Just a matter of priorities, I guess. I'm not sure how an anime adaptation would hurt them; if anything, some of them might look better. Imagine a tough-looking R200 Club or a sexy Reina (she's supposed to a pop idol, fer cryin' out loud). Real-life freeway incidents? I wouldn't worry. The things that get copied the most are the cool-looking stunts that might actually be doable. I haven't heard of a single incident about someone driving down a freeway backwards or jumping off a ramp onto a boat. What's more, the kind of cars you see in WM are expensive, especially with the modifications required to get them to 600HP. This is simply too rich for your typical noodlebrain-with-a-car's blood. What worries me, aformentioned by the previous posters, is the eventual increase in racing around the freeways. Lord knows we need more devil Z wannabes on the so.cal freeways. |

IDW God Member Group: Members Posts: 189 Member No.: 2,344 Joined: Jul 23rd 2004 Location: Update Profile | Have you seen The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift? The one thing that really stood out was that nearly every car that raced in it was destroyed. Even the ones that didn't crash took a heavy beating. The street racing was portrayed as extremely dangerous and very likely to end in disaster. Wangan Midnight is very much the same; I doubt even 20% of the races don't have a blowout or wreck. And the hero, Akio, begins his racing career with MULTIPLE smashups. When Takumi Fujiwara executes a flawless gutter turn and Kai Kogashiwa makes effortless Irohazaka jumps, there's a danger that some dolt will get the wrong idea. When someone in an 800 HP beast slams into the guardrail or spins into an approaching semi, tearing down the freeway at over three times the speed limit all of a sudden doesn't seem so attractive anymore. So I wouldn't worry. And besides, where the hell are you going to get an S30, let alone one that's that freakin' fast? (Man, I could use some updates. Production schedule, early stills, voice actors, anything. This is too cool to leave hanging.) |

I'd be more of afraid of that thing breaking down than anything. My aunt had one when she was in college and she's like 53 now I think. xD They look nice.. but not my cup of tea if I want to cruise(I said cruise not speed! )on the expressway. |

Yeah, that would be cool, but it'll be the new craze! Replicating Takumi's AE86 will be history and the next generation of repicas/ricer replicas will be a bunch of Z sports cars crashing on highways worldwide! As if we needed to lose any more..... j/k I hated the Initial D art until I started liking cars and discovered Initial D. I then slowly got accustomed to the characters looks. For those of you who don't like the characters, we'll probably slowly grow to like it. Dam, that post sucked.....

Nope, I am assuming it's from a lack of general interest from mainstream anime fans and news sites. Anime News Network doesn't even have an entry for the anime yet. Oh well, it is filled with "ugly manga people" (a reference to an IGN review of the Wangan game). j/k
