i finally found what i was looking for today mostly because i remembered to look for it. i got the se21 South Park DVD set and a new baseball hat from Lids. all my old hats are too old/dirty at the moment and its a fucking heat wave this week.

i chose a design from their catalog and some alternate colors for the design. cost me $40 ($47 with tax) but im happy with the design.

Well, bought a whole display of booster packs of Cybernetic Horizon from YGO TCG. Out of 216 cards I got several Super Rares, 4 Ultra Rares and 2 Secret Rares, but not the cover monster.

Price, cost of making something, and materials used in something are all very loosely related.

The materials used in something is actually a very small portion of the cost of making said object, and is an even smaller portion in determining the price.

For example, the materials composing a $150 Moto E and the materials composing a $1000 iPhone X is not very different. However, the cost of making these two phones are probably very different, and the price of these two phones are even more different.

Agreed. Your BOM (bill-of-materials; raw material cost) is not your actual cost. You still have to get it together, and that's going to cost additional money (which can be labor as well as sunken costs like the cost of a reflow solder facility, the stencils for your PCBs, the solder itself, etc). Then you have to factor in marketing and operational costs (as necessary/willing). Then you'll probably want a bit on top to make it all worthwhile...

...at which point you are probably right around the actual retail cost of the device in question.

And, actually, as expensive as a $1000 iPhone X is, if you had to make one yourself from scratch, it would probably cost you a whole lot more (just to get all the raw materials together in one place would probably cost more than $1000).

Yeah. As I've discovered myself through creating my first homebrew device, sometimes the fact that a part exists isn't enough to get it to you as a normal human being at a residential address with no history behind your name. There are parts that are only sold wholesale to name-brand companies, by companies who don't want to deal with small fries like us.

I would've bought the pink one but I wanted the most reflective non-heat absorbent color for when I'm putting it thru its paces in the +100° sun ~ 🌤

Cases & skins, no matter how white & thin they are, always add an unnecessary layer of heat to a phone under the sun...

The ideal thing would be not to carry a phone at all; but people need a music player/camera/telephone/etc while jogging. So it's best to choose one with a reflective/non-heat absorbent color like white.

Nonetheless I like the protection a case offers, so I bought one from Tech21. It's always a trade-off with electronics and dynamic activities like exercising. 🤷‍♀️

Choosing a phone is a very personal thing, to a slightly lesser degree, it's like choosing a computer or a car. Personally I look for 2 things in a phone, a great camera and great storage. ie. Pictures & Music, the two things I mainly use a phone for.

That said, these are my top 5 phones of 2018, and why:

1. Pixel 3 - killer camera
2. iPhone XS - great camera & killer storage
3. Razer 2 - hella amazing specs!but falls short of good storage & camera
4. Galaxy S9 - killer display & design!nice camera & storage
5. Huawei P20 Pro - best camera period ~ amazing design ~ so-so storage & software

Honorable mentions:

6. Asus ROG 1 - looks very promising
7. iPhone Xr - pretty colors!
8. Honor 8X - beautiful reflective red & blue design!bad specs

Your typo is making me look bad.

SPOILER

It was intentional. grin2.gif

Within the context of trying to say that the picture of the sun eclipsed by the clouds was beautiful (kirei). I used this character 奇 because it still means the same, albeit it's more archaic & denotes something peculiar more than beautiful. Whereas this character 綺 is the ordinary one used by most people, and denotes the universal connotation of something beautiful. The initial way I typed it was deliberate, to try to say that the pic of the sun looked beautiful, in a peculiar way!

My Japanese isn't perfect by a long shot! Nomake, J', and Meteor all have a better understanding of it than me. ^^
