I've received a few PMs today regarding my decision to ban crazym4n earlier this morning. My reasoning is not due to a forum guideline violation, it is retroactively correcting a series of at least 12 recorded violations. The Terms of Service grant the site owner complete control of the site, and thus powers over site access privileges. When I attempted to send the following post to a concerned member, I was given a message about being PM blocked. Annoying, but I'm not going to force an unblock (even though I can).

Instead, I'll open this up to the membership publicly. I was questioned if the TOS were a real page, or that I was "pulling them out of my ass". Here is the response I intended to send about 10 minutes ago:

QUOTE (Tessou)
Right here. You can find it sitting at the bottom of every page on the site.

Every member is required to accept the TOS when they join the forum, although most decide not to read them and have no idea that the site owner can revoke anybody's site privileges without warning or liability.

crazym4n has had a warn record since 2008 and never showed any intention of cleaning up his act.

I'm sorry that you feel that this is a violation, but the TOS explicitly states that I am perfectly clear to make decisions on my own website.

At the same time, the member in question has repeatedly violated the forum guidelines, and only escaped banishment because he abused the old 30-day cooldown period after which his warn level went down by 33%. The revised rules, which have actually been in effect since late 2011 and have yet to be reflected on the page proper, no longer have this cooldown period.

Also know that I informed Perry of this decision months ago when negotiations began for the site transfer to my ownership. Consensus was that I was completely within my right as site owner to allow and disallow site privileges as I saw fit.

That said, I will not be reversing the decision to ban crazym4n.

If anybody has questions or comments, please feel free to post them or PM them to me, and I will answer them accordingly.

Keep looking up,
///TESSOU///

I completely stand by this decision. What good are bans if they are never used? People don't take the guidelines seriously far too often.

Also, I once again motion to revive the judiciary committee.

Until I can find an efficient way to make the judiciary committee work properly without bias, it will remain inactive.

Another recruiting process, then? Though could it be over live chat?

So would anyone from the 'new administration' care to comment on this recent happening, both the initial ban and the subsequent lifting of said ban?

It doesn't look good to say one thing, do another, then change your mind. Please be more clear with your actions in the future, all of you.

I don't see any posts in the facebook group, which seems kind of odd.

The ban lift has nothing to do with Tessou, I was merely restoring some of the data. All will be explained in a few days.

How mysterious of you Perry. If this is the April Fools joke then you're a few days late on it. Either way, I'm now expecting a lengthy explanation from you.

Transparency is nice, I agree. Even if it's only a little. Mod Team wasn't aware either. ermm2.gif

This worries me even more, but I believe Perry when he says it will be explained. Therefore I shall wait patiently for that explanation.

Cheers!

The reason he's being vague is because he can only access IDW from his phone right now, and only for brief periods of time.

The full report will be posted soon. I'd blab, but this is one of those instances where I've been sworn to secrecy.

If you own the forum...how could this have been done if you didn't want it to happen? Honestly, it makes no sense shrug.gif

Because consensus between Perry and I was that it would be better to see how he handles the new warning system, in which warns are permanent. He has a history of jumping up to 66% and then disappearing for a few months so it cools back down to 0%. This is true for many other members on the site, and it's aggravating to see that the entire purpose of the warning system is meaningless to problematic members.

That said, major warns are now permanent. Minor, common noob mistakes will be treated with more lenience, but regular offenders will feel the heat.

So are you going to be putting up a new version of the forum guidelines or is the current one still valid for now?
