Course I used auto to get a feel for the physics of the game and the tracks. Now I'm half half. I still use my old 'matic cars, but when I get new ones, I choose man.

Always was a manual racing game player, always will be. Wouldn't trust anybody or anything with my car's shifting but myself. :-P

I always used manual, the reason i never used automatic is because i hear Tokyo Pop's manual setup was off the "perfect" shift points... plus you have more control over the car with manual w00t2.gif

Manual all the way!!

When driving manual....you control the speed....you control the car!

Auto takes that away

i use automatic.

advantage - you dont have to remember shift points and are assured to be fast off the start. u have less to think about

disadvantage - for tight turns u cant double down shift, and some courses that can be runned faster in a certain lower gear, cant be done in automatic in that gear.

I thought that with auto you still have the ability to downshift, just not upshift?

u can downshift with auto but i said u cant double downshift.

like on some turns such as the vturn in akagi, some people prefer to hit the downshift twice to get a tighter turn, with automatic it will not let u do a double downshift

Ah. My mistake. Sounds like there's some kind of time limit between downshifts on auto then.

That's a really good point, and also one of the main reasons why people preffer manual over the auto tranny.

That's not totally right. You can smash the brake, it'll DownShift, then you can DownShift as well.

yeah but if u smash the brake and do a double downshift u are ganna lose more speed than needed which is a bad thing. u would get the same effect and a better exit speed if u smash the brake then downshift a lil later

that will only hold true for auto though in a manual trans u would just need the double shift

Who really wants to rely on the brake for your car to downshift for you? I mean, wouldn't you rather have it easier and get a manual trans, which offers downshift and upshift at the time desired?????

meh i cannot shift, i never have been able to on any racing game, plus i do alright with an automatic tranny so i keep mine auto. just a mater of preference really.
