They are bringing Blu-ray to Initial D Fifth Stage and Final Stage. They are calling this the "Initial D Premium Blu-ray BOX Pit3" which is slated for release on 2015/03/20. You can pre-order it now in the links below. But first, what's in it? Good question, us fans have the right to know what is contained in this box that they are selling for 31,968 yen ($264.53) From the description, this box contains five Blu-ray discs and one music CD. » Disc 1~3 is Initial D Fifth Stage (All 14 episodes) » Disc 4 is Final Stage (All 4 episodes) » Disc 5 is a digest version of First, Second, Third and Fourth Stage. (Think of it like battle stage clips in High Definition) And finally, the music CD contains non-stop Eurobeat music used in Fifth and Final Stage. Also there are deluxe booklets on Initial D material; a very nice luxury-looking storage box for the discs. But all these for over $260?! Isn't it a bit expensive? You are right. That's why avex is also throwing in a special 1/24 scale Fujiwara Tofu Shop version AE86 model with this Premium box. This AE86 model is different than the 1/18 version from AUTOart ( http://facebook.com/764494833566184 ) This one is smaller but it's just as detailed as the 1/18 version. This one also seem to have the roll cage (!) which was installed in Fifth Stage. So think of this exclusive version as the most up-to-date scale model of the Initial D Fujiwara AE86. Anyways, this is not for everyone due to the price tag. If you do decide to take the plunge and get this, take some nice pictures for those of us who can't afford it. Ha ha, it's a shame they didn't put more effort into them, but I guess they wanted to make a cheap buck...

Too bad no Michael Bay, or exploding Evo 3 in obvious CGI. At least the AE86 model is very accurate, with roll cage, and no door visors. These things. They were always there in the manga, anime, and the games, until the final battles.

I'm a fan and I don't give a shit about that level of accuracy. Takumi only had 16 strands of hair on his bangs in second stage compared to 13 in first. Conspiracy? This post has been edited by Tessou on Mar 11 2015, 10:27 PM

Makes me wonder if they actually look better than what they did with First Stage "upscale"...

More NEGATIVE than a black hole Group: ADMINISTRATOR Posts: 19,345 Member No.: 12,263 Joined: Sep 12th 2005 Location: Update Profile | I'm going to venture to guess that they probably look better than the first box, only by virtue of having newer content within anyway. I do not believe they'd go to the trouble of putting a direct-from-film print of Third Stage on Bluray, so it's probably an upscale. Fourth Stage, who knows. |

Shmuck Group: Members Posts: 2 Member No.: 45,334 Joined: Mar 12th 2015 Location: Update Profile | I own both Blu-ray boxes that came out so far, and I can confirm that Third Stage was not upscaled. They actually gave it a new HD telecine from the original 35mm film, although they applied a lot of DNR to it. As for Fourth Stage, it couldn't be anything other than an upscale because it was digitally animated in standard definition, but it's still a big improvement over the DVDs for a simple reason: it's anamorphic, not letterboxed. Really, as disappointed as I was with the hideously upscaled version of First Stage included in the first boxset, the second one is well worth buying because it includes the best versions of Third Stage and Fourth Stage ever released. I'm also excited about this upcoming third BD-box, because Fifth Stage and Final Stage were both animated in native high definition (as evidenced by the raws captured from Animax's special airing of the first two episodes, not to mention some promotional screenshots), which means they'll benefit from a Blu-ray release much more than Fourth Stage did. I just wish it was a bit cheaper, considering it only includes 18 episodes, a music CD and a recap special, but I guess the model kit is supposed to make up for that. IS THERE EVER A CHANCE THAT YOU COULD UPLOAD THE SECOND BD PIT? (PIT2?) I REALLY WANNA SEE 1080p ANYWAYS i have both the third and fourth stages on DVD and they're not that great with quality... PLUS I'M A HUGE FAN OF THIRD STAGE. (SW20 is my dream car lol) SO IF I COULD SEE THAT BLUE MONSTROSITY IN 1080p THAT'D BE GREAT!
