Help me compile a reference list of licensed cars and bikes in any manga or anime series (And for the sake of being obvious, let's assume Initial D out of this topic, OK?  )Gatekeepers 21 ●Toyota 2000GT ●Nissan Skyline GT-R (Can't remember whether it was an R32 or an R33, though) Ai Yori Aoshi ●BMW Z3 ●Cadillac Seville And I'll need some help with bikes here... What kind of touring bike does Keiichi Morisato (Ah! My Goddess) own? It's a BMW, that's all I know... Does anyone remember what Kawasaki Shizuma Kusanagi (Real Bout High School) has? And what are the bikes featured in GTO? |

I love this anime! It was a late 80's Kawasaki Z they came in 650 900 and 1000cc. displacement. Onizuka's was a tuned Z1000 I believe |

| Firstly, no Initial D in this thread. Secondly, you're wrong--it's in 2nd Stage. move MVs don't count either, since they're the performers for Initial D and it's only natural that Initial D be featured in their videos. |

Ermm.. it's a Nissan Skyline GTR R34 (You can tell by the headlights.) Also, there's a Porsche 911. | I noticed while watching it last night, Episode 14 of GitS:SAC features an S15 (Prevously mentioned) as well as three Lamborghini Countach... Also in that same episode when the Tachikoma were unplugging the spark wires of the cars in part of their road blockade, you see a quick shot of an engine (Which looked like a Honda B-series of some sort to me at quick glance; I'll have to look that over again to be sure)... |

| Bump -- Thought I'd post up another Viper sighting from a comic I'm currently reading. The manga's called D-Live; the plot gets a bit contrived and the cars hardly graze Shigeno's caliber. On top of that, I've been reading Ikegami's Heat this whole week, and man is my head burnt. Kawasaki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Z750RS_Z2 The other bikes shows are usually a combination of Kawasakis and CB series Hondas. There's also an R33 that the Cresta passes on the highway in one scene (prompting the driver to declare that he was beaten by the Phantom Cresta). |

Again, sounds more like a V8 than an RB26DETT (what's more, that sound is taken from one of the following games: GTA3, VC, SA,etc.) Onto the NSX-R. It sounds NOTHING like a tuned C32B (taken from GTA3 again). If they want to do a good parody, get the sounds right first. |

The first one is a Celica XX, aka Celica Supra. And in the second pic, if you look under the SVX, that's a 1991 Subaru Legacy SS! WOO! Use the term a little liberally, but realistically... I use "licensed" to refer to cars that are actually made in real life... You can tell those cars aren't made up designs, because they look too obviously much like cars you'll see in reality... "Real life cars/bikes in manga/anime" sounded too stupid... |

Instead of simply rattling off a huge list of cars and inciting others to do the same, you could have taken a different direction. There are lots of possibilities for ways to start a thread about vehicles in anime and it could have helped bind together some of the petrolheads who must exist on this forum somewhere. Unfortunately we do not have a good discussion of automobiles in the General Anime Forum and I hope you can remedy that lack. You could have tried comparing shows that focus on driving and discussing how realistic they are. You could have discussed how vehicles are animated. You could have brought up a show which really gets the adrenaline pumping during the racing scenes and discussed what made it work for you so as to encourage others to discuss their favorite driving scenes. One thing that I ask is for you to avoid posting pictures or encouraging the same. Our forum's focus is on discussion, not on images. If people want to post pictures of cars, they should find another place. This forum is best suited to discussions about those cars. My point is that if you want to have a discussion about cars, please think about WHY you like to watch car shows and then encourage that sort of a discussion. If you have any questions about what sort of thread would be accepted, please feel free to PM me with your suggestion. | Well, I can't say I disagree with what they said, you have to remember that those forums are a lot more broad then the ones here. The other 'suki member who PMed you was right though in making those other suggestions. Why not trying to contact that xris member and asking if you could go ahead with a thread on discussing, not just listing, the cars that appear in animes. Remember that even the administrator here on IDWF wasn't very fond of a certain thread that was pretty much listing what song you are listening to (it's why the new thread requires that members actually discuss the song they are listening to). |

| This isn't really a car based anime but I saw a while back and remembered, in "Shin Chan - The Adult Empire Strikes Back" the villains car is a Toyota 2000 GT and there are several Subaru 360's used to go after the kids. One other thing, not to diss the one who said it but the Blackbird in Wangan Midnight isn't a RUF BTR, it's actually a black painted CTR "Yellowbird", hence the name "Blackbird". Good thread, btw. |

To add to this. Detective Conan also featured an red (formerly white) FD repeatedly as well as including a Ford Mustang (Fox Body) and a Lancer Evo X during some episodes. Also the Porsche 356A, a Chevy C150 (Clarification if possible), and a Jaguar E-Type. |

| I still have to finish watching that show. Tip on the aspect ratio: either screenshot with VLC instead (VLC handles DVDs infinitely better than MPC, trust me), or just do a quick resize with GIMP or another image editor (720x480 is DVD native, 853x480 is widescreen, 640x480 is non-widescreen). |

Go to /a/, most of them actually advise against it. I agree, honestly - subbed anime can get screwed up when played on VLC versus, say, Windows Media Player with the right codecs. To each his own, though... |

People do use other video players like MPC and Mplayer... I know I tend to use Mplayer myself since it loads faster than VLC... |

VLC is nice, but it does have some limitations which make it impractical for general use. For one, there are a select few codecs it strictly does not support due to licensing or other legal issues. For another, its support of GPU offloading is a recent addition and an experimental one. For less powerful computers (like my netbook), GPU offloading is required to be able to play high definition content. For just about everything, I use the latest build of MPC-HC. I only use VLC for DVD content and occasionally for diagnosing media problems (since it isn't affected by external filters). Keep in mind that lots of the people who recommend against using VLC were burned by it back in the days when it didn't support styled subtitles or GPU processing. It wasn't that long ago that VLC was generations behind every single other media player on the planet, you know. |

Yeah, I was watching this last time I was in Tokyo, I had just turned it to the station and it was showing an interior shot with the steering wheel and all. I was like "Wait a sec, this interior looks awfully familiar" Yeah, it's most def. a S8 FD. |

| I've been reading Zettai Karen Children, and in some chapters I spotted a few cars: - One chapter has cop cars that look like 1st gen Honda Preludes - In another, one of the girls is playing a racing game with cars that look like an S13 and an NSX - Also, a Toyota HiAce seems to be used as a broadcasting van - A VW New Beetle almost gets crushed by a falling Mitsubishi Fuso tanker truck Also, no one spotted the Mazda Roadster in Negima's 1st chapter spread where everyone's rushing to school? Look closely in the center. |

Yep, the GTO 3D model's been in since at least Wangan Midnight, though it may have been featured before in as early as Third Stage. The SVX was the same way. Poke through the series, I'm sure you can find much earlier examples. |

Detective Conan has an entire episode about a mysterious white Efini FD3S that is supposedly driven by a witch because of the squealing it makes, and the drivers of said car mention "four hairpins" when Conan and the crew chase after them in a Toyota Crown (there's an orange Evo X in the preceding episode too that they chase the FD with and it hits a guardrail...) Another episode later on mentions street racing and there's a flashback with a white S15 and someone driving an Impreza. Coincidentally in an episode of Bakuon there is a flashback to a supporting character's past where they are at a bike meet on a mountain pass, and lo and behold, there is a parked Initial D-style AE86 (carbon fibre hood and all!) there. Later in the series a new character appears in the main cast (more on her later), who rides a Honda NSF100 on the circuit and although it's not a bike, but rather a scooter, she also drives a Honda PCX150 on the road. There are some other bikes that appear that are driven by the supporting cast which include: BMW K1300R, Honda CBR1000RR (I have a feeling this series is Honda-biased, not that I have anything against that) and a Suzuki 1135R Katana Yoshimura; also one of the cast gets her own bike which at first is a Honda Super Club until she learns to properly ride a bike and then gets a Ducati 1199 Panigale S that has been detuned to comply with Japanese regulations with regards to minors not being permitted to drive bikes with a higher displacement engine than 400cc. What's funny is at the time I posted the above I called it K-ON with bikes, and by the time I reached the end of the series just yesterday, that has been proved to be nearly 100% true. The main character, Hane, is a slightly ditzy girl whose 1-year younger sister is far more responsible and takes care of most chores, reminding me of Yui from K-ON, then there is Hijiri, a girl from a wealthy family, the slightly boyish Onsa, that reminds me of Ritsu, and as the story progresses to the main character's second year they recruit a first year student named Chisame NAKANO (even the same last name as Asuza!) that resembles K-ON's Asuza in appearance and also having a backstory where she comes from a family of talented individuals (in K-ON, Asuza's parents are musicians, in Bakuon her father is a former professional motorcyclist and her mother also rode motorcycles). The only K-ON analogue that is missing is Mio. The main cast includes two other characters, Raimu-sempai (she's sort of like an ambiguous aged, version of the Stig in this series) and Rin (coincidentally their last names reflect their favourite motorcycle manufacturer, Kawasaki and Suzuki respectively), who aren't even remotely similar to the shy, easily embarrassed Mio. Nevertheless, it's a good series. |
