So, online i see a lot of different engine weights. but i have not seen a chart with different engines from all over. so if you consider doing a swap kinda like a mass general engine weight chart. add and I will update the chart. if you know a engine weight post it and I'll add it, anything from ford, chevy, renualt, fiat etc. transmission weight's can be added too. these are estimates or close weight it may be off 30-60 pounds not too bad. we assume most at FULL blocks but if it is not please make a note so it can be noted and added, we assume most are manual please state whether trans included is a auto. if any of these engine weight's are wrong PLEASE PLEASE feel free to point it out and correct the list so we can have as close to a possible accurate list. for those who are confused about weight into kg's use this. for our use long block = engine with intake, exhaust, turbo (if any), head, cams, bottom block crank, rods, pistons, etc, no A/C no P/S, oil pan short block = block, crank rods and pistons, oil pan THATS IT! full block, Intake, exhaust, cams, block, rods, pistons, turbo (if any), oil pan P/S, A/C, alternator, sensors, flywheel, dampener, coolant lines etc etc a drop in plug in motor pretty much. there is some debate with the american V8 guys about long block = longer/ heaver, and short block = smaller engine. lets ignore that and go by this for now. I don't know numbers, but the transmissions in a DSM weigh about as much as the combined moons of Jupiter. |

that is liiiiieeeee VG30's weigh a ton more then that. the crank and block alone is like 250 pounds. I need to go through that and comb out actual weights. |

Damn that's a strong man. Let's see him do the same to the other boxes with gears in them. I count three such devices on an evo, which is as many as four tens, and that's terrible. I mean, there's a lot of weight between those, and it's not really weight you can afford to shed. |

just as thought you bought it from a jdm importer. Intake exhaust, head cams, of course. why would they sell you a block with no rods crank or pistons then call it a long block? |

they don't, by your definition its called a crate motor here you buy it and shove it under the hood. |

Crate motors are exactly what you're talking about--buy it and put it under the hood. Long blocks are the basic engine without the accessories (usually things like water pump, alternator, power steering, A/C, maybe oil pump, etc). Short blocks are what you were talking about before where it's the engine missing entire critical components. |

Yes and no... A shortblock still has the rotating assembly, it just lacks a head. |

Having sold them, the terminology used, at least at the company I worked for, was: Long Block - Complete engine, sometimes without valve covers, usually without all accessories Short Block - Exactly as you stated, pretty much all of the bottom end Crate Motor - An engine that has been somehow modified, includes everything that the long block does. In some rare cases, it is used for brand new factory engines. |

If thats a stock engine, then yeah pretty much, according to where I worked. Crate engines were always brand new but generally had been tweaked by the factory. Most of the "rare case" engines were Ford or Chevy lol. Long block was used mostly for rebuilt engines as opposed to new, which is what pretty much everyone purchased. If anyone wanted a new engine, it was generally a modified one. So we barely sold stock spec crate engines, thats why it was a rare case. Again not my terminology, but the official terms for the company that I was working for. |

thats horse shit a VG30DE and E blocks are the same except flywheel bolt pattern and head bolt pattern, same rods crank and pistons. i would guess thats a short block, theres no way it's a long block updated: RB engine weights are off i cannot see why the rb26 would weight anymore then a 20. need to figure this out. |

rb25 without flywheel,cluch,starter,alternator+p.s pump on a pallet- 234kgs ... Most shops that ship out a complete RB26 average it out to 250kg for what that's worth (agrees with your numbers and fills that number for the 25). I don't care about swapping an RB20 into anything so I don't have those numbers. |

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but when buying a rotary engine, what separates a long block from a short block? On that note, why is it so bloody difficult to find the weight of the Lambda V6? I'm actually quite curious, and Google's letting me down. |

I was actually trying to be a smartass, since I know that there's no valvetrain/head on a rotary engine, the rotating assembly is the valvetrain. But damn, those Rice Racing engines are sex. Loving the precision work! |

It's tough with a rotary though, I'd consider a fully assembled keg a longblock, if you will. |
