If it's a custom build, though, you really have no excuse. If it's OEM, then well, you bought OEM, that's what you get. |

And in Spanish with a Русский handle nonetheless ~ I'm guessing there's no VLC for Win XP hence the Windows Media Player icon ~ Remember when Ryosuke had Windows 2000 when he made the Project.D homepage ~ a complete absurd and unfeasible domain name even in this day & age!

That's the same as using Windows 95 in 2010. Let that sink in for a bit.

That may have something to do with the fact that Microsoft themselves abandoned it in April 2014 so that it no longer gets security updates.

It was quick and dirty, following a very reasonable line of thought: I screenshotted my monitor @ a resolution of 4k IDW takes attachments of 250k I pasted the screenshot in Paint, saved the image as PNG, opened it in Photoshop, and compressed the unnecessary matter out of it (JPG 0 quality, 3 scan), and saved it I uploaded it using an attachment as this will fix the problem of the image getting deleted later off of wherever I uploaded it to, leaving a broken image here, and the inevitable question future wanderers who come here will have about what the picture was.
It's quite original. You could even say it IS the original Windows 10 wallpaper. Didn't see it posted on this thread yet! Edit: also, as a bonus, I had the browser opened to this thread, with the last post on it before I posted. I thought that was a nice touch... might just be me tho.
This wallpaper and your screen resolution has great synergy. This post has been edited by umustwait101 on Feb 8 2017, 04:08 PM

This isn't as reasonable as you think. There's no reason to paste the screenshot onto to paint, THEN edit it when Photoshop when you can paste directly to Photoshop. Its better to slightly resize a large images than to compress it. Squeezing the pixels together also means there's less bits needed for color (IE: two hues of blue equates to one hue when shrunk), in addition to there being less pixels. This means more perceivable quality in a lower file size. As for the broken link stuff, yeah it sucks, but this thread isn't really an archive, its for the here and now. Plus, if you wanted stuff for archival, you'd keep them in a higher quality yeah? Use an external image host, no need to over think it. Here's a 4k image I randomly grabbed off the internet, shrunk it down to 90% its original size, then compressed it and blurred it. It isn't great, but you'd be none the wiser to exactly how much better the original looked. It fits into the upload limit of 500k and gets the point across. Fact is, I'd shrink it down to 1080, and get more quality of it without a need to do a blur pass. Osaka-kun Group: Advanced Members Posts: 914 Member No.: 45,912 Joined: Sep 27th 2015 Location: Update Profile | So actually, this is a great topic. I was part of a talk once, and the discussion was exactly this subject - shrinking an image down vs compressing a huge image - and which image would look better at all resolutions. The conclusion the people arrived at was that compressing a huge image would be better than shrinking an image. If you blow up the shrunken image to its original size, it starts looking pixelated, whereas if you view the compressed image, you can still tell where all the pixels are. At scale, they both look passable. I used to do what you described - shrink an image down. This was actually the first time I decided to give compression a shot. I sure didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition. As for putting it in paint, I admit, that step was redundant. My image was 127K. Could you get an image, that when blown up to 4k will look as good as mine, under 250K, without doing the exact thing I did (or something along the same lines as my approach)? |
