| As most of you notice, the forums was down almost the whole day yesterday. This thread will explain what happened earlier yesterday morning and why this happened. Bear with me on this as the thread is quite tedious.
Around 02:00 AM PST Aug. 29th, 2004, the forums' server load went up to 12 ~ 15. It was really painful to wait for the forums to load as it takes about 10 seconds to load one single page. 10 ~ 15 minutes later, the forums went down completely, returned a MySQL error 28.

I thought it was a typical MySQL error which could be repaired. I logged in to the MySQL database via phpmyadmin. After several desperate attempts at trying to repair the database, I asked Insidious to take a look at it. We worked together and finally figure out that the problem was that the specific partition that the MySQL database was in was full. Meaning there are no more space. Therefore, when people tried to access the site and posts, the forums automatically crashed.
Since it was not something I can fix it myself. I sent an urgent inquiry to the host. Here is what they said;
QUOTE (Perry @ Aug 29 2004, 06:48 AM) | Hello, my site idforums.net is a forums (invision power board) that use php with mysql database as backend. Anyways, I was checking my forums as usual today, then suddenly I got this error when trying to access the forums:
---------------------------
mySQL query error: SELECT f.*, c.id as cat_id, c.position as cat_position, c.state as cat_state, c.name as cat_name, c.description as cat_desc, c.image, c.url, m.member_name as mod_name, m.member_id as mod_id, m.is_group, m.group_id, m.group_name, m.mid FROM ibf_forums f, ibf_categories c LEFT JOIN ibf_moderators m ON (f.id=m.forum_id) WHERE c.id=f.category ORDER BY c.position, f.position
mySQL error: Got error 28 from table handler mySQL error code: Date: Sunday 29th of August 2004 06:40:25 AM
---------------------------
So I logged on to the cpanel and got in to the MySQL database via phpmyadmin and tried to repair the tables. Okay, so a lot of tables were repaired except one table named ibf_posts, the status is "in use", I tried to run the "Optimize table" command on it, I get error 144 - Can't open file: 'ibf_posts.MYI'. (errno: 144)
Then I tried to run the "Repair table" on that specific table, I get:
error 28 when writing to datafile Operation failed
I did a little research on this error 28, http://forums.devshed.com/t124674/s.html?h...d+phpBB+Hosting!
I found out that it's because the database is out of space. So I FTP to the site and deleted about 600MB worth of files. But nothing works, I still get the error 28 whenever I try to repair it. It seems to me that I can't fix it myself. I am looking for help desperately. Please help me fix this as soon as possible.
This is an urgent situation, I hope you can understand. Thank you very much.

QUOTE (Amal @ Aug 29 2004, 06:13 PM) | Hello,
The issue has been fixed. Please check it now. :-)
It was a serverwide issue. The var partition got blogged up with some old log files. I have cleared it now and everything seems to work fine now. :-)
Regards, Amal Support Team.
