Hello guys i am in need of some answers, here is the deal

A guy in a truck backed up into a family member's car which is from another state. The family member's car was PARKED in a parking lot. We have it on video. Now the accident happened on the 9th and the insurance expired today on the 13th. Family members did not take down the insurance info from the other driver but we did call the police and have a police report.

Now family member's insurance company is telling us that the car was not insured at the time of loss and cannot send an appraiser to inspect the car, but the time of accident was on the 9th and the insurance expired on the 13th.

Why would we be denied on claims???

family members insurance company has that proof, on video and pictures that accident happened and the police report on the 9th and insurance was still active on the 9th.

but insurance said they won't be able to get an appraiser out to look at the car because the insurance expired today.

which i dont understand.

hrm... what's the insurance company Geico? Allstate? Farmers? State Farm? Progressive? H&R Block? Fujiwara Tofu Shop?

Go to their offices in person and slap them silly with the proof. Talk to a manager. Bring somebody in a cop outfit. Threaten legal action. Bring your lawyer. Call the local Channel 6 news and have them make a story. Hire a detective to pinpoint the truck owner's coordinates, then slap him silly with the proof and tell him to pay for the damages. Add a donations PayPal button. Start a KickStarter. Make a eurobeat song out of it.

I don't know brotha... that's all I got.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Geico, especially when you go in person and shove a legal document down their green gecko throats. G'luck mang, hopefully going in person'll do the trick.

It is "American family Mutual Insurance company" which is located out by Iowa i believe, my family member's car was insured out there but the accident happened in NY first they tell us they would have to hire a appraiser to come to us because that insurance is not nation wide.

I would think that the person that HIT us which he is insured from Geico, wouldn't his insurance company come out and appraise it since it's his fault?

It is "American family Mutual Insurance company" ...

Sounds like a highly reputable business with surely no less than an A+ rating by the BBB.

It seems legitimate that you would have to actually have insurance in order to receive insurance. What problem do you have with renewing the insurance and going through the process as normal? I mean, you cannot legally drive the vehicle without insurance...so either renew the insurance like you should have done in the first place, or forget about the whole thing (because you weren't gonna drive that car anyway, right?).

Hrmm... a third-party claim may be worth a shot. Talk to Geico; in person with the proof.

Never filed a 3rd party claimzorz, but here's some quick Googly info:

Hope it helps mang. unsure.gif

edit:: family member does plan on driving the car, its an 09 civic with only 42,XXX miles.

So your family member was planning on driving their vehicle illegally?

I recommend that your family member renew their insurance and move on from there.

No, they had moved here from a different state which had to switched insurance company because the one they currently have didn't support New York State. The issue was that the car was insured when it got hit but there was a 5 day gap where the new insurance was going to take place and the current one they had was already cancelled 3 days after the accident.

This problem was fixed tho!! We had to call the insurance company from the driver who was at fault and filed a claim. We got it fixed for $1800 at their expense and the towing to the body shop cause it was not drive-able.

Problem solved!!!
