally I like having seemingly thoughtful conversations where the participants are actively including their ideas on the matter rather than people sitting around in a tight circle nodding at each other in agreement.

I've brought that point up before, and it was brought to my attention that actually the only posts it will really stop from appearing are one-word ones like "this", "lol", "PERRY WHERE'S MY LIKE BUTTON?" and other useless garbage like that. So it's definitely a good idea.

Very true. Either way I don't think I'll be using the feature if it ever comes out. When I typically agree with something I usually have something to add to the discussion.

We need that more than we need a like button, but we can't flip a switch and make people do that like we can to add a like button here (okay it's more than flipping a switch, but you get the idea) so we do what we can do.

It doesn't quite work out that way.

Rather than rehashing previous discussions, I'll just post links to posts:

Why is this not a thing yet - what's holding us back?

I believe it benefits us as a whole - I mean, the human species - to be freed from the oppression of having to textually state they like a post or submit once again to the gods of the internet, begging to them in a public setting for their prayers to be answered, all in the form of a feature of a forum, a digital thumb of approval.

Please free us from these binds and let us like. Our future depends on it.

It is on the list of things that will happen. Right now it's impossible. Perry is the sole person that has access to the site's code, and he's currently out of the US. When he gets back, I will harp on him to make this a feature.

Whenever he gets around to it, that's OK, there's more important things in life. I think Rudy was being overly dramatic to be funny. laugh2.gif
