How hot do you think an intake manifold can get?

I have a small crack at the end of the rubber tubing from the air filter box where it touches the intake manifold. I was thinking about using some silicone to plug up the hole as a temporary fix until I can afford a new tube from the dealer.

I drive a 2000 lexus es300.

Use a heat shrink sleeve if you can. Honestly though, you can get rubber hose from an auto parts store, they have it it big rolls. Just get a segment to replace it.

How would I use a heat shrink sleeve? The intake has about a 2 3/4 in outer diameter.

The crack starts right at the end of the rubber hose and is splitting from there. I wrapped the crack with electric tape, but the problem is the very end of the hose.

I will post a pic as soon as I get a hold of a camera.

Don't post a pic, just go to your local O'Reilly/Napa/Autozone/whatever and take the hose in with you, you'll walk back out with a suitable replacement.

Most of the time it'll get no hotter than coolant temp (180-230F depending on setup) out by the vacuum nipples.

I think he's talking about the actual intake hose that goes between the MAF and the throttle. 2 3/4" is too big to attach to a nipple. It's gotta be the intake itself.

Silicone is messy and probably overkill. Electric tape should hold it long enough to get a real hose. I doubt an autoparts store would have one, but they could certainly special order it. Get on the phone, get either the dealer or a parts store to get one for you. It shouldn't cost too much, and they should get it in quickly.

Yea, I'm talking about the hose between the throttle body and the MAF.

All I need is a drop of silicone so it's not going to get too messy. I just need to know if it can withstand the heat. Silicone has constant properties up to about 250 degrees F.

yes, it can,
that part of the engine doesnt deal with a lot of heat, just the radiant heat that is in the engine bay, so it should be an ok bandaid fix untill you can get a replacement,

Just nodding with everyone else here- Itll work as a bandade for now, but get on it asap if you can. Ive also used duck-tape as a band-ade, works incredibly well- But emphasis on band-ade.

Nevermind, I posted a theory before, but this is a modified post, and I came upon some new discoveries that conflicted with the post that was previously here smile.gif
