I'm lately listening to Ys soundtracks and they totally rock. Literally. How could I live without them before?

I was going to post this as a joke response... but listening to this song again brings back so many memories... from middle school... man... it's been that long since I first listened to this song.

So much hearts...

This was like probably the second J-pop song I ever listened to. First one was First Love...

Utada Hikaru ended up re-mixing this song later on, which actually sounds really good, and some people think is the better version... But for me... it's this song... man... this song...

I'm gonna go shed some hawt manly tears now...

Interestingly, Utada Hikaru is like only 3 years older than me... I would marry her just for this song.

The year was 2001. We were sitting around in orchestra class. For one reason or another, we were just chilling. At the time, I was listening to Vivaldi and Bach. I was in 9th grade, and I really looked up to the 10th graders. I asked one of them what music he listens to. He told me he listens to Jpop. Interesting, I thought. But, so cool, because Japanese things were awesome. Japanese people were also cool and reserved. He let me listen to this song. I really liked how it was different than the pop songs I knew (at the time, those were Backstreet Boys, Nsync, and Brittney Spears).

And.... here we are... 16 years later, still listening to the same stuff.

Is it just me, or does that song sound very... k-pop ish?

This one harkens back to 2003. After I was first exposed to Jpop, I gradually turned to the dark side and scoured IRC for Jpop music. Either due to my desperation, effort, or luck, I stumbled upon a treasure trove of Ayumi Hamasaki songs! It would take the next 10 years for me to finish listening to all of them, partly because I would listen to the first cd on repeat. Never got old. And, the beginning of my playlist would be this song.

Even when I went to Japan two years ago, this song was in my playlist, which I listened to during the flights and while waiting for the flight.

I was happy to hear some Ayumi Hamasaki songs playing in a sushi restaurant I frequent. Unfortunately, it is rarer and rarer for someone to have heard of her. And, to think, she was one of a few names back in the day synonymous with Jpop.

As someone pointed out in the comments. 0:20 seconds in until 1:00 or so sounds like something from Diablo II.

But overall this track is solid, great band work, vocals are also acceptable and appreciated for this track. Such a shame they are no longer together.

This is another Utada Hikaru song, but separated from the two earlier ones by a decade. Some of the images, tho, really inspired me as a kid. I would listen to my CD player when going to sleep because of the scene in EVA of Shinji listening to his music player. I had a crush on Rei, and wanted my room to be like hers, which wasn't hard because she didn't have anything in her room.

How times have changed... still really like Rei tho.
