I know the timeline won't fit, he would be really old in present day but it would be really interesting to see him using it against more modern cars like R35, SE3P, DC5R/EP3R/FD2R, Z34, CT9A etc..

The timeline is a little weird in Initial D.
The earliest model of a 350Z is 2002.
We could say that Takumi was 19 in 2002 when he was in Project D.
So we could estimate that he's around the age of 30.

This whole time continuity thing and Takumi's age is starting to sound a lot like Ash and his never aging problem in Pokemon...

Except for the very first page of the very first volume, Initial D always took place in the present...

lol , a few comic or anime series use this time continuity to keep the characters the same age. I does happen more in comic strips ie the older series

If this were the case the Takumi would be 38 years old in 2014. And could possibly have a few D1 titles under his name. I could see him buying a GT86 to train his child the same way Bunta trained him.

Not seeing it. Takumi's less about snake drifting his way through a whole course and more about finding the absolute edge of traction. His style of drifting is the exact opposite of what gets points in drift competitions (subtle, fast and relatively grippy VS going really sideways all the time) so D1 doesn't really seem like his thing. Rallying seems more likely.

Also, Banken's post is less "Takumi is 38" and more "Initial D's timeline has always been set relatively close to the publication dates of its most recent chapters, meaning Takumi is as young in 2013 as he was in 2009".

.....And, going by that, any possibility of "Takumi's kid doing deliveries in a GT86" would take place 30 to 40 years from now, ensuring Takumi's kid has to drive a car even more outdated than what Takumi himself had and therefore achieves underdog status too (assuming the car is left mostly stock under the hood). That's Initial D pretty much restarting itself if that route ever gets taken.

Takumi doesn't actually appear in the first page, which is the only page to ever mention a date (Summer, 199X), so it doesn't if you want to get super pedantic, Initial D might have started as late as 1999, but as far as we know the actual story might have started at any later date.

Although they did mention the AE86 being a 10 year-old car and did technically give a six-year range of years for and Takumi and Itsuki's birthdays. They were 1st, 2nd, or 3rd graders elementary school when the AE92 came out according to Iketani...the 92 came out in 1987, so that means they were born between 1978 and 1981. Which would put the story at between 1996 and 1999 when taken at face value.

From takumi's reaction at the end of
The final stage, he is enamores
By it.

And being a delivery/truck driver, he can definitely afford it in japan as they are paid quite well.

So yes he will drivenit sooner or later(assuming he is a real person)
