I knew this day would come eventually. As of this post, I am no longer a part of the IDW Moderating Team. Retiring from the Administrator position has been in the back of my mind in recent years, but I didn't give it a more serious thought until a few months ago.

I started this site almost 15 years ago. Through the years, I've made many friends through the site and the forums. And I've always maintained and kept up with all the happenings around the site and the forums. I guess you can say I devoted half of my life in this. And if I could choose again, I would do it all over again. There are no regrets. I loved being in the Administrator position. It's an honor and your continuous support has always been my motivation to make a even better community.

But due to personal life, this lifestyle can no longer be sustained. I am sure some of you have noticed. your messages hit a black hole when you tried to contact me online. Not just here, but on other social platforms. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I sincerely apologize for the lack of response. I am having a hard time juggling through life right now. Starting a family is never easy. I am sure you understand.

So this is where I pass the torch, to better leaders. Everyone, please congratulate kyonpalm on becoming part of the Admin team. This change was discussed at length between Tessou and I. We came to a consensus that kyonpalm will be a valuable addition to the Admin team. Let me quickly go over what everyone's responsibilities are in this change of management.
  • kyonpalm will be actively working on reaching out to the general membership and getting feedback from users. He will be responsible for most day-to-day operations on the forums. In simple terms, he'll be the front-runner, leading the rest of the Moderating Team. He will have final say in almost all situations. (which includes (re)structuring the Moderating Team)
  • Tessou, on the other hand, will assume a position that only step in when the situation requires his input, which I expect to be a very rare occurrence. Tessou's responsibilities are keeping the Moderating Team balanced and functioning in unison. His job is to minimize any infighting that may exist in the team. He holds the veto power in major decision-making process.

My title as of this post has been changed to "Site Owner." I will be relieved of all Administrative duties and all forums affair. My only responsibility are keeping the site/forums up and running; fix and patch all security exploits; fulfill and implement features requested by users. Basically, I will be the go-to guy for technical problems, which I have been doing for quite awhile now anyways.

There will also be a Moderating Team restructure in the near future, but I will let the new Admin team fill you in on that. We worked very hard in the past weeks on that.

With that said, thank you all for the experience. I will see you all around the forums.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate what Perry had done for us in all these years. Initial D World had became an important hangout for me. I wish you the very best with all the challenges you are facing now and in the future.
We will see you around Perry. smile.gif

I will be looking at the forum from a strategic perspective, as I've been settling into, hence my reduction in daily public activity. I know a lot of people have voiced their concerns publicly and privately, to my face and third-hand, regarding the amount of power I wield over the forum. The solution to that is twofold: have an equal that will keep me in check and honest, and truly split responsibilities so that nobody runs the show themselves.

Kyonpalm has been a terrific moderator that deserves more praise than he's received in his many years of service to the forum. While I didn't personally recommend him for a promotion to start the chain of events that lead to this announcement, I accepted it immediately when the idea was presented, because it made a hell of a lot of sense. Kyon is among the group of members that both cares deeply about the forum, and accepts a mantle of responsibility to it. I saw his potential to step up to the challenge of forum moderation well ahead of his actual promotion in 2010. Now, it's an extreme pleasure to see him move up to the highest position and usher in a new era for the forum. He's been unofficially the head moderator for long enough, dammit. Time to shine.

Notably, IDW is going to see some changes within a week. Kyon and I are going to be making some final decisions on staff positions that have been hemmed and hawed over for the past few weeks. The democracy poll results will be one of our first points of discussion now that voting has trailed off. Expect a lot more immediate action taken on things since Kyon and I are on the ball with communication.

Finally, a gigantic "thank you" is in order for Dragon Emperor Perry. This guy has worked his ass off, wrote books of custom code, and spent immeasurable sums of his own money over thirteen years to keep this site going. Now he's finally able to be lazy and nobody can chide him for it. You deserve the rest, you cheeky bastard. biggrin.gif

Let's see how the end of the week plays off, i'll either give it a thumbs up, or be that old man who won't accept it, either way, deal wit it.

When you brought this up in the mod team meeting a few weeks back, I can't say I was surprised. Life at its bare basics brings with it plenty of stress, let alone the extras that we tack on in the names of passion, community, and enjoyment. You've put so much of yourself; your life, your time, your money into this board that you deserve an indefinite break, and nobody here can rightfully disagree. You've done so much for us, and those of us who are and have been on staff have had, and continue to have no problems giving back wherever necessary, and it's an honor to be here to help see you off to as life takes you another direction. There's always a seat for you here should you return with your passion renewed, though we all know you're not leaving us completely.

Godspeed, good luck, and keep us posted on whatever the future has in store for Ol' Pearbear. smile.gif

I'm glad to see things moving in a new direction! Perry, I'm sorry if it seemed like I was angry with you. I just had no idea what was going on. I mean, I still have no idea, but that is another can of worms I'm not looking to open here. I sincerely hope that things get better for you and I wish you the best.

Congrats kyon on getting admin! I'm proud of you and I have high expectations. smile.gif

I've gone through a bunch of different stuff to say, but...

Good luck with whatever you choose to do. I may be a new member by everyone else's standards, but I still appreciate everything you've done, Pear.

Excited to take on the role, change is a comin', yadda yadda. The big news here is Perry stepping down - not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but big thanks for entrusting me with the spot. I'll be making a thread detailing the first changes (some of which have already been enacted for those with keen eyes), so stay tuned.

That is very interesting to know. 150x150 feels so much larger than 100x100 for some reason.

Because it's not just 50 pixels, it's 50 square pixels. It is a huge difference.

Allow me to join everyone else in saying thank you for all your years of service to these forums, Perry. This site still keeps running well and the community in it is still a good one. You've done a great job overall, and you have more than earned your break. I'm glad you'll still be around, by the way. Good luck with wherever life takes you from here.

And of course, congratulations to kyonpalm on his promotion to admin. I've seen this coming for a while and I know he'll be doing a great job as well. He's definitely proven himself suitable for the role, and I'm happy we have someone like him on the admin roster. You've earned this too, kyon. smile.gif
