So my friend works at Mazda as a automotive service technician(mechanic) and hooked me up for a position as a lot attendent. I showed up on the interview and they asked me what times was I avaliable, wage's and stuff. It wasn't even an interview. Sadly, they couldn't hire me because I was only able to work full time in the Summer and only part time for the rest of the year because I still had to attend school. So now I plan on applying at other dealerships as a Lot Attendent. Any ideas in what types of questions then might ask? I'm pretty sure they are going to ask me a lot more than Mazda because it was literally a 3 minute talk.

For a lot attendant?

Not much more than that. Possibly a single interview with basic questions just to make sure you are not a psycho. wink2.gif

They'll probably just ask you questions based off of what you wrote on your resume and the usual wage, etc. questions. Just dress up nice for it even thought it's only a lot attendant job and be nice and ask questions as well. It shows your interested.

Those are useful suggestions too. Especially the dressing nice part. wink2.gif

Thanks. I have an interview with BMW and their training program (STEP) tomorrow. I've been thinking about it for that reason as well.

mazdaspec, have you thought about applying for higher-up positions like "lube" tech where you do oil changes, tires, etc.? If you're trying to be a mechanic, this is a much better path. While looking for jobs, employers like dealerships don't consider lot attendants as experience in the mechanic field. There isn't really much to learn when it comes to oil changes if you don't know, and you'll probably make more money.

Yeah, I am hoping to become a mechanic field in the future. But I'm still on my last year of high school so I'm not sure if my age is old enough to get a job like that. Are there any other jobs I could try applying? I'm turnin 17 next month with my Class 5 drivers licence.

I was doing oil changes and other little things when I was 17. It's like any other job. If you're old enough to bag groceries, you can work on cars. I went to school until 2:10 and then went to a Shell gas station and did oil + tires until 10:00. Saturdays were 7:00am to 6:00pm. I made a ton of money and learned a lot.

In my experience in job interviews, Entry level jobs are easy to get into if you have a really really flexible schedule per week.

Yeah, I'm willing to work full time in the summer, but the only problem is I can only work part time from sept - june. That's the only reason why Mazda wouldn't hire me. I'm not sure if any other dealerships will let me work part time during school hours. If I can't find anything, I'll probably just try an auto part store or something. I don't know yet.

Depends what their needs are. So pretty much you have to get lucky unless you have tons of experience in that field of work.

If you really want a job, don't tell them you'll only be there for a couple of months. This might not be the right thing to do, but just tell them a couple weeks before you need to quit that something came up/you have to quit soon.

I think the most common questions asked would be

1) Why do you want the job?
2) Why are you fit for the job?

and if you're working in the sales line, the boss would usually test you. Like for example, your advertising skills etc.

Others would be based on your resume. And NEVER ask about your pay.

haha yeah, I just dropped off my resumes off at dealerships close to my home

Honda - said they would see if they could find me a spot as lot attendent or detailing, but they are looking for spots as a delivery assistant and asked if I was interested. I replied yeah, sure I would be interested and handed them my resume and they said they would call me within a few days.

Toyota - said they are open for spots right now but they will keep my resume for 3 months and get a phonecall within those days.

Acura - asked when I was avaliable, part time or full time and what position. I said I'm avaliable in the beginning of August (Because i still have to work for the 2 week notice i gave to my workplace currently) and looking for a full time job during the summer and a part time job during Sept-June.

BMW - they asked the exactly same stuff as Acura and said they would give me a call in a couple of days.

I have some experience about interview.
Firstly, they will ask you to introduce yourself.
Secondly, they will ask you some questions about your specialized field.
Then, they may be curious about why you apply for their company;Maybe they also will ask you something what they're irrelevant to.

When you attand an interview, just be relax and confidence.

You don't have to be afraid of interviews.
Behave naturally when communicating. People feel false
