Recently I started having problems with my engine stalling immediately following a cold start. After some research, I found that a dirty throttle body was the likely culprit. Went about cleaning it yesterday; started it and the car cranked fine again.  Driving it around today I noticed some strange RPM dips in 5th gear when coasting downhill and when slowing down, a subtle push in the engine as it downshifted into 1st. Nothing severe but definitely noticeable. After cleaning the throttle body, I put the car in the engine on position without starting it for 60 seconds initially to reset the computer. Not sure if I really reset the computer to factory settings. |

| Without knowing the car it's hard to say. However, generally resetting a computer is done by disconnecting the battery and letting the car sit, for instance with the door open. Once all residual power is drained and the volatile memory is reset, done. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

| An 08' Mazda 3 with the 2.3L. I was doing some additional reading and found that disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes would reset the computer codes. Additionally, some noted that you also idle the engine for 20 minutes so the ECU learns the proper idle range after resetting it but that was being advised for new batteries. |

New batteries that could conceivably take 10-15 minutes to swap. Meaning the computer is reset. Sounds like something you should try.  [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

Have you check the Fuel Pressure in the engine? I'm taking a technician class and I find that when the idle or RPM isn't normal its either the compression or fuel pressure that might be the cause. Have a technician do a diagnosis on your Mazda or DIY with a scanner to see what might be the problem. Hope I could help you my man.  |

| Yep, properly resetting the computer seems to have fixed the unstable idling. Thanks for the input. |
