Easily the biggest news since the acquisition of the franchise by Funimation! I can't wait for more details! |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Jul 30 2012, 06:32 AM |
I hope it can get picked up here. The fact that the series went straight to Funi's budget line wasn't a good sign, but I know I'd love to see it licensed because it's pretty much the last leg of the series. Crossing my fingers. Also, August 6 is Eight-six day. |
Posted by: Tessou Jul 30 2012, 07:15 AM
That just blew my mind. Didn't even think that the date was significant! |
Posted by: Drew Jul 30 2012, 07:33 AM
>MFW. Also because every mofo was doing this at otakon whenever a Daniel Bryan T-Shirt was spotted |

So who thinks they are going to retire the ae86 like they have been hinting on the manga Maybe it's time? Image size reduced, original size: 960 x 711. Click here to view the image in its original dimension. |

I'm hoping its Fifth Stage. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Jul 30 2012, 10:38 AM
Goddamn, Slade's back too?! Not even 24 hours since the announcement and already old members are returning. This is just as impressive as expected. If whatever they announce is going to touch on Fifth Stage's story, it better be an anime series and not a movie. I'd hate to see the story get condensed. |
Posted by: Shirogane Jul 30 2012, 10:41 AM
Seeing what they did with Persona 4 over at AIC/Aniplex made me think that's a likely situation. |
Posted by: r33skyline Jul 30 2012, 11:07 AM |
Great! So many years from the 4th stage and the battle stage 2... I'm so happy that I almost don't believe in this news! |
Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Jul 30 2012, 11:10 AM |
If Fifth Stage were to become a movie then at least it will look good. I'm really hoping for a series though so the plot doesn't get smushed into an hour and a half. My real hope is that FUNimation acquires the rights to translate and release it here in the states. That's right, I liked the FUNimation dub. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: geokilla Jul 30 2012, 11:12 AM |
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! IT'S BACK! Hopefully it won't be as bad as Fourth Stage. I say bad because Fourth Stage felt so rushed. |
Posted by: Chidoki Jul 30 2012, 11:13 AM |
If 5th Stage was even a movie it should be a 3 or 4 part movie or something like that. At least all the people I got into fans of Initial D won't have to ask me when the next series will be animated anymore. |
Posted by: fuji_tak Jul 30 2012, 12:28 PM
initial d is serialized in young magazine not young jump we don't know the format (TV, oav or movie) much datas in the next double issue YM #36-37 next week. Stay tunned !! |
Posted by: RalliKai Jul 30 2012, 12:44 PM |
Very good news! Looking forward to hearing more details and crossing my fingers that it actually is 5th Stage granted any new adaption would be welcome. |

Holy crap, indeed! |
Posted by: Slade Jul 30 2012, 03:12 PM
LMAO well Ive been super busy lately and I came back to check whats new and thats 1st thing I saw I hope its 5th Stage and yes not a movie either. Also hope Funimation gets the rights as well, cuz I like theyre dub as well. |
Posted by: PsychoKilla666 Jul 30 2012, 03:23 PM |
Exciting stuff, can't wait. What a great time to check back on this community, I miss Initial D and this board/site. Cheers |
Posted by: Banken Jul 30 2012, 05:20 PM |
It will probably be another PPV series like Fourth Stage, although I hope it's a high-budget TV series. There's easily enough material to make a two-season series now. I mean, it's only been EIGHT YEARS lol. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Jul 30 2012, 05:23 PM
Aagh, that's the second time I've read this today. Fourth Stage ended in 2006. That's six years.
|
Posted by: Yoshida Seiji Jul 30 2012, 05:58 PM
I thought it was 04, for some reason. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Jul 30 2012, 06:05 PM
It did start in 2004, just it ended in 2006. It ran from April 17, 2004 – February 18, 2006. |
Posted by: Banken Jul 30 2012, 06:42 PM
It's been (over) eight years since the last new Initial D series based on the manga came out. Plus, the only reason it lasted until 2006 was because they only played two episodes every two months month. That's four times slower than a normal TV series. There has only been six years worth of new manga, but it's more than enough. I wonder who they're going to cast for Mika... |
Posted by: PsychoKilla666 Jul 30 2012, 11:17 PM |
So, any guesses yet? Fifth Stage to be same as Fourth Stage, same format and time frame. Starting on the 9 year anniversary of Fourth Stage? |
Posted by: Perry Jul 30 2012, 11:43 PM |
I think they are hyping it up by releasing information prior to the actual confirmation. Boy I tell you, it is working. A lot of people are hyped up about this. Plus, they got the August 6, 8-6 day thing going. They are definitely going for the hype. I think they have already started animating the series last year. The biggest hint was the re-broadcast of Initial D by Animax HD starting last October. I think they had insider info about the new project so they started re-broadcasting Initial D in an attempt to bring back some interests and prep the fans for the big announcement. Personally I think we'll see Fifth Stage as early as January or February 2013. They usually announce it six months in advanced of the actual air date. But that's only my speculation. |

that's great. i am back in business for more initial d action |
Posted by: Takumi Trueno Jul 31 2012, 12:55 AM |
I can't wait! best news I've heard in a long time. My friend had to tell me while I was at work. |
Posted by: Perry Jul 31 2012, 01:00 AM
I am very surprised at how fast this news is traveling across the Internet. It has only been one day since the release of that news and I believe the news has reached as many as 500,000 Initial D fans worldwide. However, the core fanbase for Initial D is much larger than that and many people still haven't been informed yet. As soon as we get more details on 8.6.12, I plan to mass Email everyone on the forums, that's 12,000 members that I have to contact! We need to do our parts to inform those old Initial D fans! Together we can bring the passion we all had for Initial D back. |
Posted by: admiralhonshu Jul 31 2012, 01:07 AM |
Awsome news to hear, still having withdrawl pains from 2006, only reruns. Lol! |
Posted by: Takumi Trueno Jul 31 2012, 01:14 AM |
I agree Perry. I hope this news and the anime help revive the Initial D community. I think this new anime is what everyone needs. brings back all the old and brings in new comers as well. |

This is an amazing idea! I hope our servers can take all the traffic! |
Posted by: Tomiya Takato Jul 31 2012, 04:39 AM |
I had a thought that it might be a Movie like the Stage 3. Just to get 5th stage fired up beforehand. Or maybe a prologue to hype up the new GT86. Unrelated story where Takumi ditched/upgraded his AE86 to a GT86. All we can do is wait and see. Its been too damn long |
Posted by: admiralhonshu Jul 31 2012, 08:53 AM
Sounds more of tail pipe loving coming our way. Lol! |

Man, I remember when I joined in 2006. The forum was full of activity. But as years went on, forum activity declined and it was sad. But now, the hype came back with this announcement. What will happen on 8/6/2012? If it's the fifth stage, the forums are gonna spring with life once again! I'm looking forward to that, a lot (even as a mod)! |
Posted by: Tessou Jul 31 2012, 11:48 AM
I'm struggling to comprehend what that means. Is the moderating team disallowed from anticipating things? |
Posted by: kyonpalm Jul 31 2012, 11:56 AM
I think he means that he's still looking forward to this, even from the perspective of a mod whose job would get a whole lot harder when tons of people flood the site. |
Posted by: Tessou Jul 31 2012, 12:01 PM |
Harder? More like intense super fun! Or, in other words, actual work. You guys haven't had shit to do for weeks. |

Awwww, you don't consider banning a member "work"? ' Oh well, I'm taking this way off topic. My bad. Sorry to those that wanted Initial D information and instead got a bunch of mod banter. |

Totally in before Moby calls you young. Anyway care to post up a picture of the paper 86 you made? If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit of an origami freak and I also do some papercraft on the side. I've been thinking about making a papercraft model of the 86 or the FD for quite some time but I can't seem to find a nice model to use. |

Posted by: Meteor Aug 2 2012, 02:21 PM |
Keep your expectations low and you might enjoy it. Also, expect a rushed ending since the show got cancelled. Haven't watched that show to the end, but the few people who have say it has its moments. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 2 2012, 02:22 PM
While I personally believe that the new series will be Fifth Stage, I have to at least try to play devil's advocate to your argument that m.o.v.e. doing the OP/ED means it must be Fifth Stage. Keep in mind that Extra Stage 2 had OP/ED themes done by m.o.v.e. as well. However I do have to thank you for posting this, because had I not gone to double-check my memory I wouldn't have known that Extra Stage 2 got released as part of a complete DVD collection here in the US. Time for N1 to go buy some boxsets. |
Posted by: Smiley_DC2 Aug 2 2012, 02:49 PM
yes good point, will in any event it should be a new stage... so whether it be a 24-ep series, or a movie or (god forbid) another OVA it's definitely better than nothing hope you've been well Don |

I'm so glad to see this forum in Korea. Wow, fantastic. I imagined that if Kanagawa battles are come out in animation, it'll be great. And now, I have a little question about the story of new Initial D Animation. |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Aug 3 2012, 12:18 PM |
Would it be a good idea to try to see if we can try to drum up a little interest in getting the series licensed here? I definitely bought all the collections when Funi rescued and licensed 3rd/4th Stage and I got one of my friends to watch it on Netflix (if streaming can actually count) |

Did everyone miss this post? He's correct, new series starts in November according to the new Magazine scan. My source says it's on Sky Perfect TV PPV though. [maybe different region] Thanks Nomake Wan Also correctly guessed m.o.v.e will be doing the theme song[s] |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 5 2012, 03:53 PM
What source do you have? Because my source--the magazine scan itself featured http://i.imgur.com/fECo5.jpg--says clearly Animax PPV. (アニマックスPPV) You're quite welcome, though. The confusion is likely because there are now mutliple threads on this topic. This one and the official announcement in the Announcements Forum https://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=44540. |

Think they will screw up the dub to English? |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 5 2012, 09:06 PM
They? Who is this 'they' you're referring to? /acecombatzero |
Posted by: Meteor Aug 5 2012, 09:25 PM |
I guess by "they" you mean "Tokyopop", who lost the rights to Initial D ages ago. Or maybe you meant something else. . . Well, if Animax-Asia (not the same thing as Animax) ends up getting the rights to air Fifth Stage, then I guess it's likely to get a bad English dub or a bad Tagalog dub or maybe both. I remember their First Stage dub being pretty bad and their Second Stage dub being so-so. They've aired decent-dubs at times though, so maybe Initial D would get lucky this time. Funimation could also end up getting it, but I don't think their dubbing counts as bad. (Not that I've watched their dub. . . . Well, except for a dubbed clip they posted up and a dubbed clip of the 86 VS Impreza race. Liked the former, didn't like the latter. That's all I'll get to see of the dub at this point, but it's clearly miles ahead of the TP dub anyway) Well, to give a short answer to your question: American release: Extremely likely to not have a screwed up dub. Singaporean/any-other-place-that-gets-Animax-Asia broadcast: 50/50 chance |
Posted by: Lebon14 Aug 5 2012, 10:29 PM |
Totally excited for this. Totally excited to know if Eurobeat will back in the soundtrack! |

Hehe, my source is my friend walking into 7-11 and picking up the Magazine LOL Maybe it's a region thing, maybe in his haste to report back he mixed it up, who knows lost in translation maybe Awesome we got the date now, did it come from a site? I think the ad mentioned a site. Thanks for the url and info Perry |

Bad ass post Perry! This sheds a lot of light on the upcoming news. hopefully well get updates on all the nitty gritty details. Maybe some screen shots too if we're lucky. Ah I'm so excited I'm throwing up rainbows again! |

yo!! good to see you around these parts again bro!!! |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 6 2012, 04:09 AM |
Wait... so they're releasing a DVD before the series airs? |
Posted by: Banken Aug 6 2012, 04:55 AM |
No, they're playing it PPV before the DVDs are released. Sky Perfect is the cable or satellite service, Animax PPV is the channel. |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 6 2012, 05:00 AM
That's very strange. Why are they saying that the DVD is 前 (before, ahead of) the exclusive broadcast, then? Am I reading things incorrectly? (Not sarcasm) |
Posted by: Banken Aug 6 2012, 05:04 AM
DVDリリース前独占放送致します "We're broadcasting it exclusively before the DVD release" |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 6 2012, 05:04 AM |
Ah, I was reading things incorrectly. |

Fantastic news |

Oh lord. I think he's been gone so long, he doesn't even know Tokyopop went bankrupt, let alone that Funimation acquired the rights to the series ages ago. At any rate, I am so excited about this news, it's just barely starting to sink in! Best news of the year! |
Posted by: Patricko Aug 6 2012, 06:49 AM |
Oh God, Finally! I was waiting about 6 years for this day I wasn't sure if it was 5th Stage, when they said "New Initial D Project", but today everything is clarified Now I'm hoping for some Blu-Ray release of whole Initial D series |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 6 2012, 07:38 AM
So pumped for this. Although.. I hope they don't pull the same crap they did with 4th Stage. Where they cut out Keisuke's first two races.
|

Fan subs go! |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Aug 6 2012, 08:43 AM |
Great news. I'm going to wait for this to be licensed here, hopefully it does. As much as I don't like the way the manga goes after 4th Stage's events seeing more of the anime would be nice. And I liked Funi's dub for the record. Someone also relayed the new anime news to Joel McDonald (Takumi's VA) on Twitter. |
Posted by: Perry Aug 6 2012, 08:52 AM
Thanks for the correction, Banken! I've fixed the translation. |
Posted by: Slade Aug 6 2012, 09:47 AM |
Awesome I do hope Funi get its down the road . |

Hello! This is going to be my 1st post here. Wonderful news after 6 years, I thought the games where continuation of the anime. By the way, I've Initial D Music Lossy Collection [ver. 4.3] folder with the complete albums, do they have the tracklist for 5th stage? I read on Crunchyroll www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/07/30/new-initial-d-anime-series-announced that they're going to replace Eurobeats songs for Hip-Hop songs and remove some scenes/change that can't be showed or try to make it more appeal for the USA. I hope they don't do that because that is going to kill the anime action, Japanese version is better. If this info. is true? |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 6 2012, 02:50 PM
Absolutely 100% untrue. The hip hop Americanization was a product of Tokyopop, which held the license many years ago. Here's an example of what they thought was "cool" to do to Initial D.
Thankfully, Kodansha revoked their manga rights, and Funimation picked up the expired anime rights back in 2010. Funimation has treated the series very well and never adds anything to the series without reason (missing BGM, for instance). They re-released the series, without any unnecessary alterations, in 2010 and 2011. The formula of Initial D is not going to be broken. Avex, which is the distributor of Initial D, also handles the Super Eurobeat label in Japan, so they're making nothing but profit on Eurobeat soundtracks for the show (no money wasted licensing music). |
Posted by: Smiley_DC2 Aug 6 2012, 07:23 PM |
oh man those "Tricked Out" versions on the Tokyopop dvds are the absolute worst!! |

Now with 5th stage confirmed I'm hoping that some fan-sub translate the episodes on the future.. Barely can understand Japanese.. just a few words |
Posted by: PsychoKilla666 Aug 7 2012, 02:21 PM
Ah, that makes sense, I figured it was something like that. Thanks @SkyDuDe Fansubs of Fifth Stage are pretty much Guaranteed |

My gosh. I have not been on this site since 2009. 6 years is a long time ago...I'm bouncing near 30. This is great news. Very excited. Thought I would say hello to all after a long, long time. Work is a killer. Will pop in once in a while! |
Posted by: mujjuman Aug 7 2012, 04:09 PM |
YES!!!! finally!! i didnt think they'd ever do this lol! |
Posted by: Takumi Trueno Aug 7 2012, 06:03 PM |
So who is going to fansub it? Do we need to recruit? |
Posted by: wusta515 Aug 7 2012, 06:43 PM
Seriously,,,about damn time! I gave up waitin and finally started the manga. Then I finished the manga and now waitin for more. So at least we got a time frame of how long the wait will b. I prefer fansubs for authenticity. English speakers sound cheesy! Anyways...awesome! |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 7 2012, 06:49 PM
I'd say N1 would be our guy, but I have no idea what his schedule is like, or if he's even doing subs anymore. That said, there are other groups out there that sub Initial D, but the quality varies. As for wusta515: Have you watched the FUNimation dub, or are you just spouting off on the old Tokyopop version? FUNimation did a pretty damn good job with the series when they rescued it. |

ZOMG! Yes! I cannot friggen wait now! Also, thanks for the mass eMail! You have made my year! |
Posted by: Perry Aug 7 2012, 08:40 PM |
Welcome back guys! I am glad the Email has reached you guys and that you decided to come back to take a look! We are all excited here with the news. Now we have something to look forward to in a three month timeframe. There will be official discussion thread dedicated to each two episodes just like how Fourth Stage was. The only thing we don't know is how many episodes are in Fifth Stage. No one can seem to answer that at the moment. I am thinking it will be 24 episodes again though, but that's just my guess, it is as good as anyone else's at this point. |
Posted by: Oak Aug 7 2012, 10:17 PM |
I'm so excited for the new music it'll bring, especially after watching the 4th Stage. Each stage is animated distinctly with a different style as well-- I wonder what stage 5 will look like!! |
Posted by: Team Evolution Aug 7 2012, 11:07 PM |
Waited forever for the 5th Stage hope it will be awesome like the 4th Thanks also for the Mass Email, you made my DAY !! |
Posted by: Gold_Ultima Aug 7 2012, 11:10 PM
This. I'm really curious to see what new style of animation is used, if any. Since I'm anticipating that Stage 5 will be the final stage, I'm hoping that the series goes out with with a bang and an amazing art style. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 8 2012, 01:19 AM
Translation is simple enough. Timing and typesetting are different things altogether. Those are why I stopped doing fansubs, really. I'm likely going to do a v2 release of Battle Stage to fix some errors and update it for the 21st century (seriously, hardsubbed XviD? How n00b was I!?). Aside from that, someone would have to volunteer to time and typeset were I to tackle translating. I'd say wait and see. Shinsen or hell, Live-Evil might pick it up. It'll be popular enough that I honestly don't think finding fansubs will be any issue whatsoever. |

I'm going to post this in both Fifth Stage threads just to be sure it gets complete visibility. I heard from some friends that there was a rumor going around about Fifth Stage being only six episodes long. Asking a little deeper, I found that this rumor appears to have stemmed from a chart depicting Fall 2012's Anime selections. Let me correct this misinformation before it spreads too far. Fifth Stage does not have an announced episode length as of yet. It is a TV series, and it may be 24-26 episodes similar to First/Fourth Stage. However there is no information indicating its length. The error is a result of failing to correctly read the Japanese on Animax's official site. On the site, it informs the reader of the two-episodes-per-month schedule, giving examples for November, December and January. It then ends with an 'etc', indicating that the pattern will continue. Apparently some people just glanced it over and thought "Well it only lists up to episode 6 so it must be only 6 episodes!" Incorrect. Rest assured, Fifth Stage will be plenty long. |
Posted by: Smiley_DC2 Aug 8 2012, 02:28 AM |
hope so, and just as long as they plan for it in advance. I recall 4th stage originally going to be 14 episodes with all of keisuke's early races cut out like everyone else, looking forward to all the eurobeats to be featured as well as the new opening/ending themes by m.o.v.e. |
Posted by: Kairi Aug 8 2012, 03:19 AM |
Long time reader and scarce poster, can't wait for November. I'm wondering if they are going to pick up exactly where 4th stage ended?, or are going to time skip a little forward?. |
Posted by: rdt320 Aug 8 2012, 03:27 AM |
I've been hoping and waiting for this day... Time to re watch the first 4 seasons to get back into it waking up to the mass email made my day. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 8 2012, 04:13 AM
I think this is big enough for one of the big fansubbing groups to pick up on. Perhaps Horrible or Commie will. If none of the bigger groups take it, either a smaller one will, or if for some reason no one does, a local IDW team could do something. If Don is comfortable with translating but not with timing and typesetting, then we could have him do the translations and Amaranthea do the timing and typesetting, since he's doing that work already for his sub group. |
Posted by: Sweepy Aug 8 2012, 05:38 AM |
How long do you guys think it will be until the episodes hit the internet after it rolls onto TV? |

(Nah, it really was just a coincidence) Really looking forward to November! Initial D has quite a bit of albums to source songs from now, but hopefully SEB (221 and on) now have a reason to come out! |

Long time since I've last posted around here. Great to hear that there finally will come a Fifth Stage. 6 Years is a pretty damn long time. If only the manga will get picked up again in English somewhere soon, or maybe the French have to translate faster so I can continue in French. But that's another thing to worry about. For now I'm glad there'll be a new Intial D anime series. |

It's nice seeing a lot of the members coming back up. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 8 2012, 12:27 PM
Note that HorribleSubs and Commie are not sub groups. HorribleSubs are a rip group who rip content from CrunchyRoll verbatim. Commie is a rip group who takes the CrunchyRoll rip and applies fancy typesetting (and lately tends to re-encode to 10bit for no real reason). So whether those two groups release it will depend on whether the episodes hit Crunchy-- --Oh, that's right, it's airing on Animax PPV. Well, there goes that theory. Anyway, I'll talk to Ama and see what happens. I'd be totally chill with handling it... assuming no one picks it up within a week of broadcast. I'm still putting my chips in with groups jumping out of the woodwork to sub it. And oh shit it's Demon_Lord! Sup, Shanaman! Look at all these old members coming back!! |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 8 2012, 01:25 PM
They have not yet mentioned anything regarding Fifth Stage. As sales of the US DVDs were apparently below expectations, they might not pick it up. I'll call them and see what their take on it is. |

If 5th Stage is a Planned Final Season? I hope they show out ALL the manga chapters into an anime! Down to the Ultimatum Final Race in Kanagawa or Tokyo. Side Story: Oh man, Natsuki vs. Mika.......YIKES! If there's at least a thin string of hope of Improvements of Speedstars. Personal Taste Aside: YES! I want to see TOYOTA SUPRA RZ in action! Driven by Uphill man Hideo Minegawa. |

Hello Idw I am A total newbie I Really just got heavy into the world of anime in the last year when I got netflix. Initial D would usually be one on the top anime's that Netflix would suggest I watch based on my other preferences but I originally brushed it off because I have never heard of it..when I eventually gave it a shot I was hooked within a few weeks I had watched every stage including the battle stage and extra's..Then once it was over I felt a huge void so I started searching online and it even got me watching all different kinds of anime and I have been checking this site for new for the past 7 to 8 months almost daily..I can only imagine ho you guys feel who have been invested in this since the beginning and having to wait those excruciating years. No other anime have I ever been connected with as much as this not even Inuyasha which introduced me to the world of anime. the only anime which even come close to the awesomeness of ID to me is Black Lagoon which I Learned about on this site I know this is long for my first post but i wanted to give a lil background and say thank you to all u guys here that love ID..all that said Im really excited for Nevember... |
Posted by: ride4life32 Aug 8 2012, 07:32 PM |
Best news I have heard in a while! Cant wait for this. I just wonder how long it will take until subs come out. |
Posted by: Spaz Aug 8 2012, 08:38 PM |
I hope somebody gets into subbing this like Dattebayo did with Naruto, where they were efficient enough that it would air at 7pm in Japan, and it would be up for d/l on their site in time to watch it at 7pm here in the states on the same date. I mean, that's a bit over the top, but something within 48 hours would be awesome if someone would be willing to step up. No doubt there'll be DVR rips available within minutes of the broadcasts ending. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 8 2012, 08:50 PM
If someone did this like Dattebayo apparently did with Naruto, this would be just the same except they'd be doing a series that is actually good. Still, that is a very impressive time frame. I doubt whoever subs Fifth Stage will be so quick, but who knows - since we don't know who will be doing it, anything could happen. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 8 2012, 09:40 PM
While normally I wouldn't bother indulging comments like this--which I put in the same category as people asking if Japanese-region-only games have English settings--since a mod joined in I'll just answer it anyway. Feel honored! The first episode will be subbed within 14 days. Each subsequent episode pair will be subbed within 24 hours of its release. "But N1!" you start to ask, giving me a look of disbelief, "How can you possibly be so sure!?" Because I'm Rick James, bitch. No, but seriously, it's because if no other group subs Fifth Stage within 7 days, then I'll do it myself. Either some other group picks it up and subs it quickly, or I pick it up and sub it quickly. Either way we'll have reliable subs just like we did with Fourth Stage. Seriously guys, this doesn't air until November. Asking when it'll get licensed or when there'll be fansubs is hilariously unnecessary. Kick back, pop a cold one and chill. |
Posted by: Wanderer Aug 8 2012, 10:38 PM |
Hey hey hey. I can't drink. I think I'll just roll one up and chill. |
Posted by: Banken Aug 8 2012, 11:30 PM |
Subs? Where we're going, we don't need subs. ...well, maybe you do. I'll be more than glad to TL check for you...heheh If it wasn't for the PPV broadcast being before DVD release, and DVD release being before rental DVD release, I would have totally watched the show legitimately... but...yeah.... Hmm, I wonder if I even have access to Animax PPV... |
Posted by: Tee:k Aug 8 2012, 11:48 PM |
Ah GOSH! 6 years i've waited! 6 years! This is great news! oh my gosh, i can't even think straight... But i have a lot of questions! As i'm norwegian, i have the English dubbed versions, and i love the dubbed voices. Do anyone know if the same voices will be applied to this new series? How many Episodes will it be? I HOPE MANY! If it took 6 years to complete like 12 episodes or something, i will get totally emo. i haven't red the manga, so i have no clue about the story after Stage 4. This is SO exciting! FUCK YEAH! |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 8 2012, 11:51 PM
There is no talk of the series being licensed as of yet. It hasn't even started airing in Japan, so you'll be waiting a while before there's any announcement of licensing. In case it's confusing why I'm talking about licensing, it's because there won't be an English dub unless it gets licensed. As for the episode count, look at the top of this forum right next to the huge Fifth Stage picture. It'll answer those questions. |

Thank you so much! ^^ Well, all of the other stages has been licensed? so i guess it's the same for this 5'th stage. Tho, i have no problem seeing it in Japanese as long as it is correctly subbed. But some of the guys here are "hinting" towards the case that this might be the last stage? ever? is this true? In that case, i'm doing suicide after i've seen the 5th stage! Dat will bo so sad |

Some images of Fifth Stage are starting to surface. So apparently this will be how Fifth Stage's style looks like. It looks much more realistic than Fourth Stage!! |

I dunno. Maybe it's just me, but that looks like the exact same cel shaded model from Fourth Stage, not that there's anything wrong with that. |

I believe it looks slightly more detailed, but that's just me. It could be a psychological thing. I wonder if someone can dig up a HD copy of Fourth Stage in RAWs and compare to these shots. |

It's probably the same model but with a better render. Anyone notice how there doesn't seem to be any detail on the back side of the wheels?... I could be wrong though. You can see that the tires are Potenza RE-11s in the picture though, based on the tread. LOL. Although I think they used the same tread design in Fourth Stage... |

Just came on (after YEARS!) to say that I got the email that the Fifth Stage was announced (ON MY BDAY!) WOHOO!! I honestly cannot wait! |
Posted by: Saxifrage Aug 9 2012, 05:41 AM
I think so too.And the fog lights' colour seem to be more yellowish.I think the taillights do look more realistic. |

Wahoo! 5th Stage! Finally! |
Posted by: THE_HONDA_CG2 Aug 9 2012, 05:53 AM |
OK yeah. Just release pictures of Takumi's 86 and not Keisuke's FD or Ryosuke's FC whatever. I don't care. Honestly though, its great setting these pictures come out months before the anime its set to air. I'm getting pretty excited for this. Not gonna lie. Its awesome seeing all these old and new names come to the forums. This place is now kicking with activity! I for one am glad. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

Strange. I was rewatching Initial D and catching up with the manga a couple months ago, and actually listened to Eurobeat just a week ago, having not touched all of them for a long long time. Never thought that the 5th stage announcement was just around the corner. Great day for all the fans! |
Posted by: mike962 Aug 9 2012, 06:43 AM |
persoanly I think Stage 5 will end with Ryouske VS Rin Hojo battle and the rest , Keysuke VS NSX, and Takumi VS Shinn and what may come after will be a OVA like Stage 3 so lelt's Recap what will get The Fake Project D impostors and MIKA - Team 246 Downhill : Mazda MX 5 (Eunos Roadster) Uphill : Lancer EVO 7 I think this battles might be Battle Stage 3 only , specialy the Evo one - Racing Team Katagiri Downhill : Kai Kogashiva in his Toyota MRS Uphill : Toyota Supra I think the Supra race might also be just Battle Stage 3 material - Team Spiral Downhill : Nissan Silvia S15 Uphill : Z33 , the famos FOG race God Death VS Ryouske - Team Sidewinder Downhill : Shiin in AE86 Coupe Uphill : Go Hojo in NSX |
Posted by: ZeetherKID77 Aug 9 2012, 07:09 AM |
I agree with Nomake. There's no use in speculating on a license now, or heck, even while it's started because it's a 2 episode per month thing. In the meantime, there's a new Densha De D game coming out |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 9 2012, 07:18 AM
I see a slight improvement too, but it is really subtle. Had you lined up two images from Fourth Stage and this set, I definitely wouldn't be able to tell the difference at first glance. I think the (ever so slight) improvement is in the lighting and shading.
Transparent version, for your posting pleasure...
That's a good point - we may have some races omitted like in Fourth Stage to save space for the rest of the story. If that's the case, I'm probably fine with it, as long as they show them in Battle Stage 3. |
Posted by: RedsunsF1 Aug 9 2012, 07:19 AM |
Anyone know what they will be doing with voices? New character voices? |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 9 2012, 07:22 AM
As far as I know, there has been no information about VAs released, but I would assume they'll stay the same. It would be pretty crazy if they changed them, so I very highly doubt any of them will change. |

Here are the ones I know (and not know) so far: Kobayakawa (Evo VII) voiced by Hamada Kenji Omiya Satoshi (Roadster RS) voiced by ??? Minagawa Hideo (Supra RZ) voiced by Konishi Katsuyuki Ikeda Ryuji (Nissan Fairlady Z33) voiced by Nakai Kazuya Okuyama Hiroya (Silvia S15 Spec R) Voiced by Sakaguchi Shuhei Hojo Go (Honda NSX) voiced by ??? Hojo Rin (BNR32 Shinigami) voiced by Nakamura Yuichi Kubo Eiji (Sidewinder mechanic) voiced by ??? Inui Shinji (86 Coupe) voiced by ??? |

How do you know this? Was there an announcement? |
Posted by: Randy Aug 9 2012, 07:58 AM |
I know it from D6AA. I know some voice actors, but some weren't so sure...so I just put ??? as I don't wanna act too smart. xD |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 9 2012, 08:03 AM
Oh, I forgot about Arcade Stage! Good point - those actors are almost certainly going to be doing Fifth Stage. |

wow.... THANKS A BUNCH FOR THE MASS EMAIL! i wouldn't of known otherwise, literally going crazy, i'm 18 now, been watching initial D ever since it came out. i've always been checking for initial D 5th stage, i think about 3/4 years, i gave up and just gave a very sad face but omg, SO GLAD! and N1, can i just say thanks for helping out to sub this! (if the other sub groups are not going to) as then i know there's a guarantee for the sub version after 14 days of the pair of episodes being released . novembers the month of my bday too! haha |
Posted by: Tuskano Aug 9 2012, 11:09 AM |
Whooo!!!! Just saw the email. I am excited... now if I can only get my younger brother to watch Stage 1 lol |

Verry happy with the mass email. Tnx. I still play the music while driving to work, trying to look cool as Takumi Praying for fansubs already!!! Picking Initial D cars in Gran turismo. Admiring my Initial D model cars....... Yes I am ready! |

Its just a shame that the MR-S doesn't have a 2ZZ, it would be great to hear it scream in the anime! |
Posted by: TakumiFuji01 Aug 9 2012, 02:28 PM
They'll probably will use it since Keiichi is the Editorial Supervisor for the series & most of the car sounds come from Hot Version. Spirit's MR-S is what I would prefer to use for sound recording if they had the 2ZZ in Kai's MR-S |
Posted by: RedsunsF1 Aug 9 2012, 02:51 PM |
Some one told that the 2 episodes that are coming out 11.9.2012 will only be shown on ppv in Japan? Is this true or will be able to see the episodes as well? |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 9 2012, 03:16 PM |
It is airing on Animax PPV in Japan. As far as I can tell from their website, they are Japan-exclusive. Never fear. This is exactly how Fourth Stage aired as well, and everybody outside of Japan managed to get the episodes soon after they aired. So no, you won't be getting it at the same time as it airs. You will have to wait a little while, but it will pay off. |
Posted by: Blues Aug 9 2012, 04:17 PM |
I wonder if the same group that subbed fourth stage will do it again. I thing their name was LE- something. Anyway, I'm very interested to see how the art style on the characters have changed compared to the last stage and whether Ryosuke will have brown hair this time around since I noticed they changed his hair color each stage. |
Posted by: Gold_Ultima Aug 9 2012, 04:42 PM
They were called Live-Evil. Also, yeah. His hair was purple or something last stage. =P |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 9 2012, 04:44 PM
If I'm not mistaken, some people deduced that to be a plausible occurrence. Something about how the light hits people's hair in certain conditions... |
Posted by: Blues Aug 9 2012, 05:04 PM |
I also can't wait to hear the Eurobeat tracks used this time around, since fourth stage had an impressive track list, in my opinion. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 9 2012, 05:23 PM
Live-Evil is very much still alive. Their last release was June of this year (albeit for non-Initial-D-related series of course). Since they're not dead I can't imagine they won't jump at the opportunity to sub it first. All of you waiting for subs or licensing, take a breath. Deep breath. Let it out slowly. Find your favorite beverage and sip it. Enjoy the taste. 'Cause the thing is, we won't get episodes until November. You can start complaining about subs after November 16th. |
Posted by: Smiley_DC2 Aug 9 2012, 05:54 PM |
i just want to see some fresh racing scenes, such a tease seeing a microsecond of post-4th stage battles in the opening cinematics to Arcade Stage 5+ meanwhile, like everyone else i hope they get around to doing a new console version of Arcade Stage |
Posted by: Blues Aug 9 2012, 06:01 PM
If they do, I'm hoping it's soon. Extreme stage long since worn out its welcome on my PS3 and since IDAS 5-7 haven't made it to New England, I NEED something new. |
Posted by: xmark Aug 9 2012, 07:31 PM |
I hope they will not skip some scenes from the manga... There are so many races after the anime ends. In my opinion, Ryosuke's past will be the high light of this anime. |
Posted by: Solid Snake Aug 9 2012, 07:56 PM
I remember waiting those 2 weeks for the subs after the episodes aired. I dreaded the first 2 weeks of every month. The anticipation, the "where are the subs?" posts and then finally the release of the subs. Those were the days. |
Posted by: E30Six Aug 9 2012, 08:22 PM
You got a lot nicer, haha. Anyway, would it be worth a shot to make / create a poll and see how many people would be interested in buying subbed and dubbed 5th stage DVD's? I don't think they're trying to get rich off of the PPV, but I think they're trying to get all the die hard fans to spend that $10.xx every month or two and really milk it, then go to the DVDs, where die hard fans + others will buy it, and milk that. With that being said, I know dubbing / licensing won't happen for a while, but hey, some word on what Funimation thinks of this would be nice. I've trolled this forums for years to finally come to this >.> P.S. The "5th stage surface'd pics" show's more detail on the tail lights, fender flare / roll and jdm front bumper curve. |

OB Planning doesn't care what you or anyone one of us non-Japanese thinks about their business practices. Similarly, FUNimation won't be doing anything until all the episodes have aired in Japan at least. A poll would be useless. You won't be getting any subbed or dubbed DVDs until it's licensed. It won't get released in the US until it has completed airing in Japan. That's just how it is. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |

I already know what everyone says anyways, so I'm cool to just watch the raws, then wait for the fansubs. I'd love to buy some real dvds from Funimation down the line though because I want to support the franchise, since it has brought me so much joy. In fact I just bought the Funimation DVDs for Stages 1-4 yesterday out of random guilt for not having payed, especially when Funimation seems to have put way more effort into their conversions than Tokyopop. |

I wonder how much TakumixMika will be featured in the anime? Even though there wasn't much in the first place, it would be cool if they left it all in. Also, Ryosuke vs Rin Hojo will be awesome! |
Posted by: keg11 Aug 10 2012, 11:22 PM |
Personally, my view on what's (possibly) going into Fifth Stage is similar to what Mike962 said (https://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=44541&st=200#): Everything except FD vs. EvoVII & FD vs. Supra (maybe). (On the other hand, I have doubts they can fit the whole content I stated within 24-26 episodes. Maybe another 2-3 would do). |
Posted by: reiz Aug 11 2012, 01:08 AM |
Hell yeah! Been waiting forever! |
Posted by: Splitter Aug 11 2012, 04:11 AM
Finally after all these long years Maybe Fifth Stage's announcement will spawn a (bunch of) new Initial D related eurobeat songs.
|
Posted by: Blues Aug 11 2012, 04:24 AM
I believe they'll have no problem showing all the races. With 26 episodes It can be done. Besides, it's possible Ryosuke v Rin will be shortened much Takumi v. Joshima was. |
Posted by: Renmazuo Aug 11 2012, 05:45 AM |
The only race that seems to be worth seeing is Ryosuke vs. Rin. All the others just don't seem to have the heart anymore...... But, I hope it comes back with some new Super Eurobeat! Any predictions on what songs can be used in which races? |
Posted by: Randy Aug 11 2012, 07:47 AM |
for song predictions...I am very sure they'll bring back Hojo Rin's beautiful theme song: FOREVER SAD - HELY. That song fits the Shinigami the best. |

Awwww~~~~only two episode every month ! |
Posted by: Blues Aug 11 2012, 12:51 PM |
Awww? Two episode per month is a good thing, considering fourth stage aired two episode every other month. This is an improvement. |

& BACK ON THE ROCKS - MEGA NRG MAN. They've used it for all other GT-R races so it's quite likely they'll do the same here. Also, I would assume they would use songs from the upcoming Arcade Stage 7AAX. Gotta love DISCONNECTED - HOTBLADE |
Posted by: Renmazuo Aug 11 2012, 07:13 PM |
Actually, for the Shingami race, I thought "I'm Gonna Carry On" by Nuage is pretty good too. |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 11 2012, 07:14 PM
I always thought Sophie's cover of Rapture by Blondie would be perfect for that race.

Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 12 2012, 07:55 AM
The music doesn't always have to be fast to fit a race scene. |
Posted by: Renmazuo Aug 12 2012, 11:20 AM
That's true, especially this one, since it's a more emotional race. |

What do you mean? If by "new cars" you mean the opponents' cars, you need look no further than the manga for that information. |

Hi every body .. how all of you very excited with a 5th stage tv series. No suprise there. It just translated from Initial D manga. Fujiwara still using AE86 but upgraded with roll cage and Keisuke still using FD. Don't know where want to read ? just click this link http://mangafox.me/manga/initial_d/ |

Or the Initial D arcade games. |

It would be awesome to see in the first scene, *(Split Screen) takumi training on akina in his 86 chasing an imaginary Impreza and Keisuke training on his specific timed lap on akagi. With the background music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pb2bh9EcU4 |

Posted by: Renmazuo Aug 12 2012, 09:05 PM
Maybe not the remix version. But I think this would be a good song to include in the series. I'd also like to see them include "Speed of Light" by The Snake. |

certainly when keisuke is training at akagi, the image he chase is Rosuke FC or some GTR. |
Posted by: Nomake Wan Aug 13 2012, 01:38 AM
No way it would be a GT-R. He beat Hoshino fair and square, so I don't think he's really afraid of a GT-R or really has a complex about a GT-R. His brother's FC, though...? Yeah, I could see that. |
Posted by: shewsbury Aug 13 2012, 03:56 AM |
From the mangga, it seems we could expect the following though this is not confirmed yet, we still need to wait for the anime; 1) Apart from the usual Panda 86 and Yellow FD3S, these cars will appear in the series; MX-5, Sylvia S15, Fairlady 350Z, Supra, MR-S, Mitsu Lan Evo (not sure which version), GT-R34 and Coupe AE86. There is a Honda NSX also but not sure if this car will be involved. It seems this time we can see many cars using ""GT Wing"? 2) The White Comet of Akagi, the genius strategist and team leader of Project D, Ryosuke Takahashi, will have 1 final "dead match" with his old rival. This will be the best race ever in the series 3) Takumi Fujiwara will get a new girl friend? 4) The Panda 86 will get a significant upgrade on suspension and body works for safety reason. 5) This seems to be the final stage of Project D and Initial D :-( |
Posted by: touge_rider Aug 13 2012, 05:29 AM
maybe after Project D have completed the main goal, or maybe never. Who knows until it is actually released. I doubt it because it is chronologically out of place (after all, it is technically still '01/'02 then) |
Posted by: Tessou Aug 13 2012, 05:43 AM |
If they want to keep it in a reasonable timeline (they're time-correct if it's 2001-2002), a GT-86 is outlandish. The AE86 is the iconic car of Initial D. It would be wrong to get rid of it. |
Posted by: fuji_tak Aug 13 2012, 09:26 AM
Takumi drving the FT86, it was a promotional Shigeno X Toyota chief enginer who talked in a car magazine about the new Toyota cars I don't think that Takumi will drive in official arce other car than his panda trueno. AE86is initial d masterpiece |
Posted by: xavixote Aug 13 2012, 11:48 AM |
Initial D timeline can't be 2001-2002 because in one race there is a Nissan 350z which is from 2003 |
Posted by: Spaz Aug 13 2012, 11:51 AM |
The Evo mentioned would be a gen VII. |
Posted by: keg11 Aug 13 2012, 02:53 PM
Well, it's hard to distinguish distinguish a plausible timeline for the series full stop. I guess it's because how long Shigeno takes to write the chapters, so he need to keep up the times. |
Posted by: hero1991 Aug 13 2012, 10:34 PM |
When i first heard that 5th stage was finally coming out i was so excited.I knew that 5th stage would finally happen one day. I never gave up hope. |
Posted by: Banken Aug 14 2012, 02:01 AM |
Initial D has a sliding timeline that is always more or less in the same time we are in. Proof? In volume 45 some characters mentioned how sports cars are a dying breed, and how good ones are becoming rarer and more expensive. Especially Hachirokus. Initial D began right in the middle of the sports car boom of the 90s, when Hachirokus in perfect condition were a dime a dozen (the newest ones were less than 10 years old at the time), gasoline was cheaper, and there were street racers everywhere. So completely different than how it is now. It's also irrelevant what year the story takes place in... Shigeno will bring in whatever cars he feels like drawing. I would bet the reason there are no racers with foreign cars in the story is because he just doesn't feel like drawing them. |
Posted by: keg11 Aug 14 2012, 04:16 AM
Actually, he done it at least once. At the end of the Tokyopop release of vol. 33(?), there was a mini-story which involved Fumihiro getting a stomach ache at Akagi. As Ryosuke was flying down Akagi to get Fumihiro treated (he took it way more seriously than normel, guess it comes when you're studying to be a doctor), they blow pass a Porsche 911. However, that's the only time. |

Then there's Natsuki's trick that drove the Mercedes as well. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] |
Posted by: Banken Aug 14 2012, 04:47 AM
I know, but that whole scene only seemed to imply that Japanese cars are superior to Porsches... Like I said, there are no main characters with foreign cars. The excuse they give in the manga is that either they're too expensive or the character has money but isn't interested. |
Posted by: jeremigoku Aug 14 2012, 04:30 PM
I think this song would be a good addition to the series... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YGme2QKYa0 |
Posted by: fuji_tak Aug 14 2012, 04:56 PM
they are just addicted to their national cars constructors shigeno views is wrong Porsche is a car tat a lot japanese track/toge specialist like. In reality i don't think that FC could stand against porsche carrera in public road. |

Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 15 2012, 05:30 PM
I think they should start the season with a song everyone knows, but yet, it can't be a song they used already.
I think this song would be perfect for the start of the first race. The beginning of the song is perfect for it, then both cars can take off once the songs gets to about 0:27 |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 15 2012, 05:46 PM
But that has been used already, in Arcade Stage. |
Posted by: Perry Aug 15 2012, 05:49 PM
It would be nice if they do that, but that's not how they make money. M.O.V.E has already announced their "Raise Up" will be the OP of Fifth Stage, we just don't know what the ED theme is at the moment. We'll find out soon enough. |
Posted by: Phantom_R32 Aug 15 2012, 05:55 PM
Well, I meant for the anime. That's why I said a song that everyone knows. Because everyone remembers it from Ver.3, but it hasn't been used in the TV series yet.
I just meant for the first race, not the actual opening. I didn't word my post that well. |

I haven't been on here all that much and it's been a while since I was. But so thrilled by this news. I'm also hoping this helps bring renewed interest in the franchise and we will get the rest of the manga released here in the U.S . I would also like to see some different cars added in the mix. Such as the 4th generation Mitsubishi Eclipse , Subaru BRZ, and many others. |

Been so long, I don't even remember subscribing to an emailing system, lol. Nice considering that I've never gotten anything from you guys before, so I've never unsubscribbed because it got annoying/spammy, thank god, this was important! I was remembering a week, but maybe it was two, but they were pretty regular with their releases in relation to their TV Japan air date, I would expect the same. Hopefully the Rx8 gets some action in 5th stage, it is in the arcade game |
Posted by: kyonpalm Aug 16 2012, 04:58 PM
I keep seeing comments like these. What makes anyone think that Fifth Stage will feature any cars that weren't in the manga? This is an anime adaptation of the manga. If it wasn't in the manga, it's not going to be in the anime. What's so hard to get about this? |
Posted by: Kelvin Aug 16 2012, 05:16 PM |
Thanks to Perry for the email. I seriously hope the Evo7 and Supra races are not cut out and saved for Battle Stage 3. Anyways, does the yellow Fifth stage looks like Filth stage to anyone? |

Well, at least they put the races back in with Battle Stage 2. |

I think that's exactly what is going to happen remember they do need some extra material for Battle Stage 3 and this races were probably the most unimportant and "easy" for Keisuke , you can't have that much drama with them into the anime like with the Ikeda or the NSX races for example also you all seem to forget that Battle Stage 1 had a missing race too the Keisuke VS Seiji (Emperor with Evo 4) race |

Well, that one was pretty shoddy. I don't know if it really didn't have that much going on with it in the manga but they didn't put a lot of effort into animating it. The cars, yeah, sure, they had the same quality as the rest of the First Stage remastered CG cars. But they reused cockpit/character stock from First Stage and Second Stage and I think Seiji had like...two lines? Which may have been from Second Stage anyway? Whereas at least in Battle Stage 2 the two 'missing' races were fully animated and scripted just like they would have been in-series. |
