Nintendo seems to be on a roll lately, what with the popularity of Pokemon Go boosting Nintendo's market value by $7 billion (biggest jump in value for the company since the 1980s), and now they're going to release a miniature version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and it will come with 30 games!

From its introduction in the 1980s, the NES to many is the console that got us into gaming with its numerous classic games, and now Nintendo is bringing the console back to allow gamers to relive those classics again with a new edition of the console this fall.

Castlevania
Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Double Dragon II: The Revenge
Dr. Mario
Excitebike
Final Fantasy
Galaga
Ghosts’N Goblins
Gradius
Ice Climber
Kid Icarus
Kirby’s Adventure
Mario Bros.
Mega Man 2
Metroid
Ninja Gaiden
Pac-Man
Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream
StarTropics
Super C
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Tecmo Bowl
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
The NES Classic Edition will release on November 11th, 2016 for $59.99, with the console to also include a classic NES controller, an AC adapter, and an included HDMI cable (allowing the system to hook up easily to HDTVs).

The NES Classic controllers will also be available to purchase individually for $9.99, and can also be connected to the Wii Remote controller to be used while playing Virtual Console games on either a Wii or Wii U system.

I hope this isn't gonna be in limited quantities cause I would really want that

Hate Pokemon Go, but love that it possibly resulted in this. Definitely buying.

For only 30 games?

I'm sure they can put more games in there, but people will buy it to look retro all of the sudden. lol. (Talking about the youngn's.)

One report I read suggested it might have compatibility with Virtual Console as well, so I guess you'll be able to get games from there as well.

Consider that NES games on the virtual console are typically $5 each. You're getting a really good deal for "just" 30 games.

Or mostly free with those cracked vitural ones, well from what my friends did on their Wiis.

Nevermind, looks like it's 30 games and 30 games only, according to Nintendo it's a standalone device.

I'll still buy it. Zelda, Mario 3 and Super C are fucking awesome games.

Posted by: BOZZ Jul 14 2016, 04:45 PM
It's pretty cheap, but it would have been nice to be able to make use of Virtual Console to download more NES games, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Posted by: Tessou Jul 14 2016, 06:51 PM
If it had access to that, they would have to set up controller support for the other consoles, unless they wanted it to be locked to the NES library alone.

Here's to hoping they rectify that with a Mini SNES. Super Metroid, please! awesome.gif

I think people are looking at this thinking it's some sort of fresh Nintendo console for the hardcore market, when it's nowhere near that. They're trying to tap into the casual market of "all in one" retro boxes that can play their software by releasing an official version straight from the big N.

ONE GLARING OMISSION HERE: DOUBLE DRAGON. Whaaaaat?

I wish they had RBI Baseball, my favourite game from the old NES. sad.gif

I wonder how sharp the graphics will since the mini-NES has HDMI.

Posted by: Tessou Jul 14 2016, 07:29 PM
Sharp as fuck, but almost assuredly 4:3 since NES was made well before widescreen was a thing.

Posted by: APX Jul 14 2016, 08:54 PM
It'll be like most arcade games on xbox live i'm sure.

Random art on the sides.

Other games I miss:

- Ninja Turtles
- River City Ransom
- Blaster Master
- Spy Hunter
- Adventure Island

haha 50 bucks for a console that plays games my phone could do
or my laptop

unless you are a nintendo fan this doesnt look like a thing tbh
imo, it is just nintendo trying to milk some cash out of the fans' pocket

Posted by: Tessou Jul 15 2016, 12:07 AM
Again you guys miss the target market. This isn't for hardcore gamers.

Posted by: Seri Jul 15 2016, 03:09 AM
I second a mini SNES.

FFIII/VI, please!

So the thing about the NES controller thing, turns out you can connect the controller to your WiiU and play Virtual Console games on the WiiU using the mini-NES' controller.

Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Jul 15 2016, 08:41 PM
That's so amazing. Bless you Nintendo.

Posted by: Nerubian Jul 21 2016, 08:48 AM
I would rather want a Nintendo console where you can play all Satellaview games including all their alternative versions and additional contents that were never rereleased again (like BS Zelda).

Posted by: Tessou Jul 21 2016, 12:55 PM
Nintendo is loading this up as a holiday package. It's not going to include obscure or region-unreleased titles like anything on the Satellaview.

Posted by: Nerubian Jul 21 2016, 03:37 PM
I wasn't talking about the mini NES. I just would like to see some kind of mini SNES which could feature Satellaview games.

Posted by: Tessou Jul 21 2016, 05:36 PM
Still out of the question for the big N. They will never do it because Satellaview games were never in the US, as the attachment never launched here. It would only cater to hardcore fans, which this is not being marketed to.

Mind you, I would kill for an official release of all of the BS Zelda titles.

Posted by: Seri Jul 21 2016, 08:47 PM
I just realized, this has Startropics.

I'm double sold.

Posted by: Nerubian Jul 22 2016, 04:34 PM
BS Fire Emblem was the first Satellaview game that got rereleased as additional content in 2010. So maybe, with a tiny chance and hope, in an ulterior future, other Satellaview games could be rereleased, too.

Trailer is out for the Classic NES. I love the last line of the trailer, truly the most nostalgic part of the video.

Posted by: Rain197 Jul 24 2016, 05:35 AM
Not for me, i already own 1/3 of these games on VC on my Wii U and 3DS (with the ambassador program)

Posted by: Nerubian Jul 24 2016, 06:23 AM
I would buy it just for the retro feeling, because I never played on a NES.

Posted by: Nerubian Nov 14 2016, 09:09 AM
I'm interested in how many users here actually got a copy. Either the console was a limited edition or there was a damn huge amount of costumers, because the console was already sold out before it's release. blink.gif
If you look on ebay, the console's prices are up to twice or more of it's actual MSRP (damn those money-grubbing idiots!).
At least I was able to buy the console on Play-Asia this morning (for $84.99...), because they still awaited a supply for the australian version, but even this version is already out of stock (including the australian classic controller). facepalm.gif
Why didn't I pre-order? derp.gif

Posted by: APX Nov 14 2016, 09:44 AM
People were buying/selling them at around 400 (Last one I saw was up at 900)

So... guess the Nostalgia thing is hyped as fuck.

ON ANOTHER NOTE: Some company in Brazil is making the Genesis, only thing added to it? SD slot for 20-30 games loaded into it.

AFAIK, classic SEGA emulators come out frequentely. However, they have emulation bugs and other errors. So, it wouldn't be at the same level than the classic NES.

I repeat, that's what I have heard about the previous versions of classic SEGA consoles. I think it also applies to this new one, but I could be wrong.

Posted by: Nerubian Nov 14 2016, 12:09 PM
So retro consoles sems to be a bonanza... Wouldn't be too surprising if other classic console generations get re-released as miniatures, too.

Posted by: Tessou Nov 14 2016, 01:31 PM
The "new" Genesis is officially licensed by SEGA. It's good.

The NES Classic is not worth it. Short cord, crap interface. Price means nothing when the product is worthless.

The only thing that gets me and other consumers is the games and the nostalgia. Its around 3 or 6 dollars for certain NES games on the Nintendo E-shop which makes this an instant bargain, but Nintendo messed this up like how they did with Amiibo which kinda is ironic to see that in the past, (quoted by AVGN in my knowledge) Nintendo sold their consoles and attachment like toys.

Posted by: Tessou Nov 14 2016, 09:31 PM
It's still not worth $60 in my opinion. It's not set up well. I'd buy it if it was $20, and available everywhere. Instead they made limited production batches as if they want ebay resellers to prey upon buyers.

Posted by: prince_david Nov 15 2016, 08:37 AM
Retail price is fine for what you get. Build quality is far superior to competitor TV Plug-and-play systems. Scalping prices are ridiculous. Wait for more production.

Posted by: Nerubian Nov 15 2016, 09:00 AM
Talking about ridiculous prices: the highest so far on ebay is fucking $20.000. I'm not even stunned but kind of amused that such sellers seriously think someone would buy a $60 console for this price.
