First off, I've been driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. Whenever I go to University of Michigan, which is like 90 miles away, I always park at this parking garage. And whenever I leave(usually sits there for about 3 hours or so) the car likes to accelerate all by itself.

I can keep my foot off the gas and the car will go up to about 35-40mph by itself.
And whenever I put it in park when I come home. You can see the rpm's climbing up and it gets louder and louder. I don't if it's just from it sitting in the parking garage or what.. But it seems like it always happens whenever i pull out of there and lasts till i get home and a little bit the next day. I'll see tomorrow if it's still doing it.

But does anyone know what the problem might be?

Check the throttle cable. if its drive by wire thats a serious issue and needs to be checked and fixed immediately. Id seriously consider not driving the car while this is going on, thats a major issue.

Yeah, sounds like your throttle cable is sticking. Thoroughly inspect it to see if it's rubbed through and possible catching on something. If it's visibly fine, disconnect it from the throttle body and spray some WD-40 down through the shielding, see if that fixes it.

Worst case scenario, replace it.

It sounds like a malfunctioning CPU temp sensor. The sensor can occasionally be replaced, but mostly it is built into the motherboard. Otherwise it can sometimes be switched off. You may like to get a new motherboard if your current one isn't to knew/expensive.

Why in the hell would a temp sensor cause the engine to race?

EDIT: Jesus, man, this is the automotive forums, not the computer forums. Did you even read the thread? You are in the way wrong place to be handing out computer advice.

I'm with the guys suggesting issues with either the throttle cable or the throttle position sensor. That's some seriously scary shiz.

Considering his herp-derp response in the First Autocross thread that ignored... well the whole thread, I'd say it's a derpiness issue. tongue.gif

PSP FTW.

Nah, it's only scary when it sticks at WOT. Had that happen once on the Talon on an onramp. Went to shift and HOLYf**kREVLIMITER. Stomped the pedal a couple times and it unstuck. WD-40'd it, and haven't had an issue since.

Calhouncam is probably a spambot of some sort. They've been on another forum I goto & occasionally their auto posts are relevant to thread funnily enough, but mostly not.
