After many years of speculation and rumors flying around, Bethesda is making an official statement regarding Fallout.

There is an RP rating symbol at the bottom of the page.

This, coupled with Bethesda announcing an E3 keynote, pretty much confirms that Fallout 4 is about to be revealed.

Never played a Fallout game before, might as well try it out when it comes!

Posted by: Tessou Jun 2 2015, 10:01 AM
Fallout 3 is one of the best games of all time. You can get a 360/PS3 copy at Gamestop for less than $5. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Seri Jun 2 2015, 10:23 AM
Or if you have a semi-decent PC, the GOTY edition frequently hits $5 on Steam.

Ron Perlman was at Phoenix Comicon yesterday and had this to say when asked about Fallout 4: "I wish I could give you news on that, but I can't and I won't." He apparently said this with a smirk on his face.

My prediction is that this countdown is not going to end with a reveal, but some official teases paving the way towards Bethesda's E3 keynote on June 14, possibly on a daily basis. They would not be crazy enough to drop a trailer video beforehand. I expect maybe some non-screencap images, story line establishment material, and/or maybe a Vault Tec presentation (which was their lead-in to Fallout 3 in 2008). The real meat is going to come with E3 and beyond.

Release date? My magic powers of prediction tell me late 2015 to early 2016.

On the bad end, there are ten thousand "FALLOUT 4 OFFICIAL!!!!1!" videos by amateurs on youtube, so expect a deluge of this shit, and other speculative content poring over every detail of anything Bethesda hands us, post-E3. The last time I saw this level of hype was for GTA V.

Fallout 1 remains my all-time favorite. 3 was good and I put alot of hours into it. I just have a soft-spot for the original over-world design and feel of the old games.

3 and Vegas didn't leave me clawing for a sequel though but I'll withhold judgement until I see more about this.

Posted by: APX Jun 3 2015, 09:53 AM
Just saw the trailer, wow.

Might really get this then, besides battlefront of course. Looks great.

Specially if I have dog as my companion (BETTER NOT KILL IT) i'm game!

Posted by: Kiroshino Jun 3 2015, 10:12 AM
3 was addicting. Still playing Vegas with all of the DLC's.

It's too early for me to get excited about 4, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for its release.

Posted by: Tessou Jun 3 2015, 11:32 AM
I only have questions regarding the textures used in the trailer, as the dog doesn't look particularly "wow" for a next gen game.

I'm still going to buy this. As soon as a $200 collector's edition is announced, I'm ordering it.

Man the brony community is blowing up with this. Guess fallout is a big deal to these guys. Still haven't played a fallout game yet.

Take prior advice and pick up Fallout 3 GOTY on Steam for $10. Do it right now.

Posted by: Rudy Jun 3 2015, 02:01 PM
Bah, digital copies. I'd rather buy a used disc.

Posted by: APX Jun 3 2015, 02:25 PM
As a poster said on the youtubes, looks like the graphics werent the main concern, but the gameplay, as they expect.

So maybe that's the cause, but it still looked good to me, doesn't need to be super clean and 'real' to me, I mean people loved the fuck out of bioshock infinite or whatever.

I look at it like this: they aren't bullshitting us with footage that looks nothing like what we'll actually see in the game, leaving little to disappoint when it hits shelves. You know what you're getting into from the start. That everything in the trailer is actual in-game footage is a good move on Bethesda's part. They did mostly the same with Fallout 3 trailers back in 2008 (one shot of the BoS looking over D.C. was not in-game).

Also, I was wrong about the dog's texture and model to a degree. From a better angle later on, I see that there is more detail in it, it's just hard to see in the initial shot I bitched about where the dog is walking down the hallway.

To those looking to get a copy: do it. Gamestop sells the all-frills Game of the Year edition for $15 brand new.

Wonder if they'll do a 'gameplay' of this at E3, or will just be one of the many trailers we see before a bigger company shows off a decent 'gameplay' coughcodcough

The keynote at e3 will be for a gameplay reveal. Bethesda has this and the new DOOM on the horizon, so it's a big year for them.

Well, they did a cracking job with Wolfenstein, so I've got some wary optimism on that one. biggrin.gif

Actually, Bethesda was working on Doom 4 for a few years before entirely scrapping it, because it didn't meet their expectations nor Id's. There are scraps of Doom 4 footage around the internet, but nothing from actual gameplay.

This new one, which has been seen by non-devs once, behind closed doors and strict NDAs, is simply titled DOOM. What little gameplay has been shown (about 5 seconds) looks intriguing.

--
As for FO4, there are some fun theories being thrown around. The "dad" character in the pre-war footage looks extremely similar to what is probably the player character shown at the end of the trailer. The big theory is that they are the same character, and that he (or she) went into Vault 111 as the bombs fell. Vault 111 could be an experiment in cryogenic freezing, where the player wakes up many years later and has to deal with the reality of the wasteland. This explains why the dog (and the player, who is seen outside the house for a brief moment out of focus) is searching the crib: the player is looking at their old home.

Posted by: Kiroshino Jun 5 2015, 05:51 PM
That would be pretty interesting. I wonder what the main quest would be in that case. ^^

Italian Gamestop lists release date as October 23rd. Taken with a grain of salt, obviously, but it's realistic considering the game's development length.

Posted by: Tessou Jun 7 2015, 07:07 PM
Bethesda confirmed it won't be coming to last gen consoles.

Keynote will be split between DOOM, Fallout 4 and BattleCry. They're heavily hinting at live game play, possibly with a playable demo build for attendees to mess with.

High possibility that the trailer was rendered from an old build, not current to July 2015.

Map appears to be 2-3x the size of of Skyrim.

Three Dog heavily implied to be returning as a radio station, but no character in the game.

So, PS4, XBox One, PC?

Posted by: Tessou Jun 8 2015, 11:28 AM
Skyrim's map is pretty huge, and entirely in one piece. There are no loading areas from end to end.

The Witcher 3 has an even larger map, 2 to 3 times the size, but there are at least five "areas" that need a loading screen to transition between.

Fallout 4, by what some people have gleaned from sighting landmarks in Boston, is going to cover a pretty nice chunk of Massachusetts.

I don't think anything has yet to beat Just Cause 2's map, though.

The Gamebryo engine used for Fallout 3 and New Vegas was well known for being prone to glitches, path errors, event flag hiccups, and console freezes, but the games themselves were golden. Worth the pain of a freeze every now and then.

Fallout 4 is using an updated and heavily modified version of the Creation Engine used in Skyrim, which was less buggy. It definitely wasn't bug free, but it was fucking Skyrim and it deserved GOTY.

Anybody that hasn't played FO3 yet for some reason, go to Gamestop and pick up a used copy for $5.

Pete Hines recently tweeted that graphics are 1080p 30fps for both consoles, and PC has no restrictions on resolution nor fps.

Just because you like the game doesn't mean that its faults magically goes away for other people.

Posted by: Tessou Nov 10 2015, 06:49 PM
True, but I'm looking at the game from a technical perspective, whereas he was very blatantly going with opinionated bias. "It looks shitty" has no basis aside from personal taste.

Metacritic is brutal if you look at user reviews. Professional reviews do not follow that logic, with a 23-1 positive/negative split. There are two ratings systems for a reason.

Here is an actual review of Fallout 4 by a regular player on Metacritic: No "Hardcore mode", no weapon/armor degradation, no reputation system, no "traits", and the plot and characters are flat.
But you can build weapons, houses and interact with the "real" pip-boy, so who cares?

Allow me to translate: "It's not New Vegas so it's garbage."

As for glitches, it's a Bethesda game on day one. After 18 straight hours in the game, it locked up on me twice. I've documented a few glitches, but aside from the lockups (which didn't freeze the console, btw) the only one that really sucked was where my companion wouldn't get out of "unconscious" mode even after fast traveling. Also, the radio skipped a track once. I missed half of Sixty Minute Man. sad.gif

I'm not trying to be a dick to SushiYummy. I'm pointing out that his critique of the game lacked an editorial point of view.

not my critique its metacritics. my review is that its an rpg.I watched some guy stream it and die over and over again because the save was when he was being attacked by a dog so he had to mash q to get the turn based combat system going. This is all because the time he had to react was shortened by a stupid black screen everytime he loaded into his save. Eventually RNG saved him.

Edit: hype killed the expectations. Like watch dogs. dont overhype.

edit edit: as to quote totalbiscut:"i dont review rpgs because they take hundreds of hours to play" Professional reviewers play the game for a few hours and write their reviews. Really a professional review like ign: well it has bugs and stuff 9.5/10. What kind of review is that.

Posted by: Tessou Nov 11 2015, 11:34 PM
Way to condense two pages of review into a cromagnon sentence.

Almost every pro review came after at least 60 hours of play.

I'm not gonna fight your opinion, just the brevity of it. Can't play 60fps 1440p on Radeon, zero stars. Saw physics error once, Bethesda failed us all. I could go on.

My own experience so far is "happy and enjoying". It's definitely a step up.

Posted by: jbeavis100 Nov 12 2015, 06:42 AM
I'm really enjoying it. Bethesda really stepped up in the writing department. A bit sad repairing is not a thing anymore but that's fine since power armor requires regular upkeep. The game is pretty great. Mind you it doesn't make me move new vegas out of my top 10 of all time or anything but regardless it's great. Really like the legendary weapons/armor that can spawn off of enemies. My biggest issue has to be with companion accuracy. They are REALLY bad at aiming..

@sushiyummy32
It's called metabombing. It happens occasionally with big time releases. With all the witcher 3 fans crowding up the fallout 4 forums on steam and elsewhere I'm surprised it's not worse. Witcher 3 may be a great game but that doesn't give them the right to act like asses.

Posted by: Spaz Nov 12 2015, 10:19 AM
It was slow to start, and I still feel like it could be faster, but there's story and backstory and soaking it all in takes time.

I like the lack of weapon and armor degradation, as I don't play for the RPG aspects, I play to be engaged by the story and the side quests. I've always found that shit to be distracting, when I have to wander off to try to find another gun or piece of armor to repair what I've got, or to find a suitable replacement.

I've been happy with it though.

Posted by: Tessou Nov 12 2015, 03:42 PM
Companion romance is interesting. No physical contact allowed?

Posted by: Tessou Nov 16 2015, 07:32 PM
Biggest concern is lack of a karma system. The game really only letsyou be either a perfect angel or a sarcastic perfect angel. The renegade option is nonexistent. You can kill side quest givers but not the big fish.

Power armor's OPness is only limited by power cores, but you can get over it with a perk and cores are everywhere.

I'd say it's more limited by the need for repair more than anything.

Yeah, unlike 3 or NV there really isn't much an opportunity to be mean at all besides the occasional snarky comment. I'm enjoying the fact that all the companions have their own sidequests once their "influence" is up. It's nice to see the companions getting their own time and getting fleshed out instead of being 5 lines like in F03.

Posted by: Tessou Feb 24 2016, 02:16 PM
Update! Bethesda has announced a lot of shit for FO4 recently. I was going to post when it came out, but bike accident blah blah pity party poopoo.

The first DLC comes out next month in the form of "Automatron", which includes some sort of quest regarding The Mechanist, possibly related to the same character from FO3. It also allows you to create your own robots from the parts you salvage from defeated robots, so it's like Pokemon. No word on what else the DLC adds, in terms of playable areas or anything. It might use existing areas or things that are not labeled on the map (like the irradiated clinic).

Second DLC is essentially an Arena creator, allowing you to build your own arena(s?) to fight various captured enemies. Not much info on this one yet.

Third DLC is called "Far Harbor", and is a larger expansion rather than just a content drop. It will probably flesh out the Children of the Atom based on what little info is out there so far.

The season pass covers all of this, and Bethesda has stated that there is plenty more coming after this batch. The season pass itself is currently $30, but due to the size of the content and development costs associated, they announced that the pass will increase to $50 on March 1, so pick it up now before the price jumps.

Also somewhere on the horizon is Survival Mode. Todd Howard said that it would not necessarily be "harder", just that you have more to deal with. Enemies don't become bullet sponges. You will deal with hunger, sleep, disease, ammunition weight, possibly weapon degradation (not confirmed), and a severe lack of saves. At the current stage of development, he says you can only save when you go to sleep. I will guess that stimpacks will also be worked on so that they aren't the cheat devices they've always been in regards to crippled limbs. New Vegas did something similar.

I'm sad the last patch 'fixed' my ultra glitched out character who had guaranteed headshots through cover and 12 copies of "You're SPECIAL". I can now only headshot people I can see half the time instead of 100% of the time for enemies who have barely rendered and are across the horizon and or behind a wall. lol

Not sure if I mentioned this already but since one of the voice actors for the game lives in the unit above me- As a joke, I found one of the characters he plays, quicksaved and promptly killed the character before he could deliver any of his lines then sent the pic to him saying "I enjoyed the full scope of your work". to which he responded by saying that I'd "have at least heard his death groans". Amusingly after I loaded there's a quest string that involves that characacter and a group of people later and he ended up being the only one I spared just out of circumstances where I felt it was the most beneficial for my character. I thought the whole time I'd have to kill him anyway.

Far harbor is the only one that sounds compelling to me so far. Arena creator seems very strangely out of character for the vault dweller in 4 (considering there's no truly evil route he can take). The Automatron DLC just sounds it's just glorified pets but with the robots. I guess we'll see how much story they add for it.

This.

Remember back in the day, where every DLC added new areas?

Mothership Zeta
Operation Anchorage
Point Lookout
Broken Steel

I feel like the arena thing exists simply because of the sheer number of videos to that effect people have done on YT. It's more of a support to community vices than an actual expansion. Glad I didn't purchase the season pass, as I'll likely skip the first two DLCs... Or torrent them since they probably install just as easily as the always have. That's the kind of stuff that should be free updates, not DLC... Look at Battlefront 3, constant stream of emails about basic new content I don't have to pay for. And the first 2 DLCs look like basic content updates.

Even tho the actual Fallout where not like the ones that started everything i feel that Fallout 1 and 2 didnt aged well (The really slow paced combat on both games and the really hard difficulty on the second one) but when you play Fallout 4 you really feel like you are exploring a diverse world.
I dont know, maybe is beacuse i didnt lived back then to play the original fallout.

I agree. Fallout 1 feels unfinished. 2 is quite a bit better to me but doesn't really hold up as a "fun" game to play. Great dialogue choices and reactions though.

New Vegas was the standout of the series for me.

I hated almost everything about 4, the story and protagonist, the factions, the settlement gameplay was just garbage. I guess the shooting mechanics were improved a bit over 3 and NV along with the graphics. And could they hire more than half a dozen voice artists for the random NPCs for once?

Fallout 4 is better than I was expected. I had not ever played fallout before last week and it is really amazing.

Fallout 4 is a good game but Fallout 77 is an awful one

Fallout 4 is the fourth game in the Fallout series. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity was destroyed by a nuclear war. The player takes on the role of a Soldier who wakes up from cryogenic sleep 200 years after the start of the war.

The player can explore the game's open world, complete quests, gather resources, and craft weapons and armor. The player can also build and manage their own settlement.

I tried to play it, it's pretty good. Recently, I mostly hang out in cs go. An old shooter with a lot of online and various game modes. I also like to collect skins for weapons like "http://skin.club/en/skins/knife/gut-knife-damascus-steel-factory-new-covert". It's pretty fun and exciting.
