I don't know where you got 3 cabs from, we definitely have 4 of them. But yeah, Japanese version, offline, so we only have up to Tsukuba in Story Mode, and no access to Momiji or Hakone in Time Attack, and no Evo6, ER34, or BRZ. Also no 2v2 cause apparently THAT needs to be an online update.

Also there seems to be problems with having 1v1 battles between the A & B machines, as in A1 & A2 can battle and B1 and B2 can battle, but A1 can't battle B1 or B2 and such. I know they're all connected because the Time Attack records are all consistent between the machines, so idk what gives.

As for what it says under "Insert Coins", I don't recall it saying anything underneath it.

Yeah there's 4, my mistake.

I stopped by R1 weekend before last for bemani and was absolutely shocked to see ID8 in there haha. I'm not really close enough to go regularly but next time I make a trip out there I'm hoping some better players are around, noone else was playing at all during my trip.

Other than one credit on an ID4 cab this was my first time playing something newer than 3 and woooow this game has changed a lot. Really interested in learning the new mechanics because high level play looks really fun from what I've seen.

Word from the wise, don't settle in to anything until you've full-tuned your car. The gameplay changes drastically once you're full-tuned, and even the difference between the 2nd to last step and full-tuned is quite a lot.

Also I recommend joining two facebooks groups in regards to this: the Round 1 Chicago Network group and the US ID8 Infinity group. Drop a post in the Round 1 group next time you're going, myself and NBK are there a lot.

I'm actually already in the R1 group! I was the guy that posted the screenshot in reply to that pendual event thread haha. Checking the other group out right now, I was poking around of an ID facebook group earlier.

While I likely won't be able to play at R1 very regularly, the arcade I go to in ohio for 2dx currently is actually getting a pair of ID7 cabs before the end of January. I'm sure there are a lot of differences between the games but from what I've seen playing on that should go a long way in getting me used to how the newer games handle.

Do you have any advice for getting started with the newer games? As I understand it most of the techniques only really work with full tuned cars, so what should I be doing right out of the gate?

For 8, the way to drive a non fulltune car is to minimize steering movement. Turn the wheel in a gentle manner, and try to turn a small degree. Let full brake and drift do the rest of the steering.

For 7, it doesn't matter. Just turn the steering as much as you like on speccs lower than spec 4. Also, there is no need to brake on low specs.

Is there any sort of overview of the cars and their characteristics for the newer games? I always drove the SW20 in V3 but with everything so different I imagine it'll take a bit to settle into something. Just based on cars I like I'm really interested in the NSX and 86 coupe.

I am just gonna say... all 86s are somewhat OP.

You should check out the stickied "Car Rankings Version 1-8" thread. Just click on the link for D8 on the first post of the topic. It would then give you the comparative TA rankings for all the cars. And the tool is useful for isolating what cars are good at what set of courses.

But for maximum power yeah, AE86s are OP.

There's also an interactive chart that's updated weekly on course performances. Version 8 Graph you can also compare two cars (red vs blue) by pressing on the right option and if you checkmark it you can lock one car to be red and compare it with the others.

^Does the car balance thing apply for offline in-store battles as well?

I believe it only applies to online battles specifically. So 86s are still ridiculously strong.
