"I was watching a movie with my mother in my house in Ankara, which is rather close to the Turkish Army Headquarters and the Presidential palace, and I started noticing the unusual number of airplanes flying over our house. Then the helicopters followed. I opened up the turkish social media, and we found out that a part of the army had blocked the bridges in Istanbul. Internet slowly started to slow down, and quickly the social media was unavailable.

We opened up news channels, they were talking about the "coup d'etat" and the turkish state television was seized. They did a quick broadcast, taking the exact same lines from the 1980 coup d'etat, and the broadcast ended.

We started hearing small weapon gunshots, then heavy ones (like from helicopters). We decided not to go out and the moment when I reached my phone to talk about it with my friends, a huge sound of explosion shattered every window of our appartement. For 3 hours, airplanes flew VERY low, we heard something like 3-4 explosions.

These are the facts, unbiased. Now, I really need to vent it out. When Civil war began in Yemen, the first thing the President did was to flee from the country. Why did Erdogan did not flee? The first thing he said, was : "this is a plot from Fethullah Gulen (his rival), the army are trying to take on the democracy. I ask the people to go out and stand in front of the army, in front of the tanks etc". The muezzins used minarets to call for holy war.

There is an impending economical crisis over Turkey, similar to the American one. Houses are built everywhere, they are given to people who cannot afford to buy them. Erdogan will use this to blame them (secular army, Fethullah) for the crisis, and will be even more bold and push his Islamist agenda even further. I really hope this won't be buried down" -Reddit User

QUOTE
Ankara has demanded Washington hand him over. Washington says it is prepared to extradite him but only if Turkey provides evidence linking him to crime. Yildirim rejected that demand.

"We would be disappointed if our (American) friends told us to present proof even though members of the assassin organization are trying to destroy an elected government under the directions of that person," Yildirim said.

I found out through my dad, who asked me "What's going on with the coup in Turkey?"

I told him I had no idea why he was asking me about turkey coops.

I haven't been keeping up with it, but from what I gather, it was put down rather quickly.

The coup was executed too soon from what's been reported. They also underestimated the amount of support Erdogan still had in the military. It looks like Erdogan is going to use this to clamp down even harder on any and all opposition. Will be interesting to see what response that gets in 3-6 months from his population, particularly those that don't like him.

Wouldn't be surprised if Putin is grinning ear to ear at all of this.

Guess there's some videos out there, one that caught my interest was one of a couple being shot by a guy in a helicopter, on live television.

Surprised the film crew didn't get hit.
