Holy crap, the last post in this thread was a long time ago. MBA 1.54+ already came out and no one updated. I blame myself.

So, with that said, those of you who don't already have 1.54+ should head over to Fly-System and nab the patch, as it's the final official patch for the game and fixes a few minor bugs (like using Sakura's final attack against the two bonus characters).

Last official patch, because they're handing over future development to another circle. f**k yeah continued development of the game. Which brings me to what this post was supposed to have been about. Two things we'll be seeing in the next version, which apparently will be 1.60+ instead of 1.55+.



First off, a real network matchmaking system, like a real netgame! No more of that IP address BS the original had. This system is actually being developed for Elemental Battle Arena, but the code is also being shared with that new dev group so that they can implement it into MBA as well. f**k year! Hopefully this'll negate the need for Hamachi, as I personally can't stand the thing.



I can't be the only one who jizzed in my pants when I saw this image. Yes indeedy, this is the silhouette of the character that's being added to MBA in 1.60 this Christmas season. If you don't know who this is... I'm sorry, but that's sad. I can't be the only one who, back when Nanoha StS was released, went, "...but what about Fate StS?"

Well. Those cries were apparently not just my own, and did not fall on deaf ears. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! REJOICE IN DELICIOUS TWINTAIL! NANOFATE FOREVER! BANZAI! BANZAI!

Do people still play this game? Are people still looking forward to the release of Magical Battle Arena: Complete Form? Do people here even know what it is?

I realize, upon seeing the lack of updates in this thread, that those of you who rely on it for news have been left in the dust. I apologize for this. So here's the short version to catch everyone up to the present, followed by today's update.

First off, as mentioned before, Fly-System will be handing over development of Magical Battle Arena to another circle. While at the time, it wasn't mentioned what circle it was, that announcement was made last month. The Circle's name is AREA-ZERO, and their website can be reached here: AREA-ZERO.

Magical Battle Arena: Complete Form is more than just adding a single character and that netplay matchmaking system. They'll also be doing some more balancing. Which might make you go, "Wait, didn't 1.54+ finalize the character balance?" Well, yes. The trouble is, they're adding a new character (so rebalancing to make sure she doesn't hax the crap out of everyone or vice-versa), and they're also adding new combat mechanics.

Yes, new combat mechanics. The last blog post doesn't specify what they are, but the screenshots seem to show some interesting new things. We'll see what they've got planned in future blog updates. The game is planned for a December 30th release.

*Added new mechanics:
-Attack Cancel Step (Does what it says on the tin. Move-cancel without Magic Spark.)
-Counter Just Guard (If you guard at the exact moment you're hit, you stun the enemy)
-Step Knock-Away Attack (Sidestep->Charged Melee?)
-Short Boost Dash (f**k yes a boost dash that doesn't rape your magic gauge)
-Boost Guard (The shield from ultimates, except on demand.)
-Guard Break Attack (To break Boost Guard.)

This is gonna be good.

Too bad it doesn't look like you can import savegames. I was tempted to try importing my Gamedata file, except that I was kinda worried that doing so would cause the game to crash (since it's a different game and all). Anyone else wanna try?

SCREW YOU INITIAL D WORLD, I COME BEARING NEWS!! Well...it's late news! A month and a half late! But considering the thread's been sitting at the bottom of this forum since 2010, I suppose that means I'm actually pretty darn on the ball! So okay, why am I reviving this ancient thread? Oh, it's quite simple. A certain company, while they haven't stopped working on Touhou 3D action games, has decided to revive a certain franchise for all of us who had dreamt of this day...basically since 2011 when Madoka came out and we all hoped they'd update the game again.

No release date or anything like that, but with Comiket 85 coming up this December... one would have to wonder if they wouldn't want something to show off by then. I know I'm pretty pumped. There've been quite a few good magical girl shows since 2010, not to mention still plenty of untapped classics? Madoka? Pretty Sammy? Fate/kaleid Liner? One would certainly hope they aren't just throwing Touhou Sky Arena together with Magical Battle Arena and calling it a game. If they were doing that, surely they'd have more to show off seeing as both games are already complete.

So with the thought in mind that I'll be able to have Godoka face off against the Lord of Nightmares...I leave this thread in IDW's hands.

A'ight, we've finally got a bit of news about the new game! Or should I say 'games'? Yes, I believe I should. So here's what we now know about Magical Battle Arena NEXT. First off, Area-Zero will be following in the footsteps of the Touhou Sky Arena series, releasing two separate games. There's no news yet on whether the release will be simultaneous or staggered (TSA's were staggered), but the two games will be "Sky Flash Princess of Magical Girls" and "Sky Flash Princess of Gensokyou." They can either be purchased and played separately or installed together and linked into a single unified roster just like the Touhou Sky Arena games.

But wait, there's more! The first new character in the Magical Girl side of things has been announced via a 'looking for voice actresses' request on the main site! And that new character is...!



...Illya and Ruby from Fate/kaled liner Prisma☆Illya! While of course the movelist and all of that is quite a ways off, here are the lines they're asking for people to audition as a teaser of what sort of gameplay will be included. Spoiler for list!

What's that? An update? Why yes! Area-Zero is planning on having a demo version of the new game available at Comic Market 85 which, following in the tradition of the original MBA, will have two playable characters--Reimu Hakurei and Illyasviel von Einsbern. Now, they're scrambling to get a build done before then, but in the meantime they've released a video with some preliminary gameplay! Enjoy!

Personally, Illya's voice is spot-on. Interestingly enough while they auditioned for Illya and Ruby separately, the same VA is voicing both. I can't wait to hear Ruby!

So now begins the guessing game. They'll have a demo at C85... so does that mean the full version will be out at C86, or will we wait an entire year and do C87? Not that I mind... I personally plan on attending C87.

Can you believe it's been almost 8 years since the original Magical Battle Arena debuted at Comiket 73? How about that it's been almost six years since MBA:CF premiered at Comiket 77? Or that it's been a year since the Touhou version of this game came out at Comiket 87? Well we're on Comiket 88 now and after all that waiting it's finally here--the next generation of Magical Battle Arena! Spanning across two games, Magical Battle Arena NEXT comes in either Touhou or Mahou Shoujo versions...and if both are installed on your system, you can combine both into one massive battle of the ages! Area-Zero took the lessons they learned with Touhou Sky Arena and applied them to this new game quite well.

Now, the new game isn't just a rehash of the old one with a few new things tacked on. It's Area-Zero's attempt to move away completely from Fly-System's original design. As such the character roster is missing several characters from the original and even those characters who made a comeback have new designs and new voice actors/actresses. As far as Mahou Shoujo Side goes, here is the list of playable characters:
