i just bought and installed a Kingwin Mach 1 800w psu new to replace a corsair 650w psu. The box says that it puts out 800w continuously and 850w peak.

so once i get everything nice and hooked up i fire up the computer. all the fans spin up, HDD light on, and Mobo light on, however, the screen stays black. The motherboard then lets out 3 long beeps then nothing. I tried reseating all the power connectors, RAM, pci and pci-e connectors but i dont know whats wrong. I checked the intel website to see what the 3 beeps meant but they didnt really give a clearcut explanation. Does anyone know what the heck is wrong?!

here are my spec's
Intel D975XBX2 Extreme series motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz
Ultra Chilltec TEC CPU cooler
XFX 8800gt 512mb alpha dog edition
Seagate sata HDD @7200rpm
x2 1gb kingston ram @800mhz
x2 1gb corsair ram @800mhz
dlink dwa552 wireless network adapter
x2 pioneer DVD-RW IDE
x2 120mm fans w/ LED
x2 250mm fans w/ LED

Keep in mind that this computer worked fine with the 650w corsair psu and i have changed nothing other than the psu since then. I bought this psu from tigerdirect if that makes any difference.

I am afraid it might be a faulty unit. RMA is such a hassle to deal with...

According to PCSTATS, 3 long bips means "A keyboard error". Are you sure that the keyboard is connected?

I can't believe not connecting the keyboard prevent POST! I think I've seen that before, but on very old computers. Perhaps the BIOS needs a flash upgrade.

Actually, mobo NEEDS a keyboard to boot. But, you can also desactivate keyboard check in the BIOS now...

yes, there is a wireless keyboard reciever connected to the computer.

however, i dont think the keyboard is a problem because it POSTed before with the old PSU. The only thing i've done since this problem arose was install a new power supply.

i think it might be a faulty unit"/ any other suggesitons guys?

Do you have a wired keyboard laying around? If yes, try with it. POST doesn't detect the keyboard for some reason.

If you can deactivate it, it means it doesn't need it. tongue.gif Which is what Perry was getting at. The only motherboards that 'NEEDS' it are very old. I haven't seen any modern boards that actually enforce the keyboard requirement.

Found something else :
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/...b/cs-010249.htm

It's a RAM problem... try the solution provided in the link.

Funny how mine, a Gigabyte P35-DS3R which 3 years old, needs a keyboard by default... By default, a mobo will need a keyboard. In the BIOS you CAN desactivate that check. This is by my experience.

Three long beeps with an Intel board can either be memory OR video card. Check to see if you're giving the correct voltages to the memory. Some RAM do need an increase in voltage... Try using only the Kingston first with stock voltage from the BIOS.

I had the same board before and it is picky with memory and voltages.
